Monster Mavericks
Спорт
One of the greatest swell events at one of the great big wave spots Mavericks in California.
Hosted by legend Jeff Clark this film shows more than what happens in the line up.
Just getting out there was a lot more just the 50 foot waves that pounded the zone. Chasing big surf takes a lot of planning and on this day the planning wasn't enough. See the worlds best tackle what was one of the great historic days in big wave surfing.
Enjoy..

Tim. All the time and energy you have put into filming big surf just went to a new level. The most balanced, powerful, and interesting video that left me truly with a sense of being there. Not pov video but point of power (pop) film. At 75 now and having surfed for 25 years in my life, this was exceptional and very real. Thank you and the whole team involved.

Absolutely 🤙🏻 The music was so good The waves and the way The makers of this slowed down some parts Just incredible job! I’m on my 4th look at it
Such a pleasure to see Jeff Clark here. There is nobody who knows more about that break than Jeff. Lord knows when he passes, so will that wealth of collected knowledge. I hope he has documented everything he has in his head.
I know nothing about surfing but I admire the hell of these guys and love seeing their passion for this sport . Super. Cool 😎👍🙂😬
Peter Mel is just about as comfortable as you can get riding the beast. Epic is all I can say!
Sully, I'm glad you caught and survived your wave of 25 years! Go Oxi Clean and Sully! Proud of you man.
Peter Mel just rides them right. Really shows the time he's put into this wave. Although guys like Kai are ripping, Mel looks so in tune with the wave. Awesome to watch!

One of the original pioneers along with Jeff Clark and Doc Renniker. He's still got it. I think he could ride this wave blindfolded.
Sullys Wave...that shot with one of the biggest waves inevitably overtaking him was legendary.

Insane, love how the whole crew knew how bad that beating was gonna be and were instantly looking for him. 😮
I live very near these waves but haven't seen anyone else show the care and attention to the CREW that it takes to get the surfers out onto those waves. Thanks for showing more than just the brief ride at the end of all that effort.

A friend of mine from Santa Cruz was eating breakfast at a restaurant the day Peter Mel caught the largest wave( at that time) in Mavericks. There just happened to be a helicopter out there taking pictures of the sets and they caught it on video. My friend said when Oeter was driving by the cafe that he was eating at he looked like he’d just seen a ghost. My buddy was kind of concerned so he drove by the surf shop Peter’s dad owned and Peter told him what happened. He was kind of in shock , or a flow state, what have you. That ride went down in Santa Cruz history.
This was in sane terrifying and so so awesome!!!! I'm a 68 yr old lady and have lived away from Cali for almost 40 yrs but still get down there to boogie board once or twice a yr on "normal waves!!" To watch this is so amazing!!! I found myself thinking no no go the other way and they'd get pummeled! Or they'd ride the wave so far and I'd be so relieved!! Wow just wow!! I have the highest respect for these guys!! Wow awesome!!! Crazy and Soo boss!!!! Great job and great video!!!🤙🌺 Now I wanna go watch the Mavericks movie!!😂❤🏄🌊
Was really hoping for a post session Sully interview to get the first person story of that wipeout. Great video, as always, though Tim.

I would like to know why whip in on inside of one without the southerly shoulder. Kind of a deathwish! This is me being a keyboard warrior obviously but never ever being to a location before then choosing absolute record swell with a pie and coffee as nutrition seems a bit off.

Thanks Tim for coming all the way here to California to document epic Mav's! Much appreciated!
Appreciated the reality of trying to get this unique and complex footage, AND the generous gesture of Jeff Clarke coming to your aid - what a gentleman ❤
Jeff Clark has got to be in the top 5 surfers of all time
Sulley goes out there and catches a huge close out. Got to give him tons of respect for going for it.

Exhilarating video! Thank you to all who partook in creating a one-of-a-kind video of the magnitude of aquatic nature vs. man! It honored the memory of my brother, Ronn, one of Southern California's awesome surfers!
Brave. That water level angle is the only way to show/see the power of these waves. Kudos.
Mind blowing film had me at edge of my seat.
Wow, love everything about it! Great footage. Amazing video, insane waves and excellent surfers! Thank you so much for sharing.
One of your best Tim. Thanks for having the figs to deliver this epic to us mate. Youre a legend.
OH YEA!! Great to see ya Jeff and good to see Maverick's being such a thrill once again. Some really nice shots of really nice surfing. As they say Down Under, "Bloody Good Onya". Your camera men and jet ski operators all deserve a big round of applause and thanks for not letting anyone eat rocks.
You’re films are the best when it comes to big, gnarly, scary, slabby beasts of waves. Those were some of the scariest looking waves I’ve seen you document, and you’ve captured some pretty crazy sessions over the years. That ones that Sully took to the dome, and Bianca fell on were so sketchy. Cheers
I don't usually like all slow motion but this is great!
Thanks for showcasing this film for the world to see. Thanks for showing my good friend Jeff.
Good story telling, thank you. I body surf in the 70-80's at local break Redondo Beach, ca. Biggest I felt I could handle was 4 footers, fin's a must. They all closed out at my spot. These massive wave did seem to have different swells coming together forming pretty chaotic breakers.
The beauty of the water and surf, coordination of crews, filming and photography, and surfing skills all off the charts. The beauty of it all brought a few tears to my eyes at times. Outstanding.
Peter Mel still out there charging like a boss. Dude's got the Santa Cruz steeeeeeeze.
Absolutely 10 on a 10 scale video. Scary heavyweight waves😨
Some of those waves are taking on that Australian slab look. Wall of ocean. :)
Love all of it. The preparations, ups and downs, all who make this possible, the riders and the sea. Majestic❤❤❤😊😊😊
One of the first surfing videos i saw was Mavericks. cant remember who made it but i know if i saw the cover id know exactly if it was it. Such a heavy scary wave. dark ocean and super powerful. im a skater but have so much respect for the ocean and surfers…… the dedication to wake up so early and get in freezing cold water is on another level. Props to every surfer. 🏄♂️ 🏄♀️
What an insane boat ride out, thanks for chronicling the whole thing
The everyday surfer: "these guys are insane, I cant believe they have the balls to surf that" Skimboarder: "Hold me beer mate"
Stunning footage that was hard to comprehend. I loved being able to see the moments you spent with some of the surfers before, the trouble getting out there, Sullivans Glory...the amount of humongous waves..incredible.
We grew up in '60's surfing Santa Cruz to Anõ Nueve. Caught over head waves but never even dreamed Maverick's was there. Seriously cold north of Monterey Bay... Can you imagine if the Continental Shelf was absent? Mavericks would carry ~80' waves traveling ungodly speeds...

Incredible to watch! Thank you for sharing the experience. I almost felt like I was out there.
At 28:15 when Sully drops into that closeout ...and when Skudin 24:40 gets axed by the lip....it's hard to imagine the violence. 40 years ago I would not have imagined surviving those beatings. Mavs truly was a monster on this day. Extra points for the soundtrack- reminded me of Tangerine Dream from the 70's.
Excellent video …like Clark said these type waves have never been surfed before…a testament to progress.
That was UNREAL! Tim you did so well to hold that huge camera so steady in those rough conditions. Jeff had you deep inside for some of those shots! Amazing footage. Congrats all.
Wonderful video showing the true nature of a day in a big wave. Thanks for bringing this to all of us who can't experience it in person. Its a fantastic vicarious one! TY!
Watching this, and seeing how the crew is delayed for a dead battery, makes me think of Jeff Clark and the pioneers of big wave surfing (here & in Hawaii) that paddled out, by themselves. They surfed with a small crew, dedicated, and more than willing to help each other. But if you got in trouble, ala Mark Foo you were truly on your own. IDK, if I'm a purist, or jealous that I had to learn 'the hard way.' No ride out to the lineup. Nobody swooping in to get me if I wiped out. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old fart. Not to take away from what some of the guys are doing. They're charging on waves that are deadly & without the speed they'd never catch them. It just seems like some of the technology has removed the need for local knowledge, which wave to go for, etc. But that was a helluva vid Tim, you never disappoint. I've turned you on to my friends, surfers & land locked. We all love your work !!
You guys are true action heroes!!!!wow! Someone should get an academy award!!!so brave, so skilled, so crazy!!!????
We are so blessed and grateful to have Mavs in our front yard view here in HMB. What an EPIC set of days we were gifted for the “Christmas break”. 🎄🌊 The storytelling and footage are both exhilarating and sublime at the same time. Thank you Tim and Jeff!! 🙏🏻❤
You guys had you're thinking caps on. This is so well done and I must say besides the brilliant images, the slow motion married to the music is the best I've heard/seen in awhile. The music is perfect; from the sublime to the ridiculous in the best possible way. Excellent work, 10 outta 10 for me.
Thank-you for the excellent, up front, coverage of a local celebrity! (Mavericks). I dont surf, but I can appericate the skill and athletic abilty of the wave riders (boards and skis!). Amazing photography, in wicked conditions! Including the logistical coverage as well as footage of the jet ski chasers as well as the surfers, made for a complete story. All around excellent video!
Great video. I love watching all the going-ons to get out there 👍
This is by far the best surfing sites out there. Your continued footage of Shipsterns cyco speedbump on the drop in is so awesome.Keep chasing and filming!
As someone who's been to the Mavericks as a fan of big wave surfing, especially since its right down the coast from me, I gotta say - THIS is THE BEST big wave surfing film I think I've EVER seen. Its cinema perfected. Editing, speed, music... almost better than being there. Amazing. I certainly hope you win some kind of awards for this. Mesmerizing. 🏄♂
Tim your the man~~~~amazing captures
Sincerely appreciated the honest representation of the emotions and challenges - I’m a snowboarder and loads of recent ski films focus largely on the big lines and epic drone views. Love how you’ve captured the real life story partnered with the entertainment piece. Cheers & stay safe out there!
Thanx for this WOW session !!! 😍🤙🏻 Jeff Clark 4 ever 🌊🏄🏽♂️ top surfers in this video 👏👏👏🔥🔥💪🏻
Ok I haven’t been able to get past Lucas on the skim board. My brain is stuck 😮. No Fins ! On a wave that size ? I have a skim board. I don’t think the vast majority of the viewers can possibly understand the magnitude of this endeavour. The music lulls you into a calm place of serenity them Boom 💥. I am scared that this video could take the rest of my day. Thanks m8 🕺
Wow, just wow! The early morning prep and following near disaster really set the scene for the gnarly footage to follow. Yup, agree with others, Peter Mel stood out, and never actually shoulder-hopped😅, in the pocket baby! Thank you Tim for your calm demeanor and absolutely charming personality mate! Good on ya!❤
Oh man what’s that Murphy’s Law thing again? Holy smokes one thing after another. But it was worth it, beautiful footage. I have lived here all my life and never knew it was that big and intense out there. Amazing. Thank you.
@23:33 JoJo Roper got a gem!
This was truly amazing footage and amazingly put together. Thank you for making it available for the world to see. Would be really curious to know more about the gear you guys shoot with to survive these conditions but also compose it so beautifully.
Unbelievable footage Tim in tough conditions! Memorable day !
Just an incredible day out at Mavs. Awesome video!
Tim & Jeff: You took us for the ride of a lifetime. Thanks for the rush.
So awesome Tim. From the challenges with just getting to the lineup to awesome surf footage. Really enjoyed a few special waves on there too. Sacha's one was pretty special.
First-rate. Great vid, great music selections. Thank you!
Thank you for the exceptional opportunity to get to watch your hard work incredible thank you again.
This video is insane! It seems like Mavs breaks much differently when it’s a more westerly swell rather than from the north.
I live north of there in Sonoma County, about ten miles from the ocean so we see a lot of break but this day topped them all. We were awe struck being right next to it, up close. Nobody was surfing up here. I'm just glad I got to see it, especially this day when we got some sun. Rainbows all day. Wonderful.
Brought tears, it's so damn good. Amazing day, amazing waves, and superior film making. Thank you!
Much respect to these surfers, can't wait to see some of them this fall in Nazaré.
Yeah Tim. If something doesn’t go wrong, it’s not an adventure! Your boat troubles reminds me of why I don’t own a boat. Not worth it( 4 me). Thanks for doing another A+ job of documenting the extreme skiing going on there under extreme conditions. Watching these men & women traversing across moving landscapes of massive vertical wave faces and horizontal walls of white water, dodging, jumping and getting rolled over was Amazing! Thank you for sharing this experience.
Beautiful job. 4k footage was excellent and the music fit nicely. Wow that's all I can say never seen waves this huge and powerful. These guys are true masters.... hopefully nobody got hurt.
Shows you how quickly things can change to a life threatening situation.
That was an incredible watch, from everything that went wrong to the immense waves and surfers !!
Thank you for the video! I grew up on the Coast and it is great seeing the up close and personal! Thanks, Garnet
FREEZING! I love San Simeon and back when Steamers was steamin! GOD BLESS!
Thanks for capturing an epic session and sharing it with us!!! Some real time video of these monsters would be cool.
I know this is dangerous and I’ll never be able to do it in this lifetime, but it looks fun AF!🎉
So, was that a one-and-done for our local legend, Will Scuden?Wish we got to see more of him. Incredible footage !! Bravo !! Pss. this is the only motivation for me doing my curls/bicepts , @20,37 and on,, Love love love the footage. The music..Brilliant..
Thank you man! Great job! from Europe it’s a pleasure Tim! God bless you!!!
Absolutely epic video

An incredible day beautifully captured. Thank you!
Tim & Jeff thanks for producing this. Camera work, soundtrack, editing, and pre-production is all the stuff that makes this great. I lived on the coast 20 years and miss my friends, Mavericks and the OPL. This is one of the best surf films I've ever watched. All the best from Chilly, Idaho.
You went out with The Qualified Captain! Glad you got back ok. Super video, incredible.
I used to surf small waves a bit, and now I bodysurf small waves (post knee surgery) and I love the ocean so much. With that said, if I saw a wave of this size coming towards me, I would chew the veins out of my wrists just to avoid the outcome. I'm in awe of people who do this.

I'm not a surfer, so I'm not up on the lingo, but the word that kept coming to me watching is those waves were "heavy". Awesome footage and kudos to the surfers.
Watching Old Man Sullivan almost made me tear up...hope the locals smash it hard and Ol Sully can get one😢 Talk about a legend with the utmost respect
Keeping it real gents! You're TENACIOUS AF to say the least!
