An interesting fact about Nergigante is that it’s an elder dragon that almost exclusively eats other elder dragons. Meaning that thing actively hunts down monsters that are considered walking catastrophes as its primary food source. Early on when you see them fighting one on the back of Zorah Magdoros (about 8:19 in the video) it was very likely trying to hunt the thing for dinner, and the hunters were all getting in its way

You allmost got it! Nergigante specificly Hunts Elder Dragons who are Dying or just extremely weak. As we saw in the game. He hunted zorah who was litereally on his last jorney to his grave, he tried to kill a very weak and hurt Teostra but when Lunastra apeared he imediatly left knowing he whoudnt be able to defeat a healthy elder dragon or atleast it whoudnt be worth it to do so with the risk of life threathening damage. He was also searching for Shara Ishvalda but was stoped by us making him pass out from the fight with us. As we nearly killed Shara, nergigante took the opportunity to fully kill Shara while it was weakened from the battle. So Nergigante is pretty much the Vulture of Elder dragons.

Just gonna add some context and motivations for the characters hunting down these monsters. Basically we play as a bodyguard/hunter type deal for the field scientists like the woman frequently showed in the cutscenes. We help kill or capture monsters for research, or to help balance the ecosystem. The latter part is especially true for monsters classified as Elder Dragons. Elder Dragons are basically living disasters capable destroying ecosystems and killing an entire state worth of people if they were to rampage. Multiple were shown here, and the lion one you guys liked (Teostra) is said to emit enough heat to turn an entire desert into glass in just a day. You can basically tell that hunting down monsters is a way of life, both for knowledge and keeping the world in balance.

Don’t forget to add harvesting resources and materials from the monsters themselves to survive and create new technologies to increase your chances of survival, since the world is very much overflowing with monsters of all shapes and sizes and humanity is more or less a “blip” in comparison, hence why excessive hunting is never a real issue simply because of how many there are compared to Humanity.

Just so exciting to find out how it behaves and what it's moves are. The feeling gets even better when you fight them over and over again and eventually get so used to their attacks that it almost becomes a dance of sort. Man, I love Monster Hunter... it's awesome. My favorite part of Monster Hunter designs is that they are fantastical yet still follow an obvious ruleset for the world(aside from some Elder Dragons, of course). When a monster is supposed to be able to fly, they retain the believable aspects of a slimmer body and massive wings. When a monster is supposed to spend most of its time burrowing, it is given a more streamlined body and powerful instruments to rend the ground beneath it. They follow this ruleset so uniformly to the point where speculative evolutionary branches can be guessed at(the massive wyverns, Ukanlos and Akantor, could be seen as more close in the evolutionary line to Tigrex and Barioth than the likes of, say, Rathalos and Seregios).

The hunters guild correctly considers humans part of said ecosystem. so protecting humans is just as important as protecting monsters, in fact humans/wyverians/felynes take priority due to the law of nature being you protect yourself first. The Kulu Ya-Ku is actually an opportunist. It likely grabbed that vase because it looked kinda like an egg, and Kulu Ya-Ku will invade the nests of other monsters to steal eggs, which it will then eat. But they are cowardly by nature, so if confronted by a larger monster (or one or more hunters), they will be extremely likely to just run away rather than fight. But they're also unique in that if they are forced to fight, they will actually grab objects form the environment around them to use as weapons (this usually involves it just grabbing a large rock and using it as both an impromptu shield and bludgeon).

Teostra is a personal favorite, too. As a SnS main, his Teostra’s Spada is awesome! I recommend looking up his weapons! He’s known as the Emperor of Flame, and there’s a female variant, Lunastra who is a blue Empress of Flame. Their special attacks are devastating, but they have the ability to combine them into straight up death, essentially. Easily my favorite Elder Dragons!

I'd love to see more Monster Hunter from you guys. Especially some of the pre-World stuff, such as the Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate monster intros. There were some truly amazing intros in that one. They might have been less graphically striking, due to being older and from a handheld console, but I feel they more than make up for it in how they introduced each monster. (The video that I saw was titled "Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - All Monster Intros" and was uploaded by a guy called LONG GAMES.)

Welcome to Monster Hunter! Quick context. Hunters are people who work for The Guild, the main governing force of the series. They slay and capture monsters to study and learn about them while harvesting their bodies for resources and also take down threats to the natural order such as bigger scarier monsters. This is not poaching. The Guild actually outlaws poaching and it’s seen as very very bad. Think of this more like hunter gatherer rather than killing for sport. Below will be timestamps for every monster with some extra information. Name and classification. 1:46 Great Jagras. Fanged Wyvern. These are the much larger alphas of the smaller Jagras. They swallow herbivorous prey whole for easy consumption or to store to throw up for its pack to feast on. 2:03 Kulu Ya-Ku. Bird Wyvern. These creatures have evolved special hands that allow them to firmly grasp round objects such as eggs that they often steal from other monsters and eat. They also have been known to pick up pots and large stones to act as shields or blunt smashing weapons for combat. 2:42 Pukei Pukei. Bird Wyvern. A large creature capable of flight. Pukei Pukei use their long tongues to scoop up and eat nuts, plants, and various mushrooms. These then are broken down into a poison it can spit out of its mouth or spew as a large cloud of gas from its tail. 4:13 Barroth. Brute Wyvern. These heavily armoured creatures often spend their time submerged in mud. This mud can harden on their shells and act as extra body armour. They use their string head crests to smash open termite mounds and eat the little insects inside. Their noses are made up of multiple pipe-like hopes on the top of this credit, which helps them breathe while submerged in the muck. 5:56 Jyuratodus. Piscine Wyvern. A wyvern that has evolved to act like a fish. It lives in muddy swamps and has surprisingly long legs. 6:26 Tobi Kadachi. Fanged Wyvern. Tobi are flying squirrel-like creatures with snake faces that live in trees. They can absorb trace amounts of static electricity from the trees they climb and can generate their own with their sporadic and rapid movements. They can use this electricity to charge them selves up during combat. They also can shoot the quills on their tails like throwing darts. 7:24 Anjanath. Brute Wyvern. A trex-like Monster. It produced a thick mucous that it can spit to Mark it’s territory. Anjanath have a flame sac filled with a highly flammable dust-like material. Anjanath can shoot it out of its nose and mouth and let it catch fire. Anjanath also can release a bony/cartilage structure from their snouts that basically opens up their nasal cavity, allowing them to not only smell better but also intake more oxygen to help keep their fire going. Anjanath can also deploy two sails on their backs that help with bodily heat regulation to prevent heat stroke. 8:06 Zorah Magdaros. Elder Dragon. A gigantic monster known as a moving volcano. It is turtle-like in build with a shell that can produce magma. Basically it’s just big. 8:26 Nergigante. Elder Dragon. Known as the World Eater, it primarily preys on other Elder Dragons for sustenance. Due to its lifestyle, it’s believed it is meant to be the species that retains order by keeping the other dangerous monster populations low. Nergigante are covered in sharp spikes that if used to tackle people with. If lost or broken, these spikes regenerate at an extremely fast rate thanks to its high metabolism. Nergigante was trying to hunt Zorah here. 10:55 Tzitzi Ya-Ku. Bird Wyvern. These raptor like monster use their peculiar head bits to refract light and cause a flashbang effect in front of them. This is extremely effective against the smaller Shamos that live in the area whom have extremely sensitive eyesight. Large flashes of light are also very effective against flying targets, like small birds it may eat. 11:28 Paolumu. Flying Wyvern. Using an air sac on its neck, it can inhale a ton of air and float like a balloon. It primarily feeds on coral by vacuum sucking in particles of coral that are on the coral trees. Sudden flashes of light can cause it to fall out of the air. The light thing works on anything that’s not touching the ground. 11:47 Great Girros. A gross lizard that feeds on rotting flesh and corpses. It uses its strange neck fringes to make calls and nosies to help control its smaller underlings, Girros. 12:44 Radobaan. Brute Wyvern. A large Monster covered in a tar-like substance. It travels by rolling around like a wheel, sticking bones to itself for protection. Uses its massive chin as a smashing weapon. 13:35 Legiana. Flying Wyvern. A creature that produces a liquid that when shot out of pores on its wings instantaneously freeze into ice upon contact with air. Extremely skilled in flying. Considered the apex predator of the Coral Highlands. 14:42 Odogaron. Fanged Wyvern. Adapted to live in a location filled with toxic gas and bacteria, it primarily feeds on fallen corpses and rotting flesh. Extremely fast. It uses its secondary pair of hidden razor sharp claws to inflict bleed on potential living targets to feed on them. Considered the apex predator of the Rotten Vale. It is being shot at and deterred by poop from a slingshot. 16:09 Rathalos. Flying Wyvern. Rathalos is the mascot of the franchise, being present in every game and being the face of the series. He’s even in Super Smash Bros as a boss! Rathalos breathe fireballs from their mouths and also can produce a potent venom in their talons. They mostly hunt by flying around and finding prey with their sharp eyesight. They are the male equivalent to Rathian, a monster that unfortunately did not get an intro cutscene. It is considered the apex predator of the Ancient Forest. 18:57 Diablos. Flying Wyvern. A monster adapted to digging through the sand. Due to its heavy body armour it lost the ability of prolonged flight. It uses its two giant horns to duel others of its species for dominance and also suplexing other monsters. Despite its appearance, it’s actually an Herbivore that eats cactus. It is considered the apex monster of the Wildspire Wastes. 21:06 Pink Rathian. Flying Wyvern. Subspecies. Pink Rathian are a subspecies of the regular Rathian which is green. Rathian are like Rathalos but prefer fighting on the ground and instead of venomous talons, they have many venomous spines on their tails. They often do backflips to try and poison attackers. Pink Rathian differs from the average Rathian due to it having slightly tougher scales on its body. Rathalos also has a subspecies called Azure Rathalos. It’s blue and basically flies forever, rarely touching the ground during combat unless you throw a flashbang at it. 21:21 Dodogama. Fanged Wyvern. A rotund and chubby lizard that primarily eats rocks and crystal. Extremely passive. When it consumes certain stones, it smells them down into explosive globs of lava that it can spit. Very cute fellow. 22:18 Lavasioth. Piscine Wyvern. These monsters swim in and live in lava and magma. They also drink it. They can spit globs of the stuff as an offensive measure. They can ask stick lava on their bodies that cools into a rocky armour. 22:42 Uragaan. Brute Wyvern. A close relative of Radobaan. They roll around as a transportation method. They can also deploy spherical rock-like bombs from their tails. They also can eject a large amount of sleep inducing gas from their underbellies for some reason. Also fights with its chin. The tremors caused by its chin can cause its bombs to explode. 25:06 Kushala Daora. Elder Dragon. A dragon covered in a metallic shell across its entire body. It has the mysterious power to manipulate wind, storm, and create tornados. These often pick up small objects like rocks, fire, or crystals. Still being researched as to how it controls wind. 25:53 Teostra. Elder Dragon. Capable of breathing an extremely large amount of fire. Teostra’s most dangerous ability is its blast powder. Bits of Teostra’s hair, scales, and skin flakes will fly into the air as it moves and flaps its wings. By then gnashing its jaws together, if can create a spark like flint and steel which causes a massive chain reaction of explosions thanks to the combustible material. Teostra have been known to raid human settlements and fortresses, eating all the gunpowder, and then flying away. It fights you with its dandruff. 28:02 Vaal Hazak. Elder Dragon. A disgusting and mysterious monster that covers itself in flesh. It has a symbiotic relationship with a flesh eating bacteria known as Effluvium. It uses this during combat to quickly end targets. Yucky, smells bad. 29:47 Xeno’Jiiva. Elder Dragon. The result of many Monster’s Bioenergy culminating into one place to birth an extremely dangerous monster. When monsters die, their Bioenergy is released into the earth and into the Everstream, a river of life that produces plants and stuff. This is why the Coral Highlands exist. A lot of that Bioenergy however got redirected here and made blue alien baby who can shoot laser beams. Almost every monster can be explained biologically. They aren’t demons or nightmare spawns, they’re animals. Freaky animals, but animals. They have their ecological niches and roles in the environment. The exceptions are about half of the Elder Dragons who we simply do not understand yet due to them being so rare and dangerous to be close to. Also important to note that the Guild isn’t this external force. They, and all the people they govern over, are part of this ecosystem. They have their own roles to play in maintaining the order but also learning and being one with nature.

The Monster Hunter franchise is one really close to my heart alongside Final Fantasy and the FromSoft lineage of games. What stood out to me most about World compared to a lot of the games I've played is that you could be hunting a monster and literally as you're running to the one you're hunting, you see the other monsters just chilling in the world and minding their own business. On the hunt to a Rathian? You might find a Diablos munching on Cacti Not only that, there's also how couple-monsters react when their significant other is threatened. Imagine fighting a Rathalos and his wife, the Rathian, comes in and backflips on you. Imagine fighting a Teostra and his wife, the Lunastra, comes in and they do a tag-team special attack that can knock you out if you don't get far enough away. I just love how the world feels alive and how it feels like you're just another link in the food chain, you do your thing and they do theirs. There's even the free-roaming options where you can hop into a map with no target and you can just go around, exploring the entire map, even finding passageways and shortcuts you wouldn't have known if you kept going through the route your scoutflies guide you. I really want you guys to try out Monster Hunter World if you haven't, especially Iceborne as it has you fight the "Black God" itself, FATALIS, a grand fight that left many players burnt and unable to finish but there are many more who pushed through and took down the great dragon to claim their prize... then beat it several more times to make an armor set out of the dragon

That's why I love MH, it's not just evil monsters like a ramdom CGI Hollywood monster, these monsters act like real coherent animals ! And also rathian is the female of Rathalos And you should listen to some MH music, it's pretty good like zinogre theme or Brachydios theme Also in MH, Hunters doesn't hunt for sport. They hunt to save the world.Certain Monsters(called Elder dragon like Teostra or the New born thing in the end) are so powerful that their simple existence is a danger to the ecosystem. Like for example, if Kushala Daora come to a forest, it will instantly rain with a dangereous strom Also 27:45 Nice quote from Shang Tsung

All of the monsters here are divided into certain classifications that show how they're related. I highly recommend watching the intros for Iceborne and Rise as well, since they show more monsters. Here are all the classifications in the series (discounting small monsters). Beware, there's a lot of reading ahead. Fanged wyvern: These are either the big lizards or big dogs (Great Jagras, Odogaron). Fun fact: Until this game, there was only one monster in the series that was classified as a fanged wyvern - the thunder wolf Zinogre and its subspecies from the third generation. It wouldn't be until the fifth generation (World + Rise) that new fanged wyverns would arrive. Flying wyvern: Two wings and two legs (Rathalos, Rathian, Legiana). Pseudo-wyvern: A subset of flying wyvern that uses their wings as forelimbs (none shown in this video). Bird wyvern: Either raptor-like monsters (Kulu-Ya-Ku) or smaller, feathered flying wyverns (Pukei-Pukei). Piscine wyvern: Big fish with legs (Jyruatodus, Lavasioth). Brute wyvern: Similar in structure to a T-rex (Anjanath, Barroth, Radobaan, Uragaan). Snake wyvern: Big snake - only one in the entire series - Najarala (not shown). Fanged beast: Ape- or bear-like monsters, with one being a giant mammoth (none shown in this video). Leviathan: Semi- or fully-aquatic monsters specialized in swimming - in Monster Hunter Tri, you could actually fight them underwater, but not anymore (none shown in this video). Amphibians: Most similar to frogs or other amphibious creatures (none shown in this video). Neopterons: Big insect-like creatures (none shown in this video). Carapaceons: Big crab-like creatures (none shown in this video). Temnocerans: Big spider-like creatures (none shown in this video). Elder Dragon: Immensely powerful creatures that don't fit into any other class - mostly resemble traditional dragons (Teostra, Nergigante, Kushala Daora, Vaal Hazak), but there are exceptions, such as the unicorn-like Kirin. I know that this is a lot, and if you're still reading, thank you.

One thing to note is that these creatures don't need your pity to spare them. This a savage world where giant monsters like these are very common, and humanity isn't here to destroy the environment and render animals extinct like the real world. In fact, it play the opposite way. Because of the growth of nature is so powerful in this world, we hunt them so that the wild is kept in check before they inadvertently destroy the ecosystem.

I know I said this in another video but I'll say it again since this is a Monster Hunter video. You should react to Monster Hunter Rise - All Monster Intros! It's basically a showcase of the cool monsters from game list these ones but way better. The intro for each monster consists of a short video showcasing each monster, with a poem describing their deal and ending on a freeze frame with the monster's title on the top left and their name on the bottom right. It's a great introduction to the monsters even more then these are! In case you decide to react to All Monster intros in Rise, here's the best quality video for it! kzread.info/dash/bejne/k2Fq2qSdmcqWkZM.html

I'm so happy you guys did the Monster Hunter World Intro's honestly all monsters have a lot to them so it'd be hard to explain them all. You may remember me explaining the different types of monsters. Also something to point out Monster Hunter World is the game that put Monster Hunter on the map. What I mean is that Monster Hunter was a very niche game few people knew it and those that did loved it tremendously. Monster Hunter World was Capcom's biggest and most successful entry into the series and it got the entire world interested in the series. Anyway I'll explain some of the monsters you guys are interested in, the Lava Griffon is Teostra it is a rarity in Elder Dragons in that it is a monster paired with another and more specifically it is the 'Male' of the two, the other monster is called Lunastra and she is the female counterpart and the two will defend each other fiercely. The last monster is called Xeno'Jiva and like you guessed it is the baby or larval form of an Elder Dragon. If you guy's watch the intros of Iceborne you'll see what it eventually grows into. The monster with the flashing fins is called Tzi-Tzi Yaku and it's both famous and infamous for it's habit of coming across hunts and blinding both monsters and hunters with it's flash then running away afterward. The monster with the vase is called Kulu-Yaku despite the similar last name pretty sure Tzi-Tzi and Kulu are not related to each other in terms of actual species but more of genus. Anyway he might like cute but this monster is an egg thief and egg eater and will go to both herbivore and wyvern nests to steal their eggs and eat it for itself. One thing to keep in mind they are called monsters for a reason. I've already mentioned the Monster Hunter Rise Intros, and I mentioned in past checking out the roars, and I say the roars for 2 reasons. In World especially early you have to discover footprints and hunt monsters to build up your knowledge so more often than not you can identify monsters by their roars and believe me some monsters have VERY loud roars. And second reason is to hear the sound design behind the roars because some roars are just very well done. Only other video I would recommend is checking out the armors of MH World and you can see the fascinating and wonderful armor designs. Hunters Unite and Happy Hunting!

Fun Fact: Despite what their size and shape might suggests, the Barroth only eats termites and the Diablos is a vegetarian, but both are extremely grumpy, so they will attack anything on sight. Fun Fact 2: Monster Hunter differentiates between two primary monster classifications (as well as a bunch of sub classifications). Regular monsters that can be captured for study, and Elder Dragons which cannot be captured and are ecological disasters ready to happen. The last few monster introductions you saw here were Elder Dragons. The Godzilla size monster was also an Elder Dragon. Essentially, if it has 6 limbs, four legs and two wings, then it's an Elder Dragon. However, there are non-dragons that are powerful enough to classify as Elder Dragons like the Kirin, a unicorn type monster, and the Rajang, a Gorilla type monster that hunt down Kirin for their horns. Can't wait for the rest of the monster intros, as well as the monster intros from the Iceborne expansion.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames The game gives you four different in-universe reasons why you hunt. 1. Conservation of the ecosystem 2. Dealing with troublemakers to the community 3. Study (capture and release with some exceptions) 4. Food...I think In almost every case capture and release is the more efficient way. It's faster than going for the kill, and you get all the same rewards as if you had killed the monster, and some rewards can only be acquired via capture. Only exception are monsters under the Elder Dragon category which are impossible to capture. But there's really only one reason players hunt. Cause it's fun and cause you turn the monster's body parts into weapons and armor that will help you hunt even bigger and stronger monsters. Yes, you still get body parts even if you capture and release. Video game logic.

Best part is a lot of the earlier cutscenes will show actual gameplay mechanics, like the scatternut to the Barroths Eye, telling us that wedge beetles exist with Jyura, and dropping the boulder on Anjanath. Even the 2nd cutscene in the game where the Anjanath first shows up it shows that sometimes when dodging it does a little leap instead of a roll.

Basically it helps break down the bodies in the Rotten Vale, the mass graveyard for monsters in the area. Vaal Hazak has a symbiotic relationship with the effluvium an can control it.
