Got nearly 1000 hours in the game Im almost 100% completed as well Can confirm i still lack so much experience I only found out like 2 weeks ago that blagonga can get rid of a paintball Theres so much content and depth to learn i still feel like ive only played half the game despite having a set for every single weapon, completing every quest except dreadking and bloodbath's lines and event quests. This game is an absolute beast in content, presentation and gameplay

Don't sleep on the support moves and skills either. "Mega Boomerang" does insane damage once you learn when to use it, Chestnut Cannon has massive stun power, and free Bounce Bombays for when you need to de-ceiling that Khezu or Ceanataur...

I don't know why people kick others out for playing Prowler. Honestly, those players can be great support players, and can hold their own in a pinch.

Great video. I’m glad you could weasel your way into the MH scene given that other people may have already covered nearly every topic, but you’re for sure teaching me things I don’t know and I watch almost exclusively MH stuff on KZread.

You just earned yourself a sub, sir. I absolutely adore this video, I had no idea about all the strengths and weaknesses of Prowlers until now with over 300 hours in MHGU. And it's not like I haven't been interested and didn't try to look... I would love there to be a comprehensive guide to making a kick-ass ideal Palico according to your preference for example, but I go off-topic. You did an excellent job! Oh, and you certainly made me want to try Alchemy style, I enjoyed Hunting Horn on some occasion in MHW:I :)

GenU is a great contender for my favorite game of all time.

brilliant video, you can FEEL the love for GU here. Also Idk about charisma but I gotta make a case for my boi fighter prowler. if protection prowler (my fav) has an adept guard and bomb has an adept dodge, fighter goes into a fury mode where it can perform aerial vaults that automatically do the somersault spin attack (final hit in normal combo). meaning you can spam vaults and spins for an ABSURD number of hits back to back, not to mention their melee damage is 2nd best under beast, which makes them phenomenal at elemental and status aside from just pure raw damage.

The wait was worth it!, thanks for such a good content

I soloed G-rank (including the final boss) _as a melee Prowler._ Boomerang spam may be "the meta" but when you know what you're doing, melee cats are just as viable.

@@fbmb1337 its not impossible i can do it up hell blade n silver wind so far. extreme and deviants over +4 are sweaty fights though for me 100 hours in.

awesome video! i would like to point out that the adept dodge of bomb cat lays bombs down at the start of the animation and periodically after that if you continue to roll. Also healing prowler has the extra heal after use on ANY horn move, not just healing ones.

You must be thinking of "Explosive Roll" skill, because the adept dodge only drops one bomb and the roll itself wears off after about 2 seconds.

Couple corrections to 8:10, SP1's effect is dependent on the hunting style you are using. Only Striker has faster art gain during it due to getting automatic recharge over time. Second, SP2 slows/negates max stamina gauge decreasing, not stamina usage. It's not worth spending a hunter art charge at 2, over saving until hitting level 3.

alchemy main here! glad to hear alchemy get some love oversea. my favorite weapons with this style (in order) are gunlance, switch axe, insect glave, long sword, charge blade and SnS. about the alchemy items, all asian guides I've read only recommend whetstone and cheer but no alchemy booster, here is some maths from a taiwanese guide: given situation is time cost for 2 cheer: no alchemy booster：50*5+50*5=500S with alchemy booster：50*3+40*5+(100S*40S/tick)+50*2.5=575S 575S-500S=75S, *wasted 1.25 minutes* btw if you like explosions a lot, you can give alchemy gunlance a try, because one of its hunter art, Blast Dash feels like it's tailor made for alchemy style: it boost the alchemy guage by 5 seconds when landed the hit, and it can be immediately followed up with a full burst which filled up 1/3 of the gauge of the art itself (given a 5 shell normal GL)! Other than that, level 3 is count as a mount attack which has huge mounting damage, it only takes 3 times to mount a brachy iirc. the alchemy boosting action is the slam and can can be done after 2 shield poke only in this style, which encourage you to use more full blast which you normally wouldn't do in other styles. the CD and charging time of wyvern fire is also halfed from 2 to 1 minutes... basically if you like explosions, you are very likely to love alchemy gunlance!

this game is great i always tell people who only played world that they should at least play this game if no other old MH games.

I've actually done pretty well soloing through a lot of G-rank and I have to say, haven't had much of an issue with many quests other than the occasional hyper monster that can be rough. Looking at you, hyper g nargacuga and hyper silver and gold rathalos/rathian. Nothing else seems to be nearly as much of a challenge, but I've only gone as far as a couple of g rank elders and the hyper fated four. I'm hoping the few deviants I've worked on will get super tough at end game. I'm also not using mixed sets and have Ahtal-Ka armor.

Quick notes about Fighter and Charisma cats: - Fighter: Gets an Aerial-style dodge (with spinning melee finisher) when angry - Charisma: Gets an Aerial-style dodge (with standard jump attack) when Palico Rally is active. (Palico Rally is a medium attack+defense buff for all cats in the party.) - Charisma also has +1 empty move slot for learning moves from other cats.

I want prowlers back :(

I was already thinking about but gen U since I skipped gen back when it came out on ds, but this series def pushed me over the edge.

I put 184 hrs in this game in dec and jan and it became the title that put me into the mh games!

By all technicality prowler would be the 17th weapon type, since we'd have to include the other (non mainline) one-offs, the tonfas and magnet spike

If you think the black dragons are the end game you are mistaken. Gen U basically makes them like gateway monsters to the real hard stuff. I'm looking at you lvl 15 Dreadking rath and Boltreaver astalos, which you have to fight at the same time. . . in the same map as Alatreon, Crimson Fatalis, and Akantor. Nowhere to hide there. When you have max gear and defense and a rathalos can hit you for 149 out of 150 hp you know the game isnt taking your shit anymore. (yes 150 is the max in everything before world)

True but many people found trouble with the Rise demo because the game just starts and doesn't cater towards new people. Gen u starts slow but its necessary to slowly get people into the mechanics

That's also how Monster Hunter games normally go. The slow part at the start is to get you into the habit of gathering rocks, bugs, honey, etc so that once you start unlocking the Wyverns and onward, the prep is ingrained in you. You learn the locations of things in the map and can make potions and mega potions on the spot if your in a tough quest and running low on healing items. Its also part of the harsh learning curve that made Monster Hunter what it is (imo), not defending it though, those first hours are a nightmare, but make the moment you kill that first large monster feel like a large door is opened in front of you, before killing your first Wyvern and a larger door is opened.... Before the Super Saiyan Monkey (Rajang) gets annoyed and pounds you into dust and the Fatalis burns you to ash XD

Yes the pacing is horrible. Also it is basically mandatory to look up which quests are key quests. There are like 50+ gathering or kill 10 small monsters monsters quests and only 10+ actual hunts in the early lowrank quests. So look up the key quests that should streamline the process of getting to play the part of the game that's actually fun.

After playing Monster Hunter: World as my first MH game I was told by a few friends that i should try out Gen U on the switch because they all played it on the DS and enjoyed it. However, all of their reasons i should play it basically amounted to "I SUFFERED THROUGH IT SO YOU HAVE TO. WORLD IS JUST NORMIE MONSTER HUNTER. HARDER MEANS BETTER" it's great to finally hear some clear and concise reasoning as to why i should try it out...... but Rise has me hooked so maybe later. Also none of us have beaten EX Behemoth and a few got stuck on Fatalis so i guess world is too hard for them after all.

Id love to see a prowler type mode in rise.

I remember playing mhgen on my 3ds but I soon quit because of mhw so I never really got to play G rank I really do wanna go back and play but with new games coming every time I wanna play pushes me back to play it.

I bought the game thanks to your first video and im having a blast

the thing i hate about GU is people leaving the lobbys or even kicking you if the quest you post they dont like it

It's def worth it. If you enjoy the old MH type of games, you'll most likely enjoy it. I love the addition of styles - it adds so much variety to the weapons. Also, lots of content and very fun monsters to fight against. The first hour or two are slow, but after that it picks up and gets much better

The collaborations in GU were amazing. Only thing World did better than GU in terms of crossovers was that we got new monsters basically in Behemoth and Leshion. Behemoth was really fun and had some really good equipment. Leshion was a little more annoying and had less to say on the weapon and armor department. If future games have the same amount of crossover content as GU, keep the weapons, armor, guild card customization, but also add more interesting quests like giant super Kulu and giant Ratholos and new monsters like World did and we are in a great place.

Love this 2 part series - lots of valid points about great things in GenU - I don't like the separation of hub/village though - It's great to be able to choose whether to play everything solo or as a group. And if you have a scaling system anyway (like in world/rise) it's not a problem difficulty wise. Being able to decide how I want to play and not being forced to play the "campaign" solo is a major plus of World in my book.

Oh I agree for sure! I like the Worldborne way of things when it comes to quests. The separation is probably more appealing to those that like a challenge in soloing the hub stuff that's pre-scaled

I was pretty much a prowler main in GU. SnS was my secondary weapon.

Yep

I beated my head against that one monster for the starfox armor to give my palico before I even had semi decent high rank... no regrets.

I really enjoy MHGU myself. There's just so much depth and fun to the game that it is definitely worth the investment.

Will they ever remaster this og MH?

So I have played mh4u and have gen u because I thought 4u wasn't going to take that long but I'm not the best player so I haven't been able to start gen u and with rise so close to being released I don't know if I should wait to play rise and take on gen u

If you like customization in your skill builds and responsive over the top combat. Gen you is pur-fect. You might want some high Pun and cuteness tolerance though.

Just finished all the main quests in rise and never finished generations on 3ds so now my friends and I are getting gen u on switch to play till rise gets g rank expansions

Lol the same goes for me. Bought it a few weeks ago and was like "it's just a Lagombi" even though I knew it was scaled up. With my shity armor and almost no healing (it was like the first day I played the game) it destroyed me

I can't see myself playing the Hub since I mostly play solo. The village itself is already time-consuming, and not always for good reason.

GU (and soon Rise) are the only two games that make buying a Nintendo Switch a good buy for me.

Just wanna say that GenU isn't low resolution itself, the games textures are still the same 3ds ones but the game itself runs at full HD 1080p. Game honestly doesn't look bad check out digital foundry video on it.

My problem with MHW is you can never dress for looks because there’s so much emphasis on optimizing damage skills. I suppose it’s not necessary but if I do all defensive/utility skills I feel like i’m gonna notice a sharp damage fall off. There’s only a few pieces that give you wex, crit eye, and crit boost (never all in one set), so I end up looking like a total clown with mixed sets. Maybe they should’ve made it easier to craft layered armor, idk but there hasn’t been a single scenario where i’ve wanted to use a full set of armor. It takes hundreds to thousands of hours to get the decorations you want, and no full set has been good enough to wear. I mix and match pieces to get the damage skills and end up looking like an idiot. My biggest problem with Monster Hunter (i’ve only played world) is it’s just way too damn grindy. I’ve put 150 hours in and I still don’t have one longsword for each element, and no weapons in other classes. It takes a ridiculous amount of grinding to get all the charms, deco’s and armor sets you want, and armor in low/high rank becomes absolutely worthless in master rank. So you spend time grinding for nothing, there’s no way to scale up your previous pieces of armor. I know that crafting and progression is a big part of the game, but it just feels excessive in MHW. Before anyone comments; I know that some past games were even more convoluted and they’ve streamlined a lot in World but that’s just my opinion.

for me its kind of sad that this game is likely going to be the last old style game well get and yes future games might take aspects but its not the same don't get me wrong in general I like were monster hunter is going just a shame the old style likely wont make it into the future

I know you were talking in general, but I'm mostly a solo hunter myself... I got into GU late because I was hoping they would come back to it and release it for 3DS because I didn't want to get a Switch, obviously I bucketed and got one, but I don't regret waiting so late because it gave me more time to grind things in the base game and that data was able to be transfered over so I had a very decent starting point. Also, I didn't do mix sets myself. I made the armors I liked and dealt with the benefits that I got from it (using my deco and talismans for light tweaks). When it comes to "meme weapons" (I called them joke weapons myself), don't get me started. But here's three of my faves. Frozen Speartuna: Great Sword= A giant Speartuna(basically a swordfish) Might Cornpopper: Gunlance= A large corn on a cob for the lance with a farmers hat for the shield Glutton's Set: Dual Swords= A Fork and Knife (I think the line also goes into a Spatula and Laidal[think i misspelled that]) A few things you failed to mention on the Prowlers setion (and honestly I'm a little disappointed you didn't mention you can dress your Prowler like Dante from DMC, which looks awesome with Beast Prowler [Devil Trigger]). First off, ALL Prowlers have the ability to tranq a monster, its laced into their claw attacks. Even bigger than that, Prowlers ALWAYS track monsters automatically, making them great assets to a hunt. Meaning not only do you not need paintballs in a group with a Prowler, but after you start on a monster, a Prowler will automatically see if another monster invaded and where it is. Also, like your Palicos, you can swap their skills and passives depending on what you need as well as teach some of them to other kitties (the core ability of each Palico can't be taught to others, like the True Health Horn or Beast Palico's rage mode). Its awesome having my Beast Palico with Rath-o-Meow and Trampoliner plus High Grade Earplugs. Not only that, Prowlers always have pickaxes and bug nets AND their inventory isn't tied to your inventory so they have more space if your doing gathering quest and refilling your resources (I used them for that the most). Understanably, going into everything the Prowlers can do would be a video within itself, but they were a force to be reckon with, it also should have been a good lesson to Capcom. They originally intended Prowler to be 'easy-mode' for Hunters just getting into the game, they didn't see it being an end game viable option with Hunters actively opting for this mode over their Hunter mode and performing on par with the other 14 weapons.
