Monster fish caught by my kid

My son Tristan (5 years old) caught a monster carp off of hotdog. I made him hook and reel the big fish in the whole time.

Reminds me of the time I first caught a fish with my dad. At the time, I was around this kid's age. I caught a catfish and at the time, I found it rly hard to reel it in since it kept trying to swim away. Hardest part was when I got it out the water. Young me found it super heavy since the fish was still hooked and my little noodle arms at the time tried my best to keep it in the air till my parents grabbed a bucket and put it there. Fun times.

I used to fish with my dad all the time as a kid, but not once did he ever let me reel it in. He’d get all excited, yank the pole from my hands, reel it in, get it off the hook and then let me hold it/throw it back. I think he took me along less as a father/daughter bonding activity and more as a way to monitor two poles at the same time. :/

Whats the point then. You would just harm the fish inside the mouth. I rather kill and eat it. So he dont suffer. Why doing it for sport alone. Imagine hooking the inside of ur mouth for a few second and let go of u just so u can get back to ur friend. But with a crack deep as it can be inside ur mouth. Do it for the food or dont do it at all.

@@Marta_Fanai Well said, and you're correct, fish do feel pain. This concept wasn't commonly studied until early 2000s and is surprisingly still debated today. My 'fish story' took place in 1982. We were fishing for yellow perch, about 10" long and excellent to eat, using spinner type lures with barbless hooks. Fish won't swallow them like bait and undersized ones can be released with minimal injury. The carp is not good to eat and was a huge (no pun intended) surprise, they hardly ever take lures and were extremely rare where this one was captured. I've fished using barbless hooks since early '60s and am not a sport fishing advocate for reasons you describe. Today I teach people who insist on sport fishing to use modern plastic tube lures with no hooks. The fish - especially smallmouth bass - repeatedly attack these lures (since they're not injured) and some will actually jump from the water chasing them.... I'm glad you responded, it's good to know that others are advocates for wildlife welfare. I've seen horrific decimation of wildlife in my lifetime, now it seems finally more persons are trying to protect that which remains

Before he was in kindergarten, he was outfishing me. Reeled in and landed completely unassisted a monster bass when he was 4, bigger than any I ever caught. I had to help him hold it for a picture, and that was it. He tied his own bait, walked away down the shore by himself, casted, set the hook for a bite, picked his own spots (still in view), everything. But lo, be prepared to hear every day for the rest of your life- "Can we go fishing today?"

@@lilyxciv5637 go get a couple poles from Walmart and just start doing it! You don’t need anyone to teach you now, you know how to use KZread and you can find everything there you need to know plus a bunch you don’t! Get out and do it and have fun, you’ll figure it out real quick!! It ain’t hard at all but don’t forget to stop at Walmart and go back to the fishing section and they have a counter back there and tell them you need a fishing license. You will need one but your son won’t yet. While your there, get two fishing poles that have Zebco 33 reels on them. It is one of the best, easiest to use and learn on fishing pole 🎣 out there. It’s what I grew up e we it’s and they’ve probly been around 75 years now and they don’t cost much. If you have any other questions just ask! I think most of us out here would be happy to help ya get started but it’s really not hard

Yeah right, so who's fault is that? Tell him to go to a fish shop if want fish? Instead of bragging about his assisted fishing exploits. Teach him something useful to this world and that's NOT fishing.

This is nothing I used to have to wait at his age for hours on the boat at his age,for one slurry of bites.I was always sick and threw up,but my dad and his friends never took me back and I just got stronger.Know I’m 12 and lead my little cousins, siblings, and my dad’s friends kids fishing.Anyway, this kid is awesome for his age,and that is a nice sized carp!

@@pancouvervenguins8573 I mean it’s really not a small fish. It may not be that hard to reel in (unless you were using a 4 foot rod with 4lb test and no net like I did), but you don’t have to be so uncool about it. Stop thinking your tough shit for reeling in a halibut. 12 year olds can probably fight one
