Monster 73" Hobbyking Sbach 342 RC Plane Maiden Flight

Ғылым және технология

Unfortunately, I can't give you a link on where to buy this exact plane, but Phoenix Models offers a 65" Sbach 342 on Tower Hobbies:
www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/...
They also have a smaller 55" Sbach that should be re-stocked in mid-July
www.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/...
This is Dave's re-maiden of his big 'ole 73" HobbyKing Sbach 342. He flew it once but the elevator servos he installed were not up to the job and he nearly crashed the plane. Watch the video to see how he made out after upgrading the elevator servos.

Thanks for taking us along on your re-maiden Dave! Yup, looks like a fantastic bird to fly on windy days when most others will be grounded.

I always thought the Sbach was a very sharp looking plane in that black/red/white combo. Thanks for the comment.

Congratulations! Nice model, the Sbach is a nice looking and flying model from the days when Hobbyking had some decent balsa/ply models…. A sad demise for HK.

You make me feel better showing that near stall. I wrote mine off stalling on the landing & it is good to see that even the best can almost get caught out & it is only their skill that prevents it

What servos are in this plane? I just got mine delivered 65.5 from Tower and it’s the perfect size that I was looking for! Plus the wings are different! and I love these flat wings with the wing caps for knife-edge! So anyway yeah what servos are in here?

Hello I have to make a correction on the dimension of the prop it's a 1910 I don't know where I got that number from and yes the Turnigy prop has some issues I agree this particular one I have to re-center the hole in the hub I could not balance it that prop was only use for the maiden flight that airplane is a HobbyKing experiment I decided to take on and the experiment is this everything on the airplane was bought at HobbyKing the total cost of everything was just around 600 bucks I priced everything name brands and the total cost would have been upwards of 1500 bucks on another note the plane is heavier than it should be because I'm using heavier batteries cuz I just have them but will continue trying to tweak it and will keep you guys posted

@@txkflier it was pretty confusing for a while but HobbyKing sold different versions of the airplane at different times and I was lucky that when I got mine mine does have the plug-in stabs also another reason why I get the long flight times it can because I fly a very low throttle setting and half my flight I'm just doing Touch and Go

Hello John - I just received the Phoenix Models 65.5" Sbach 342 as you mentioned since the Hobby King Sbach 73" is discontinued. Watching your videos, it seems like you try to purchase electronics with the mindset of PRICE/COST CONTAIMENT vs QUALITY/RELIABILITY without breaking the bank which I would like to follow your lead. Could you recommend to me what items to purchase in regards to: motor, ESC, and servos? Phoenix Models recommends: Brushless Outrunner Motor: .120 Rimfire (discontinued so I have to substitute anyway) ESC: 80-100A Servos: 5 standard - 2-aileron, 2-elevator, 1-rudder

You're right about my strategy. I try to find the best value. That doesn't mean cheapest--so you've got the strategy. I'll let you in on a little secret for motor selection. This chart should help get you in the ballpark for more standard motor sizing. innov8tivedesigns.com/docs/Airplane-Motor-Chart.htm So a Rimfire 120 is ~= 4130/14-450Kv So if you look for a Cobra or Sunnysky in that size, you should be pretty close to what you need. Hobbywing Platinum Pro for 100a is what I would use. Servos: Not an area to go cheap. Look at KST. They have a wide range of escalating performance/price in standard servos. On my last build I used X20-4208's for rudder, and each aileron. Since I had two elevator servos, I went with X20-3005's. But those are top of the line servos. A20-3813's are just as strong and will save you some $$. Have fun with your new plane.

Hello to try to answer the question with my opinion flaps on this type of aircraft with this kind of flying tendencies would probably increase the problem what is happening is the plane has a tendency to tip stall when it gets slow what I'll try to do is one I can reduce the weight but definitely add some washout or Vortex generator on the wingtips so they don't stall before the center of the wing will try that see what happens
