Monorail is the Wrong Transit Choice for Putrajaya

Today we're talking about Putrajaya Monorail, a cancelled transit in Putrajaya, the administrative capital of Malaysia
The 'postponement' of monorail project paired with infrequent and inefficient bus forced 85% of the people in Putrajaya come to work with car or motorcycle.
What are the reasons for the 'postponement' of Putrajaya Monorail and what is the best transit solution for Putrajaya?

Holy shit very nice and informative video. Do more of this please! We need more support for a robust public transport system, no more excuses for a car-centric society.

Well explained. I think a monorail would be useful only if made longer, for example starting from Cyberjaya > Putrajaya Central > Putrajaya City > IOI City > Kajang Station. In this way it would be a connector line for many towns and small cities in south KV. (PS: Didn't expect to see my name at the end, u made my day 😁)

We can start with frequent bus service running at high frequency 10-15 mins with dedicated bus lanes. When demand picks up, move up to trolley busses/articulated bus and finally trams. Monorail was just a gadgetbahn and please avoid the ART(glorified bus). Of course, discourage driving by charging congestion fee, higher petrol prices, high parking fee

I was on the project team until a few months before its cancellation, due to 3 reasons. 1. Safety reason after a wheel fell off KL Monirail and injured a passerby. 2. When some old fox was on the way out from being the multicultural PM and the champion of his Chinese friends unlike now, he was armtwisted by the incoming to sell the Chinese shares to a favorite SIL who had no experience in public works or train manufacturing. 3.Putrajaya was never going to be a business or industriail centre, no matter how much maruah or ketuanan was screamed. The business case for self sustaining Monorail has never been convincing, as the failure you see now. Putrajaya will fail just like Brazilia, Canberra and the coming Nusantara

That's a no-no in my books. Here's why: 1. It's a glorified dual-cockpit, bi-articulated bus. 2. The term "Autonomous" in ART is just in the name. It still requires human drivers to monitor the autopilot, unlike driverless LRTs and MRTs. 3. Idk about you, but imo, mantaining marked lines for autonomous drive is easier said than done compared to physical rail. As stated in the video, BRT is the most suitable transit for Putrajaya because it's cheaper to build, operate and maintain, and it also could utilize existing monorail infrastructures such as underground tunnels. Although that basically sums the ending part of the video, but you get the idea. The only thing in the video I would correct is the fact that the suggested BRT lines should utilize trolleybuses instead of electric buses because: 1. Trolleybuses has less carbon footprint and safer to operate than electric buses due to having smaller power storage. 2. They are more reliable as they draw power from overhead wires, ensuring a continuous power supply. 3. They last longer. There are content creators who made videos discussing how trolleybuses are superior compared to electric buses. You can check it out.

tak sesuai… penduduk pun tak ramai… unless ade kuatkuasa larangan kenderaan karbon masuk Putrajaya baru boleh… ini hari Sabtu Ahad lengang, perkhidmatan monorail bukan murah, nak maintenance pakai air liur…

The only purpose Putrajaya Monorail would exist is as tourist transport for sightseeing. This has always and will always be, the justification for monorail. KL Monorail sucks edit: Oh, and also, Putrajaya is by design, where all the elite bureucracy of Malaysia work, so there is an element of segregation by car that is hardcoded in Putrajaya's design. edit 2: if anythings a given, KotaSAS is proposing a BRT Line in the township and to TSK. There is, of course, talks with CCRC for a suspended monorail to Kuantan 188 edit 3: Trolley bus better than electric bus. Boleh je pasang wayar atas tu.
