It doesn’t usually do so well against creature heavy decks (Winona, Kinnan, etc) the it also turns its caster into sort of lightning rod for player removal

One thing a lot of people miss about Slicer (including the players in this game) is that the back side is NOT a creature! In this case, Elliot could have drawn with Remora. It also means it's vulnerable to the commonly played counterspells, Deafening Silence, Esper Sentinel, etc. It's super easy to miss because it's effectively a creature in all the practical ways.

I think slicer was being played wrong... you may give control of slicer to a target opponent. Which was played right but it doesnt return to person who played slicer at end of opponents' turn. The player who plays slicer no longer owns it, its owned by the opponent who was given it. So that opponent can choose to give it back, but they also can decide not to. Also after the orignal opponent that it was givens turn finished it then could attack the person playing it as thier commander and still does commander damage as well.

It can get confusing but per rule 108.3. The owner of a card in the game is the player who started the game with it in their deck. That's not a characteristic that can change during the game.

Control and ownership are not the same thing, so even when someone else has control of a card, when it dies it still goes back to the owners graveyard. :)

Slicer's ability says the other player gains control until end of turn. During the cleanup step, end of turn effects end, so slicer returns to his owners control. Then the next upkeep, the player who controls slicer (the owner) gets to chose who borrows him for the turn.@@afifthofjackgaming

Slicer is an awful deck, it's like a scourge on the format imo. Like I get cEDH is about being competitive and winning, but the deck benefits from intentionally ruining other players game experience, I tried the deck this week at my local weekly cEDH tournament and one round I killed a player before they had a turn, the second round I killed a player and they got just one turn... I won the event, but I didn't feel good about it or enjoy it so I immediately retired the deck.
