Mono Lake, an Unusual Lake Along Route 395
A gem along Route 395 in California, Mono Lake is an ancient and very unusual lake. It looks like something from another planet. Mono Lake is believed to be one of the oldest lakes in North America with an age of somewhere between 750,000 to 3 million years old. It covers an area of roughly 45,133 acres and has a maximum depth of 158 feet. It is also almost three times as salty as the ocean.

We always love shooting sunsets there! We will be there the 27th of June to photograph the lake and into Yosemite...so glad to see the vegetation is growing back after the fire.

Great job sharing this place! We went here a few years ago, but it was hot and our old black Lab was having a hard time understanding why we would take her to a lake on a hot day and not let her swim ๐คฃ (awww sweet dog - we miss her). I would love to spend a few hours here next time! Except replacement Lab will want to swim too...

I was there a few years ago. Read a sign that people brought water to add to lake trying to save it
