This fascinating tour takes you deep into the mountains & jungles of The Dominican Republic to a tropical land where you will come into contact with thousands of wild squirrel monkeys. I recommend this tour for all ages, as it's extremely fun & educational! The first part of the tour takes you through a coconut house where they show you the daily lives of the Dominican natives and how they grow and primitively (by hand) make their own food, such as; Coffee, cocoa, vanilla, coconut butter, etc. You also get to sample, taste, and purchase some of these goodies, that are freshly made right in front of you. The next part of the tour is a short walk down a paved path to 'Monkeyland.' (As a precaution, there are several stairs and steep trails throughout this tour, so I would not recommend this for the handicap or the use of any baby strollers.) The safari bus will offer everyone some cold bottled water from a cooler during transportation, but there are no food or snacks offered until you get to a small gift shop at Monkeyland that has small snack bags of chips for purchase. Also, we were told this was a half day excursion, but it turned into a full day because the safari truck stopped at several other resorts to pick up & drop off other guests/ passengers. The amount of time this tour takes all depends on which hotel you stay at and what succession in line you get picked up & dropped off. We were the first to get picked up & the last to be dropped off, in which case, (for us), this tour was a long day riding on a bumpy open air safari truck. It took us approximately 2 hours to get to Monkeyland (2 - 3 hours there) then about 2 hours to get back to our resort (because of all the stops.) Please keep this in mind when bringing small children, as we noticed children were getting very antsy (anxious to see monkeys) during the first part of the one hour tour. Also keep in mind, there are no speed limits in The Dominican Republic & no seat belts required on the safari truck, so be prepared for a few winding & bending twists & turns up & down the mountains. All in all, this was THE BEST excursion we’ve ever been on in Punta Cana and it was definitely worth the long bumpy ride! We would absolutely go again in a heartbeat!
