Monkey Pox:Kisoro district starts screening at the borders

The Kisoro district Health department has embarked on vigilance in the prevention of Monkey pox, an outbreak disease in South Kivu, DRC. Hand washing facilities have been put in place especially in areas near Bunagana border.
Monkeypox is a viral illness that can be transmitted from animals to humans and has the potential to cause outbreaks if not effectively controlled.
Given the proximity of Kisoro district to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where cases of monkeypox have been reported, the risk of transmission across borders has left residents in deep fear
The Kisoro district Assistant District Health Officer, Dr Nick Muneza said they have embarked on Screening individuals entering Uganda through the border a proactive step in detecting potential cases early, isolating infected individuals, and implementing appropriate public health interventions to prevent the spread of the disease within the community.
Johnson Ngomanziza lc1 of Busigyi in Busanza subcounty appealed the governments of Uganda and the DRC to work together in fighting monkeypox
He added that their effort will echo the importance of cross-border cooperation, information sharing, and joint strategies to address public health threats that transcend national boundaries.
