They ask Nesmith, who's your favorite Monkee, he immediately says "Peter." In an interview on June 6 2019 Mike says they never liked each other but kept it cordial. Mike said despite that, he cried when Peter died.

I saw that interview as well. I don't think they got along well, but still loved each other. I think he was being sarcastic when he said Peter. Peter was my favorite though.

mike could be a hothead and i sense he had longstanding conflict with peter. i have wondered if it might partly be due to them being the two true musicians of the band and maybe they pitted themselves against each other in some ways

I bought Micky's autobiography about a year ago. One of the first things he writes about is the relationship between Mike and Peter. He said when the band was trying to decide on a particular sound/genre/style, the two had completely different ideas. They would spend hours debating or trying to convince the other person. So when Peter quit Micky said that he thought Mike was probably relieved. Micky also described the four as "like siblings." He said they loved eachother, hated eachother;all of the emotions that siblings feel. I find it odd that if you look at interviews on KZread or photos of the four, Mike and Peter are often next to eachother. I would think that that wouldn't happen if the problem was serious. When Peter died, there seems to be several responses from Mike. There's the interview he and Micky did in Australia where he said they didn't get along. There's a KZread video Mike did that doesn't seem as harsh. But he also commented elsewhere calling Peter a "brother in arms" and saying "take flight my brother." I think Micky was right; siblings to the end.

Mike got so handsome in middle age. I thought he was way too skinny when he started out. His hair is so much better, too. Quite a hunk here, but I have to say Peter is my favorite.

I dont think Mike was being sarcastic when he said Peter's his favourite Monkee. I get the feeling that this was a point in time where they really genuinely liked each other. It seems their relationship had a lot of ups and downs, but they didnt always dislike each other. Maybe Mike was partly joking when he said Peter, but with the way Peter reacted I think it was a sincere moment.

No. This was in 1989 when they got their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Justus was in 1996.
