Superboy is probably my favorite character in Young Justice. Don’t know why though. I guess it’s because of the tough guy attitude. He’s grown a lot in Season 3.

What I love most about Keith David is that there’s power in his voice, not just his acting. His voice has the same iconic power in his voice as Goku does when he screams for more Super Sayian power. Except Keith doesn’t need to scream his lungs out. Just a whisper of his iconic voice is enough to send shivers down your spine!

If this was any other enemy, I would attribute it to the Worf Effect. However, this is *Mongul* we are talking about. This guy could give Darkseid a run for his money. He's strong and invulnerable enough to trade blows with Superman. Case in point here, the whole team can't even put a dent in him, much less put up a real fight. Being voiced by actor Keith David also helps. He was Goliath, Spawn, The Arbiter (Thel Vadam) and David Anderson (Mass Effect).

+NicholasGeschke He's not actually that powerful. Superman beat him in two punches even while being controlled by Grodd, so he felt no pain. You can make the argument that Grodd isn't as skilled a fighter or whatever, but Superman still crippled him enough that Grodd couldn't control his body after two punches. Yes we get it, Superman's literally invincible when he actually tries in a fight, but that's not the point. I actually wonder how strong Superboy is(I haven't watched much of the show), as he couldn't even come close to doing minimal damage to him and a Superman who wasn't even trying to fight Mongul(he was angry at Luthor) put him down in two punches. Darkseid is far more powerful, as even an angry Superman had a little trouble beating him(Darkseid put up a decent fight against a REALLY angry, no holds barred Superman, and Mongul was brutally crushed by a distracted, but still angry Superman).

+David Bruder Yeah, that was a stupid fucking showing, wasn't it? That show (Public Enemies) just patted Superman on the back all the way through, making him take out Mongul and even Captain Atom without much problem. Cap A is actually a lot more powerful than Supes, and even back then, he at least should have put up more of a fight. Also, Darkseid won vs Superman. Saved by Luthor. Just as it should be. Darkseid is more of a Justice League villain, than he is a Superman villain. Pointless if one character can solo. Would be like if Thor could man-handle Thanos no problem. What would be the fucking point of the Avengers?

As mongul can't fly and doesn't seem to have enhanced focused abilities (frost breath from just breathing cool air, heat vision just from glaring, super hearing, etc) Also he's definitely not *as* strong as a kryptonian considering superman does outmatch him strength wise to an extent? What if mongul's race had like... An older weaker red sun while krypton had a much younger one! I'm not super keen on the fictional astro logistics but that's just my interpretation xD.

@AssassinAcademy I dont think you need your planet exploding to get "kryptonite" of other planets, considering in "Superman Unleashed" or "unchained" (a comic from 2012 I think) batman makes a kryptonite like substance for another alien called Wraith who had the same basic power set as superman due to absorbing yellow sun radiation, just that wraith had many more years of experience than superman at the time. Also red sun lasers and the like have quickly damaged superman and it really depends on the writer if it quickly depowers him on others he can crash through a red sun and keep fighting

Mongul’s “Smells like victory” line might be a reference to the Deadpool Game, where Deadpool cooks 154 pancakes and says the “Smells like victory line”, also because Superboy’s voice actor, Nolan North, voiced Deadpool himself in the game.

It's a reference to "Apocalypse Now" when after dropping napalm on a Vietnamese village the Sergeant says, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning! Smells like . . . victory!"

Warworld is the next DC movie, but I wonder if there is going to be a sort of ending to the tomorrow verse, just like the apocalypse war movie. Maybe Zero Hour or something.

I love the musical score that accompanies this scene. It's so deeply menacing, so perfect.

A rocket launcher exploded at point blank range of a human being with no power..... The human being faints from exhaustion.

DAMN, Mongul owned them like a boss. Wish they had more seasons of YJ

The 1 thing I hate about this being cancelled (as well as the comics I think), is that we never get an explanation as to why Mongul said "You think you're the only one whose from the red sun?" Does this mean he also gets powers as well? And are there other aliens that get super strength under yellow sun?

sorry for replying to a 5 month old post. but i interprent Mongul's words in an other way. He means he battled yellow sun powered beings before and so his warworld is powered by red light. Denying people like Super Boy the power to beat him.

no it just means that species that where born under a red sun (which is rare but not uncommon) are physical Superior to other species. The hole Yellow sun thing is a pretty much a strict kryptonien thing. Also there are some species that are heavily affected by there distance to the source as Genesis and Apokolips are...and in some ver. of the dc verse the earth too but i don´t know if that was red conned or not...

ouroborosi The creator of the serious has stated that Mongul also gets a power boost from a yellow sun. He also mentioned he's strong without it. Essentially stupid if you ask me. The yellow sun gives him a boost for no reason. Not like the comic book version is like that. And unlike Superman and other Kryptonians who are more or less human without yellow sun, Mongul is still strong without it. He just gets stronger. No reason to add that to his character.

Too bad the rest of the Young Justice weren’t there. 4 definitely isn’t gonna stop Mongul.

You'd think Wolfs teeth would have broke on Mongul's super nova resisting skin.

It was, they were all bodied, the only reason they beat him is because the War World got screwed with which dazed Mongul long enough for them to take him down.

Holy COW these guys were in WAY over their heads with Mongul.

They had zero chance against mongul. He's way too powerful.

IMO they weren’t trying to sound tough it’s a simple fact that the were some of the few heroes that were actually able to battle him so who else could they send. I really wish Superboy had all of his brothers traits tho then it would have been a real interesting fight just fighting a younger Superman with less experience pretty much

Always wondered why Mongul didn't have an army accompanying, then again, he controls a fucking planet that can shoot weapons at other planets and he's stronger than Superman. He is an army lmao
