I'm glad Hoshoryu finally won a tournament. He has been very consistent and deserved the promotion as well.
10:07 I cried so much seeing Hoshoryu cry. He’s usually so stoic. It was so refreshing to see him break down just a little bit. Much deserved. What a champion you are.
Been watching Hoshoryu for a whle now. Really glad to see him make it to the rank of Ozeki. Maybe this time next year we can hope he can be Yokozuna.
Another great Mongolian wrestler is the making and Hoshoryu is his name.🏆👏
Hakuoho looking at hoshoryus face smiling like here we are 🙂
He threw Asanoyama like a sack of potatoes. A thing of beauty.

It went to a torinaoshi, and he hip tossed the opposition just like he did to Asanoyama. Ever since then, I've been a hardcore fan of Golden Boy. The man means business!!!

Wow! His technique is SO solid. It's very refreshing to see a Rikishi not only use brute force and muscle, but textbook maneuvers as well. That was a treat.

Agreed! Apparently he did jujitsu before sumo. It’s amazing to see what a well rounded rikishi he is because of it. You never know what he’s going to do. That Asanoyama is a great example, even seeing it again for the second time in this video it caught me off guard.

Congrats to Hoshoryu on the win and promotion to Ozeki! He's been a long time favorite of mine. I love his intensity and drive. You can tell that he puts everything into each match. It was moving to see his emotions come out after the playoff victory. Very strong fighting spirit. I hope he will continue onto many championships and go on a Yokozuna run in 2024!
followed hoshoryu for many bashos now, so happy to see him become ozeki. Finally!
Wow, sumo is getting incredibly exciting with so many young prospects. Was worried after Hakuho retirement, the greatest sports man alive.

He always comes back better when he gets knocked down. It's been a thrill to watch him improve over the past couple years.
May I suggest an ongoing series about sumo's various outliers? Wrestlers that were either notable for their sheer size, or wrestlers that went against the traditional conventions of what makes a successful rikishi and how they overcame said obstacles. Absolute units like Konishiki who fought their way to ozeki and the challenges he faced being the first foreigner to achieve the rank, or smaller rikishi like Takanoyama (who got me into sumo) or more recently Enho. Sumo is a sport rooted in such tradition and heritage with such an emphasis being put on stringent uniform training, which makes it all the more intriguing when outliers appear. It would be neat to see them highlighted in some way.
I adore him and i hope that he will get all the great things he deserves❤❤❤
A star finally rises to shine more brightly. So very pleased he's finally made the Ozeki rank. He's going all the way to the top!
He deserves it! Well done and we look forward to watching him! ❤
He's been my favorite since I first started watching Sumo 3 or 4 years ago. Hope he can reach the top of the mountain.

So, what's the point if there's no way for western audience to watch full tournaments legally? As you're an official rep of the japanese sumo association which this channel is, can you shed some light on this? What's going on?
Why are there no foreigners among the gyogi?
@rantanen1
11 ай бұрын
Just like everything in Sumo, people tend to get into it very very young, and the gyojis join and are part of a stable just the same as the wrestlers and are ranked. Foreigners move to Japan to be sumo wrestlers, but I don't think many are interested in moving to Japan at an early age and starting from the bottom to be a gyoji, nor do people get scouted by coaches to become gyoji either. I don't really think there is much appeal in moving to Japan as a teenager to try to be a gyoji, there also isn't that many of them. Stables have an average of one gyoji, some have a couple and some have none.
I love Hoshoryu's style of sumo and I hope he has great success, but the replays clearly show that he touched the ground before Tobizaru on the first day. If the match had been awarded accurately, Hoshoryu wouldn't have been eligible for a playoff against Hokutofuji and he wouldn't have had enough wins to make Ozeki. I hope he performs well in the next basho and shows that he just got the promotion a little early. It still sucks for Hokutofuji to have his rightful championship stolen from him by a bad call, though.
@jimtroyan3458
11 ай бұрын
This is wrong; judges correctly determined that Tobizaru was in an unrecoverable position before Hoshoryu's fingernail hit the clay. Would be ridiculous to lose a match that way. Good thing the judges were on their game.
