Happy Monday! No buy 2024 is going pretty well! I just have so much in my stash to use up. It has not been easy when Sew Yeah has an amazing collection on sale. 😮 I have a lot of projects that need finished up. I don’t have the patience for some projects and started new ones. Thanks for a great chat, have a great week!

I am still in no-buy July and it’s even my birthday month!! In January I was out after 2 whole days, but I’m confident I’m going to make it. I was even in Fabricland last week and only walked out with a 102” tape measure despite seeing the cutest dot fabric line.

All of my quilts are made for family and friends. If the quilt is made of blocks I just make an extra one and right on it with a fine point sharpie, I press under the edges and whip stitch it on the back lower corner.

I have had a total fail at no-buy July. I just ordered 9 meters of wide backing that was on a fantastic sale. I usually have to pay $35/meter Canadian$, and this was on sale for $15.79 Cdn per meter. It was a no-brainer at that much of a reduction! I've been cleaning up my sewing space too this week. And, planning to jail all my projects in my upstairs quilt room, and only allow one project in my office at once, to aim to get these things fully finished, and lower the distractions that take me from thing to thing.

Good morning ☕ Wonderful chat, very informative 😊 I've had no problem with the "no buy July" honestly can't remember the last time I purchased anything or even been in my studio. I've hit all time low due to stress and it's kept me in a dark cave.. after 3 months of caring for 1 of our sick kitty we helped her to the Rainbow Bridge 1 week ago. I'm finally moving about the house, so much has fallen behind! I'm ashamed to say I've not really watched any of your videos in a while due to all of life's events, hopefully I'll be turned around very soon!! Have a great week!!!❤😊

Most importantly, I love your shirt! The colors are gorgeous.❤ I have been thinking about the no buy months. I have my State of Maine shop hop in April and September I have the New England hop. July is my birthday month and I celebrate my birthdays with friends and family shop hopping! So I will do no buy November and no buy March! Thanks for the inspiration! Oh, I use to spend thousands on the shop hops on fabrics and notions, but now I buy a pattern at the first shop and purchase fabric for it at each shop, once I have all of my fabric I will buy a mini charm pack, a fat quarter or something of that value to support the shops. Maybe, I should do 3 no buy months.

Hi Sheri, still doing good on no-buy July. Thanks for addressing my question about the row quilting. You’re right, lots of people have different opinions. I have tried it both ways and not always happy how they turn out. Maybe practice makes perfect. Regarding Sandra’s question about how much yardage is needed, I have a small book that I bought from Amazon called ‘No Math Quilt Charts & Formulas. If I think of it in the morning, I’ll put a picture of the cover in the Facebook group. This book has helped me countless times when I have been trying to figure out if I have enough fabric for the project I’m planning.

Enjoyed the video and your new studio look! Hope Blue is OK. I have a Boston Terrier who keeps me company in my sewing area. Loved your journal idea ... it will keep all my sewing projects in one place. I like to start things like that at the beginning of the year so will start that in 2025. Currently have been adding what I want to work on as a "ToDo" in my Franklin DayTimer. I like your idea better. xox My "garden" are all the plants on my lanai ... decorative plants and herbs. 🙂

I usually make my quilt and then measure my quilt for my back fabric because then I can decide on the colors that would match. I also have sometimes bought a large cut of fabric that I saw and liked and then bought coordinating fabric for the front. I have an embroidery machine and have made regular labels and I’ve purchased online some labels just in case I’m running tight on time. I have labeled all my quilts and it seems everyone I’ve made them for have like that.

It is getting more and more difficult to garden each year. The weather changes are making it hard. Here in the Panhandle of Texas we are going to be 104 today! Tomatoes won't set blooms in that kind of heat. My green beans don't like this much heat either. Potatoes are almost done but not sure if I will have a full garden anymore. I may just grow flowers. Anxious to see your quilt on Friday. Not doing well on No Buy July, maybe will have to pick another month! MSQ had a good deal on 108 backing and one was a tone on tone white that I thought would be great for a background instead of a backing,

The yardage for a quilt: Maybe you could find a similar pattern or one that is a similar or same size and looks to have the same number of fabrics or background (As Sherri was saying, just look at it for a percentage an look at other quilt pattern's colors and see what that pattern called for) and base your fabric yardage off of that? Not speaking from experience just think what I would try.
