Moms Spaghetti was gross! So I fixed it.

It’s time to get this rig ready for some winter use! I swap on some different tires, add some new vintage looking LED headlights, a little storage, and tackle the biggest problem that I was dancing around…. Mouse nest nastiness.

Funny you did this. A few months ago I got into my wife’s two year old Nissan Frontier, and as you said, it smelled horrible. When I opened up the blower and heater, it was so full I don’t know how the blower was running. They transplanted a moving blanket in the garage to the truck’s ductwork. Found a total of two adult and probably a dozen baby dead mice. Pulled it all apart, cleaned it up and smells nice and fresh now.

Glad you’re putting something back into the truck as far as heat. One can off-road without heat. My concern was no defrost. Being a guy who lived many years up in the northwest I was concerned for safety reasons. My 61 Willis had two heaters similar to your Mardene and I never had issues. In fact, quite often it was almost too hot.

Love this truck Dave! I had my 1997 OBS F250 burn the cab and engine bay from a nest in the heater box. I was buying it back from a guy and he started it up and it caught fire while he was inside getting the title. When I got there it was out, but the dash, windshield, and heater were all burned up. It almost burned his building down as the wiring for the shifter interlock burned and he couldn't move it away from the building. He had to beat it out with his shirt!

Always anxious for the next video and tips and tricks. Thanks Dave. I have used Vintage Air heaters in a couple of projects. They are reasonable, have floor, defrost, or mix, 3 speed fans. They also pull inside air but when it is in a soft top...no worries. In my Willy's, I just ran the defroster hoses up the front of the dash and attached the vent ends to the roll cage cross member with Velcro. That way they can be removed easily in the summer.

I like this truck. I like that it is different. Jeeps are great but variety is the spice of life. I think you'll definitely need to hook up that defroster. I know when we get a cold rain it is almost inevitable that the inside of my windshield fogs no matter what I drive. Seem like you were just trying to get it functional for this trip so mission accomplished there. Without A/C I would have it pull air in from the outside permanently. I find this help keep my vehicles more comfortable. Just need some 1/4" screen over the opening to keep critters out. That's more of a luxury, though.

For the ducting you can get peheater hose since its easy to make bends or even fit something not perfect round. I used it on my Datsun 620 after moving the firewall back for a sbc.The heater box moved so the stock hoses no longer reached.

I'm not sure if it will matter with the temperatures that you will see there, but generally for windshield defrosting/defogging you need fresh outside air. Recirculating air from in the cab doesn't work to keep the windows clear because it's not dry enough. Hope this helps!

Nice headlights! I was trying to make Sylvania Silverstar’s work in my CJ. They burned out way too often, so I went with some Hella H4’s. The Hella lights were way better. I had my KC’s wired so if I engaged them, they would only come on with High beams (still useful) when I figured out that wiring trick, I also did my reverse flood so it would come on only in reverse, with high beams on. Relays opened up all sorts of options when I figured out how to use them. I bet those leds draw a lot less than my H4’s. When they die I may opt for them.
