momondo - The DNA Journey

We asked 67 people from all over the world to take a DNA test. It turns out they have much more in common with other nationalities than they thought ...
It’s easy to think there are more things dividing us than uniting us. But we actually have much more in common with other nationalities than you’d think.
At momondo we believe that everybody should be able to travel the world, to meet other people, and experience other cultures and religions. Travel opens our minds: when we experience something different, we begin to see things differently. Share this video, and help us spread the word - and open our world.

    1) Everyone is so unrealistically close-minded at the start, 2) everyone gets a complete 180 degree surprise from the results, 3) everyone gets overly emotional by the end. Feels like a poorly written movie.

I, too, found myself moved and touched by their reactions. There is so much distrust and hate and fear in this world. The power of discovering how related we all are can be transformative - if we let it in. Akin to the first picture of our earth from space, the "blue marble" bringing home that we are all in this together. Love transforms and unites. Fear distances and polarizes. Which do we choose to be a part of?

+Usman Majeed about 200,000 yearsWhile our ancestors have been around for about six million years, the modern form of humans only evolved about 200,000 years ago. Civilization as we know it is only about 6,000 years old, and industrialization started in the earnest only in the 1800s. So yes they have.

According to their website, they hired extras for some of the people behind the group, and 10 of the 67 participants have some kind of acting experience (though this included being minor extras). They further admit to some retakes, but claim the initial reaction from opening the envelope is not staged, and to make sure they captured it properly they used 4 cameras. The spitting in tube bit is staged in the sense that that was not the test they used.

This is so incredible I've always wanted to do something like this and know where I really truly come from. And it is touching how emotional this is even I teared up. Imagine how much hate could evaporate if everyone knew and instead of being asked where they were from or ethnicity o race and saying one or two things and it being done with, you pulled out a paper and listed a ton of places. It would just be one more thing in common with someone else. And not to mention that they get to travel, which is the sole dream of many. Very lucky people.

TLDR: their biased not racist, but this videos still probably fake to be fair they never said they were flat out racists, they said they were biased. All individuals can be biased about plenty of things, the people shown in the video were biased (not racist) against certain races for whatever reason. Maybe they don't like another countries sports team or got injured by a specific group of individuals? Who knows? As for this being video being faked, probably. As already stated plenty of times this is a TRAVEL company. Its so much cheaper to pay actors then to fly a bunch of individuals across the world, preform DNA tests and then give them free trips in their origin countries.

I keep reading in the comments that this is all fake. As someone who works in advertising and has done several of these 'interview' videos, I'm pretty sure some of these interviewees are real people and some are actors because that's usually what we do. It's almost always 50/50 like that. We'll usually use the reactions of real people because theirs is more genuine, and then use the actors' lines as padding (the British skinhead guy is definitely an actor).

Even if you forget about the linguistic or cultural difference, you still can not ignore that people have different views, character and goals in life. Not to mention such things as civil wars or a banal political confrontation. People are really the one, but at the same time it's foolish to think that people are a monotonous mass that can be attracted to a common denominator.

Well, these kind of tests do exist and there are plenty of specialised companies doing this (including this one, I guess) for around 200 Euros or so.

They are not all actors and none of them were instructed in what to say or do. Its was their own words and feelings, when they saw the dna results.

This is the complete truth. I was born and raised in Russia, and at 33 I realized that this is not my country, my heart called me to Spain, I began to notice that I have a lot in common with Germany, Japan, Spain, although I have no relatives there. But I always knew in my heart that my blood has ancestors who were born in these countries, there is a feeling inside of me. Now I live in my beloved country of Spain, and in my city near inhabited by people from more than 120 countries from all over the world, and I like that all are equal and there is no nationalism. And I always say that my homeland - is the planet earth.
