She’s not making inedible food. That’s how our grandparents and great grandparents cooked during the depression and wartimes. Some people never evolved and just always cooked that way up until this day, and they also taught their children to, which perpetuates the cycle. And it still Continues. You have people today who still wash their chicken before they cook it. That’s wrong. You have people who still think you have to cook the shit out of pork and there can’t be any pink. That’s wrong. People who think any color on their beef will get sick and the red juice is blood. That’s all so so wrong🤷‍♂️ Everything she makes is legitimate, she just doesn’t execute it as well as others. Ham braised in Coca Cola with is excellent. The coke adds some spices and sugar as well as the acid tenderizes the meat. The pineapple adds to it. Her execution is lacking but it’s all culinarily sound.🤷‍♂️ making a cake with sprite adds your liquid and carbonation (baking soda) as well as the sugar. That’s what our grannies used to do when rationing came around. They could get lots of coke and sprite, but not granulated sugar.

I started off cooking just like this Mama. I grew up just north of Seattle and my parents did not cook. We had the same meals every single week of my entire life. Breakfast for dinner (with milk and cheese eggs- like eggs leaking milk and oil), hamburger gravy of mashed potatoes, pizza on Tuesdays and left overs on Wednesday. Dark meat, pork chops on the bone, drained in oil with frozen mixed veggies and burnt rice, salads (iceberg lettuce with an egg and two slices of chopped ham- you know, the budding lunch meats 😂)... we only had butter on thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter at grannies- I learned how to cook after getting pregnant with twins and spending 17 weeks and 2 days on bed rest in the hospital. I read all of my own and the hospitals books and ended up watching the food network channel for weeks- I then began experimenting and trying new recipes- fast forward 16 years and we moved to NW Arkansas to homestead! I'm not just cooking but growing the foods and raising up the food!! I love my new found love for food and cooking! Did you know there's hundreds and hundreds of different peppers and tomato varieties??

Love your comment bcz it’s the same for me. My mom cooked very little (she hated cooking) & her sig. other cooked but very limited, never used any seasonings but salt & pepper & stuck to few dishes. Mainly fried potatoes, easy mac n cheese, soups, grilled cheese, easy dishes like that. So I learned to cook later in life. Won’t say I’m an excellent cook just okay enough to get by. 🧑🏻‍🍳

Have your mom make Mississippi pot roast. It’s only 5 ingredients in the crockpot and you can serve it over noodles, mashed potatoes, rice or by itself. Here’s the directions: 3-4 pounds of chuck roast 1 stick of salted butter 1 jar of pepperoncinis 1 dry packet of au jus gravy mix 1 dry packet of ranch dressing mix Throw it all in the crockpot in that order and cook on high for 5 hours or low for 8 hours. It’s really good and super easy to make!

If we can get you to rinse the meat and add just the basic seasoning, salt and pepper, it'll be a huge upgrade to those taste buds. Good job! 😊

I agree with the seasoning part cuz it absolutely kills me when she doesn’t season it but you’re absolutely not supposed to wash meat.. that doesn’t remove any bacteria etc, and it only contaminates everything else.. cooking it kills any germs or bacteria present *I get a lot of people swear by it, but working in food service for years you learn that washing it is an unsafe food handling practice and if you did that in a restaurant you could get shut down by the health dept (If you wanna soak & brine it I get that, but washing it is unnecessary and unsanitary a lot of times)

@@colourfulsouls there’s all slime on meat. i wash all meat with the exception of ground meat. contamination where? that’s why u clean up after washing it. when u cook something like pork, it’s a must to wash it or else your pork will smell like the farm and that’s disgusting. wash ur meat.

@@colourfulsoulsdon’t bother. The people who think you have to wash your meats refuse to be convinced otherwise, and it’s just frustrating trying to argue with a brick wall who won’t accept logic.
