You can also solve this problem using the conservation of the velocity of the center of gravity. In this particular problem, the initial center of gravity will be at a point in the 3rd (or 2nd) quadrant, on a straight line connecting m1 and m2, but also on a straight line connecting the origin. Notice that the COG point will always be at the fraction m1/(m2+m1) of the total shrinking distance between m1 and m2, away from m2. If you connect this initial center of gravity point with a straight line that passes through the origin, the COG point will always have the exact same velocity vector on this line, before and after the collision, passing right through the origin and into the 1st (or 4th) quadrants. It is very interesting (at least to me) to solve these problems with both conservation laws.

Wait i have a question, what sort of whiteboard is used in this video?
I wish you completed the answer. I understand literally everything up until what you showed, but am struggling with actually solving those angles
Very good explanation :)
I have a specific question of the part when you asked "your student" about P2ix. I just don't understand why it is zero. Thank you.
Hello matt I m your fan way of explaination is good
Hes a fking genius
very nice i think the negative sign is due to momentum is a vector quantity as it have both magnitude(size)and direction .i am i clear?.
Where do you order a board like that? I basically a glass but how?
Excellent 👌

Sorry I have a question... What if the car don't stick instead collides and travels seperatly to two different directions????...... Am asking this cause your formular for collision on the x axis is contradicting my text book and google tbh

_lil_ Tempo, Great question. You present a much more complicated problem. Not only do you have to conserve momentum, you have to conserve mechanical energy as well. I wish u could be my professor
So good

@@yoprofmatt you're talented, professor... That's true that you cannot write right to left but your explanations are so fantastic that my physics practice gets a thrust. I'm from India and a physics lover. By profession I'm a Statistician (Integrated M.Stat degree holder) but by nature I realize myself as a physics enthusiast. I love to spend my leisure with physics problems and teaching. Here in India it's difficult nowadays to go with passion but I want to contribute in physics (may be it'll be tiny but...) as much as I can. Even I have some elementary research works on Theoretical mathematics. I found your videos here in KZread, I'm thankful to you ,my passion is still inside me.
