I would just like to share something a year since I've completed this test as an update. I want to hand back my first, shred the certificate and retract my title as an 'advanced rider'. I simply don't want it. I embarked on this IAM journey to try and encourage younger riders to take up training that might hopefully save their life. Whilst I enjoyed the training and the test itself, whether or not you think I deserved the first/pass - it's irrelevant to me. The outcome could have been a fail, and that's fine. I would have shared it anyway because my channel is about reality, not curated perfection. I am not driven by the ego side of being an 'advanced rider' with a holier than thou attitude. I just wanted to maybe learn something useful... pass or fail. The abuse... from... OTHER advanced riders... mainly National Observers has been frequent and condescending since I posted my test online. I honestly wish I'd never bothered. For all the effort that went into the filming and editing and subtitling all the episodes, it was not worth it for it all to be undone by this unpleasant and very vocal boys brigade. I say that because if I was considering doing IAM as a random person and came across the nasty comments that I've faced since doing the test... It would put me right off wanting to get involved. I often wonder if they give the wheeliers, the reckless riders and the speeders of KZread the same energy? Hmmm, who knows. Thanks for listening to my TED TALK 🤣

I can't help but think you are being subjected to a big helping of mysoginy. I doubt this abuse would be happening if you were a middle aged, middle class man. (Feel free to correct me if female IAM observers have been weighing in, I've not seen you share any) I find it disgusting in all honesty. Please keep making the content, it's great 👍

@@djkitchen982 I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I personally think a lot of it is caused by misogyny (some of them might not realise they’re doing it) but it is misogyny all the same. I’m fortunate that the National Observers in the group I passed my test with were brilliant. They might pass a few friendly pointers on a ride out, but that’s where it stops. None of this patronising misogynistic nonsense that seems to grace social media these days. I opened my copy of the monthly IAM magazine yesterday.. and the fact that there’s an ad/article called something like ‘why have a stair lift when you can have a real lift?’ says it all really. Maybe some of the old guard feel threatened by younger riders, especially female ones. The IAM really need to clean up their image if they want to attract and retain a younger membership. Otherwise the IAM will be no more in a couple of decades time.

That fact you've been made to feel this way for essentially trying to make yourself a better rider and spread awareness for safer riding, is utter horsesh*t. The other advanced riders who should be advocates for these qualifications have treated it as a level of elitism and in turn, put many people off doing the qualification themselves. Myself included. Bit of an own goal... Keep it up Kate, I'll continue doing wheelies on GS's to keep some of those 🔔 ends busy! ❤❤

Hi Kate. I'm an IAM rider. I'm sorry you have faced criticism from other IAM members. They should be ashamed of themselves. We are trying to move away from an elitist attitude and put the bed the stereotype of it's full of old blokes in high Vis. I hope you got something out of doing your test, and from what I can see you fully deserve your f1rst. We should be encouraging people to become safer, better riders. Not slating them. Well done!

Kate that First is yours form your hard work and great riding, some people on the net really have no sense of the pain they inflict. Keep making the vids they are great :)
Well done Kate, i hope the guy who said you are too small and weak to ride a big bike is eating his own head, that was a great report and it shows that you are the real deal when riding👍👍👍😎

If you want to see this test from the examiners perspective, you can check out John's vlog here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fWSHuK2LddjNc5M.html
Well done Kate 👍 It’s great that a high profile motorcycle vlogger has taken us all through the process of advanced rider training and how we all benefit and become better safer riders. I believe you’ll encourage more riders to take advanced training. You have definitely saved lives by your actions. Well done again. 😊👍
Absolutely fantastic ride Kate. Love your blogs and this journey to gain the IAM was very welcoming. Keep doing what you do. You are brill at it. Happy 2023
Really enjoyed this series! Well done for the First, awesome achievement. I've been thinking about doing this (after 38 years of riding, didn't want to rush into it) and this just gave me the push to make it a goal in 2023.
Top result Kate and a great series. I booked my IAM course at the NEC Bike show and hoping to start it in around March time. The weather looked amazing when you did your lessons fingers crossed I get the same. Once again well done.
Well done Kate totally deserved you are a very good rider and your confidence and ability to read the road is just excellent, no doubt some of this comes from your dad, just loved seeing you and him ride together. Stay safe Kate.
Fantastic Kate and well done getting a richly deserved first. I did mine five years ago and it totally modified the way I ride, giving such confidence as you read the road ahead so differently. The test is a extremely nerve wracking experience but gives us the chance to demonstrate all we have learned. When I have fewer time constraints I will be looking into doing my observer training, it’s not only amazing to develop but to also pass on those skills. Congrats Kate.
Well done Kate. What you have learned and achieved with IAM will help to keep you safe on our roads, it’s game changer. Congratulations 😊
Congratulations on the 1st. It’s always a pleasure to see someone make a commitment to learn and implement Roadcraft with precision. A very well done!
Well done Kate and as you said at the end I would highly recommend every motorcyclist does some extra training . I did the same course as yourself and thoroughly recommend it . The whole process was great fun and I learned so much . Well done again and take care .
Just wanted to add my congratulations Kate. Excellent riding throughout it seems…. You set yourself high standards and then go on to attain them. Bloody marvellous x
Absolutely well done Kate. so glad it was blue skies on the test and no rain. This is definitely on my list of things for 2023
Congratulations Kate 🎉 been thinking about doing mine for a good few years but never got round to it. Thank you for the insight as it will give others the kick up the arse to just do it 👍
Congratulations Kate I thoroughly enjoyed watching your videos all the best for 2023
Great job Kate, well done :) I watched your journey through the IAM and was inspired to sign up too. Can't wait to start my first observed ride soon.
Aww well done Kate I’ve watched all of these and so pleased you did it! I thought you would get a First until you did that overtake but you pulled it back and didn’t let it mess your head! It’s a great thing to do and I’m so pleased I did mine. Keep it up 👍🏻
Nice series of videos of your IAM test. Nice work. It was good to watch and hear your comments as well as the walk thru of things after the rides. This is something i do myself, I judge my own riding and how i perform. I have also been riding with friends to see how they are doing it. And being open to give constructive critics and receive constructive critics. For me riding a motorcycle is demanding of the driver and therefore a constant learning experience. We ride with different mental mindsets, weather conditions and different traffic conditions and that is why riding can be challenging sometimes and other times feel like a breeze. Again thanks for sharing your experiences and letting others see how it could be done and what your experience is out of this. Lastly congrats for doing a good job 👍👍
Well done, been watching you and Reg for years. Was a quality ride and vlog from both perspectives.
Congratulations Kate, absolutely brilliant. Look forward to more vlogs.
Well done with your first! I watched your video and seen link to Johns after viewing... I am glad that I watched in this order (pure luck mind!). watching from Johns perspective and it showed me how your perception and commentary amplified things - when following behind, it really was an exemplary effort and not that bad! I was already a subscriber to Johns youtube and I really think his perspective is very grounded and down to earth / realistic and proof was in these two vids.. WELL DONE FOR A REALY FANTASTIC TEST RIDE!
You nailed it Kate, congratz, never doubt you you are a class rider with a certificate to prove it. Big thumbs up for this one. Waiting for the next 🥂👍👍🇳🇱
Congratulations Kate 😃 that's a great start to 2023, Happy new year 🏍 xx
Many congratulations Kate. Inspirational stuff. Well done.
I really enjoyed this series. I plan on doing my test this spring. This was really informative. Thanks.
Well done Kate - you made that look easy. Great start for the New Year!
Well done Kate, I was genuinely gutted for ya when you thought you'd failed 😉 .... talk about pressure 😬 on an exam and trying to do a vlog 🫣 ... awsome 👌.... Thanks for sharing such a great insite into the IAM training course 😊👍x
Hi Kate, thanks to you and John for all the videos for your IAM training and test. I've found it inspring enough to start my IAM training (fingers crossed i can be as good as you on test). Also enjoying the channel 👍
Kate, the master of the gate passed ;) well done you. happy new year, & look forward to another year of the gate masters videos ;)
Congratulations Kate! I knew you would be fine in the test. The IAM trying is really good and I would recommend advanced training to all riders
It was good to see the nerves of the situation and the heightened sense of failure when something doesn't quite go to plan, it makes you acutely aware of every little thing, but to the observer the perspective is different, as shown in the result. I thought you did well to keep it together when you thought you had failed and it was great to see the process being shown following first hand experience rather than hearsay as well.
Felt like I was doing my driving test all over again, thumping heart and my head swivelling all over the place doing life saver checks.😩 great biog. Well done Kate.
Hi kate firstly congratulations on passing your iam . I stumbled across your video whilst looking at adanced riding i watched johns video then yours and i am well impressed with your riding skills . Im thinking of getting a bike again after being away for 6years and watching your ride have inspired me so much and hopefully when i do get one im going to do the advanced course like you . Once again thank you so much for posting your video and i have subscribed to your channel and looking forward to watching more of your content . By the way thats a beautiful bike you have stay safe all the best for your future
8:57 great sequence, super editing to show it all. The look ahead. The look through the corner. Road positioning, the right distance to be ready to overtake. The overtake. The left lifesaver, then the move back in to your lane. So nice. Well done on the pass. It's got me interested in doing it now!

Hi Kate, we met at the London bike show. Your IAM series was really helpful thank you. I took and passed my IAM test this week. Inspired by you. Keep doing what you do Kate! Jennifer x
Congratulations Kate, a superb set of videos that will hopefully encourage others 👏 Especially in Somerset 😉
Well done Kate! 👏🏻Hopefully will be doing mine shortly 😉
Well done Kate great riding. Like you i thought you failed overtaking that car on the hatch markings. You kept it together and passed with flying colours Heres to a very happy new year to you and hope its a very happy and sucessful year 👍👍🎊🎉🏍🏍
Well done Kate, That's why we love you, you're so honest and relatable. It takes a lot of guts to put this sort of video out. The trouble is I think you're becoming better than most of your audience at riding now. :)
Well done Kate , bet your very proud of yourself , bet dad over the moon. Love your videos keep them rolling on.
Great video, well done Kate..... I had watched 'Reg Locals' video before this one.. well done on your First.
Fantastic, very well done, your great Kate , Happy New Year 🎉
I never had a doubt, congratulations 🎊 👏 happy new year and enjoy the rest of your day 🤙🤟
Congratulations on your F1rst. I must confess, this is the first I have ever watched on your channel. As am IAM Roadsmart Associate driver, I watch the Reg Local channel and so watched his assessment of your ride, before seeing it from your point of view. It is interesting that at no point in his commentary did he think that your overtake was a fail. I am now going to watch more of your output to see the journey to getting to your test.
Fantastic. I watched the examiner's video first because I've been following the channel, having finally got the courage to book the IAM course which I start next month (it's only taken me 40 years but hey, better late than never). It was so interesting to watch the test from both the examiners and the driver's perpective (or rider in this case), and I was honestly nervous for you! So pleased to see you get the first place ranking, it has inspired me and I'm sure many others too. Brilliant.
What a fantastic video series on the IAM training, Kate. Thank you so much for sharing that. I was pleased to see you share your test as well and was papping it for you when you thought you'd failed, bless you. I started my IAM training in August 2022 and will be heading for test this Spring (fingers crossed), so it was great to be able to see your progression, learn some things and genuinely feel some of the emotions, having experienced similar things myself. Massive congratulations on your pass and your first - very well deserved. What I like is that you're not arrogant, always willing to learn and are a bloody good rider. Don't be too hard on yourself, though. I appreciated the collaboration with Reg Local - what a privilege to be able to see both sides of the coin! Keep the content coming. :) Tom (Moray, Scotland).

Hi Kate! Congratulations with passing the IAM advanced ride test with an excellent result! Well done!
Concrats, Kate🤩 You were great. You are a good biker. So good luck in the future👍😊
Excellent Kate. This is one in the eye for any doubters and cynics. So very pleased for you.
Well that kept me on the edge of my seat, well done and congrats Kate, well earned. You were certain you had failed but you didn't. Have faith in your ability. Just hope I can do the same...
oh Jesus Kate , you're so great and so natural in showing what you're going through at that test. It was a big support for my test on my KTM1290 ( in the rain and cold): I kept saying " Kate could do it, Kate could do it!" So I passed with your invisilble help! Thanks!!! Carry on, success!!!

Love a KTM im gonna do same on mine soon, i also appreciate this ladys honest vlog. Its not about being clever its about applying what you have learnt, well done to both of you
GG! - very well done Kate. Great little series watching you go through this :)
Well done Kate. Never in any doubt as far as I’m concerned as just like everything else you do, you put your heart and soul into it. You only doubted yourself due to test nerves and that should never go away. Your examiner was right the perfect ride does not happen. I try to be perfect every day when riding and every day I fail but the issue is confidence and competence in equal measure. Once again, well done. See you soon 👍👍👍
Congratulations well done. As you say it is a lot of hard work both on and off the bike. You must feel like Queen of the road.
So chuffed for you. Well deserved and so inspiring. 🎉
Nice one, Kate, well done. My heart sank when I saw your overtake on the hatch marks and you thought you'd failed, but so pleased for you for the pass!

Very well done Kate! There's nothing worse than that feeling of dread when you think you've thrown it away. I see 'Reg Local' was your examiner - I sometimes watch some of his vids.
I was 100% confident you would pass, but with a first, that really is icing the cake!! Well done! 👏
Brilliant, well done girl....well deserved and over the moon for you👏
Very well done Kate I enjoyed watching that. I did say in my last comment that you ride brilliantly well done again 👍👍👍
Congratulations & well done, great achievement 👍 Very brave to film the whole of your test, and to pair it with the Examiners video too. Top content all round, nice one

I think having a spoken commentary for the benefit of her video and knowing its being recorded actually helped her riding. Going forward, this'll be a useful set of videos for others to look at if they're considering it.
Ah brilliant! I’ve been watching your videos for awhile and found them very engaging! I spend a lot of time up north for work delivering jam 🤣 being a GS owner myself would love to venture up there 👌 Being very eager to do something like the IAM training, you have given me more understanding on how it is done, So thankyou and keep up the great work! Well done 💪🤘
Well done Kate, congrats on the F1rst! Everyone should be encouraged to take some/more training, we never stop learning and improving.
Congratulations Kate. That has to feel really good getting a First. You’re a Excellent Rider and I had no doubts you would Pass the Test. I could see where the Mirror Awareness Part would really be good to be a Safer Rider. Also, when your Riding in Groups you really need to have that 360 Degree Awareness. Thanks for making these Videos. I was actually Nervous with you. Huge Salute from Texas.👍❤️😁
A big well done Kate, keep up the fantastic videos and thank you.

A well deserved pass, well done Kate and happy new year
Well done crocodile. Impressive ride, well worth the First. Just a little hard on yourself but good that you continued with the system after your internal wobble. It was nice to meet you in person at J&S. Buff.
Congratulations Kate, you must be well chuffed.........looks like a very worth while course!
Excellent, well done Kate. I did wonder as you went for that overtake, but it clearly didn’t worry John as much as it did you. I convinced myself that I’d failed my IAM test about mid way through, so maybe we inflate little mistakes to seem bigger than they are. Again, congratulations.
Congratulations 👏 welcome to the F1rst club ❤ Great to watch yours and Johns video of the test

Well done Kate, and a happy new year.
Congratulations on the pass, Kate. And we’ll done for keeping your head and continuing to do your best, even though you thought you’d just flunked it. It ain’t over till it’s over 👍
Impressed with your shoulder checks...well done Kate.
Well done Kate. It’s a great feeling knowing you’ve passed, even better with a F1rst. I didn’t know I’d got a F1rst until my certificate came through. Ride safe.
The Grey Mare.. great pub and good food. I really enjoyed that as I know most of those roads. Beautiful day for the ride too. Having passed the IAM test myself I was a bit surprised you thought you had failed on the A6 overtake (although watching through a camera is not ideal) as the overtake appeared to be Safe, Legal, Appropriate and caused no poor Perception in eyes of beholders. Congrats and great vlog. Hopefully it will encourage others to also do the IAM. Its 100% made be a better rider and overall more flowing and progressive in traffic.
Congratulations Kate, looked a good smooth ride. I took my test in Suffolk about 1990 ish, as you say definitely worth it plus good way of meeting motorcycling friends. As you say any training is worth it if it makes you safer, well done Late🏍😂🇸🇪🥂
You drove the bike nice kate on the test i believe in anything that can help keep you safe on the road as we are vulnerable keep the good work up

It was good to watch Reg Local and then yours, great seeing both perspectives. Great to hear you doing a running commentary, I did exactly the same when I did mine and it just keeps you more alert and not go into star gazing mode….. Think the best part was when you thought you had failed on that overtake, as after that (with nothing to loose) you seemed to relax and just ride. Congratulations 👍🏼

Well done Kate on achieving a First. I was back to bikes in 2021 after a 36 year break ( I am 68 yrs old) and took and passed my I.A.M test in June 2022. I am currently looking at doing a Motorcycle Roadcraft course online Cost £25 + vat and you can do it over a year. ( I can send you the link if you want) I am also considering doing an observer course in 2023. I have seen your channel a few times but now subscribed. Take care and ride safe.
Well done. Great news. Hope TMF is watching this. He’s a lot to learn 🤣🤣
Well done Kate. Great moment to share🎉

Hey up Kate, well done on the FIRST, I know how hard this is to get being a IAM observer and also got the same result as you did, it is worth doing, as they say every day is a school day, well done , ride safe Simon B 👍
Well done Kate, I did mine a few months ago, I passed but never got a 1st so very well done you, I didn't think what you done was a fail as far as I can make out in the video, you made progress safely and you worried yourself too much lol, but look how it turned out, give yourself a pat on the back, congratulations 👍
Hi Kate, Congratulations and well done.👍👍 Just remember don't "scoop" the bend.
Congratulations, I think we were all nervous for you and with you remembering what it’s like on test. Well done.
