I watched a video once where a guy was talking about how Thanksgiving is his favorite holiday because theres no stress just eating good food and enjoying others company. I had to laugh because clearly he never helped with the meal prep or cleaning the five billion dishes 😂

Is it weird that I actually like the high intensity rapid-pace of Thanksgiving prep and cooking? 😅 Yeah it's stressful, but it can also be fun! Guess it depends on who's helping. Cooking with my parents for Thanksgiving is good times for us. We blast 80s music and yell instructions at each other over it, occasionally singing along. I'm usually on sides while my mom does dessert, and my dad just chops whatever we tell him to chop 😂 Thanksgiving is a holiday that I thought was okay as a kid, but I love it as an adult. Always so satisfying to see all our hard work laid out and being enjoyed by loved ones.

This depends on the family. There was a small army to feed on my mother's side, so every family claimed dishes to supply. The turkey showed up cooked and just needed to be sliced. Casseroles and rolls just needed a warm oven, and lima beans/rice were the only things completely cooked there. And all the uncles/aunts descended on the kitchen/dining room to get things ready. The only people that sat around and waited were the grandkids, grandparents, and a great uncle. On my father's side my grandmother reigned supreme in the kitchen and the aunts would assist, but since everyone deferred to grandma there was no infighting in the kitchen. Husband's side of the family does potluck or the host handling the majority of the food. On my side of the family, my father reigns supreme in the kitchen and only accepts help from people that "know how to stay out of the way".

thats how it was for us too. My grandma only cooked the bird and the ham (we always made both) and everyone else brought another part of the overall meal, there were easily 20 adults and half again as many kids, especially when my cousins were born. Its crazy how much history we saw every year around that table, four generations of stories, constant laughing until your face hurt lol. I didn't appreciate it enough when I was a kid. Now my own parents are the elders and all of my grandparents and great grandparents are long gone, 20 years now or more. Time flies...

@@Effedup On my mother's side of the family, I always sat at one of the "kid" tables, even as an adult. This was because the main table was full and in order to gain a spot at it someone else would have to not be there. The last time we had Christmas there after my grandfather had passed and before my grandmother moved out we put a table in the foyer because we couldn't fit enough seats in the dining room. Passing food around to everyone was complicated but we made it work. So many memories...

My 1st thanksgiving after i got married was one ro remember. I took yams & marshmallows for the dinner. I had it wrapped in cellophane & aluminum foil. My brother took it & placed it in the oven without me knowing. When we served dinner, my dad said "are we getting extra fiber or what in the yams?" My brother didn't check & placed the whole dish in a nice hot oven - melted the cellophane to the marshmallows! 😮 My family has never let me forget it (even though it was my brother's fault! - of course the baby of the family don't do anything wrong 🤬)

Thank God I never had a Thanksgiving like this. I am always in charge of the dessert spread and I ALWAYS get that done the night beforehand - partly to save time the day of, partly to free up the oven the day of for other stuff. I am usually up until like 3-4 AM finishing the dessert spread, so mom gets up early to start everything else. She slow bakes the turkey all day and uses the stove range to boil the potatoes and yams, and uses the hand mixer to mash the potatoes. She will do her thing with the yams a different way, but she never needs the oven for it. The vegetables (the mixed peas, corn, and carrots), we can boil them on the stove if there is room, or wait until dinner is like 5 minutes away if the stove is full and microwave them in the bag for 5 1/2 - 6 minutes and they come out perfect (trust me ladies, this is one of the best Thanksgiving hacks possible). The dinner rolls, we can put in for the appropriate time after the turkey is done because the rolls don't take long while the turkey is being carved and everything else is being put into serving bowls.

At our house I do about 90% of the cooking. I don't stress until about an hour before everyone shows up. Bonus for me, everyone else is cleaning the house, setting up the table and does the dishes and clean up while i get to sit and watch my first Christmas movie of the season. Love Thanksgiving!

I sincerely hope everyone knows this, but please never deep fry a frozen turkey. That explosion is barely an exaggeration.

this is definitely gonna be thanksgiving this year for my family since we're all going to my grandma's and we haven't done a big thanksgiving in YEARS. ahahahaha. (but i will say one year it was just my dad and i and we had it all scheduled down to the minute and then the turkey was done 90 minutes earlier than we'd planned so we went into panic mode trying to get everything else ready AHAHAHAHHAHAHA)

Hubby knows Thanksgiving is a 48 hour food prep marathon and he has to run interference by keeping everyone out of my kitchen and no one eats at home the day before. The kitchen is spoken for and prepped for Thanksgiving morning with a written timed schedule of dishes coming and going in/out of the oven.😂
