My first car was a 49 Merc deluxe coupe. I bought it for $50, replaced a blown head gasket and drove it for many years. In 1984 I sold it because things were tight, and we needed to money not my old car. Fast forward to 1998 and I saw it sitting by the side of the road. It no longer ran and was pretty haggard looking. I bought it off the guy for $200. Spent 1 year rebuilding the flat head V-8, tranny and fixing her up and the old girl now runs and drives better than ever. She sits right next to my 33 Ford Opera Coupe and my 70 Super Cuda.

Had a '69 Dart sedan when I was a kid and in college, then sold it in '79 for a Honda Accord hatchback. My Dart (lime green) only had the 273 V8 3 spd auto 2bbl because my Dad was too cheap to get anything more exciting. The car DID handle like crap in its stock configuration, but that was mitigated with an aftermarket rear sway bar from JC Whitney , and in 1972, a set of Michelin steel belted radials which were very expensive and handled WAY better than the 4-ply or 2+2 fiberglass/bias ply available at the time. It was a decent utilitarian daily driver, but didn't inspire any fun that the guys talk about when they restore the cars on the channel. I do remember being able to tell the difference between the '67, 68, 'and 69 Darts by the side marker and tail-lamps, as they were all unique. in '70 and later they used a standardized side marker lamp/reflector, so it was a bit tougher to tell the difference.

I work for a marina in Westchester County, NY. We used to manufacture wooden boats called Tobin Craft back in the early 1960s. Though from a separate family, I grew up restoring cars with my grandfather who won several awards over the years with rather mundane cars that were restored THAT well. This is what led me to the marina and the family that runs it. It also leads me to apply that same motivation to preserve these old things within the recreational marine industry. We happen to be a 60+ year Mercury Marine (Kiekaeffer) dealer. We currently own the last Tobin Craft 24' Skiff made in 1961, powered by a Graymarine/Steudebaker 327 ci. dual side-draft V-8. I'm trying to lead a charge to start restoring these boats from this era at my marina, even if at a slow pace. I did a big engine re-seal and "tidy" on a 1970 Century ski boat last year that ran a Chrysler Marine 318, but it had some work done... it was bored, stroked, and blueprinted to 410 ci., yet held a smooth idle and sounded (as well as looked) bone stock. Cruised at about 40 mph turning 3600 rpm... sounded like a symphony, felt like a time machine... Man, I love this stuff... all of it, whether it rolls or floats...

I lived in Rochester Minnesota 81-95. In the fall of 1994 I had a garage sale and as I was packing up an old lady drove up in a medium green 2 door Plymouth Fury III, vinyl top, 7,000 miles. I’m a Ford nut and yet I found myself literally starting to drool looking at this car. She lived in a high rise condo in downtown Rochester. I have no idea what engine was in it. I’m hoping that it eventually got into the hands of someone who preserved it.

back in the late 70's early 80's I had a 68 Barracuda Formula S 340 4 speed convertible that i had bought from the original owner. It had a lot of cool options, except manual drums although eventually I found the 4-piston small diameter disc brakes for it. That car got a lot attention, even before the muscle car thing took off in the 80's. I was in college tho, so ended selling it to a guy in the WPC club...i'm sure its been well taken care of. Somewhere in all my crap i have the build sheet for it...not too long ago I found the original Formula S badges i had replaced with NOS back in the day. Would love to see it again someday...

I was lucky enough to have some of these cars ( 1971 dodge demon ) for under 2k in the early 90s, and a buick GN around 1998. But now, the newer cars outperforms these easily. Even non sport model. They were cool when you could have them for cheap, but when I see someone paying 100k and more for them, I can't help but thinking it's ridiculous.

From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any more...

Do they ever restore this car? Or is it just rehashed clickbait over and over for money? I've kept an eye out for years now and still nothing...this car is the whole reason I started watching the show...WTH?

I still have my 1970 Dart 340 Swinger that I bought from the original owner in 1983. The 340 Dart that is featured in this episode is more interesting to me than even the Hemi Coronet. I do understand that the owner might not have the cash to go full speed on the restoration.

I just couldn't get into this show when it started. Just seemed to be a lot of guys sitting at benches talking and trying to be comedians. Too much fannying around and very little cars being put together
