The mother of Declan Jay Bugal died shortly after giving birth to what doctors at the Medical Center of Aurora, Colorado, described as a 7-pound, 4-ounce-miracle.

    I was in this life and death situation. I chose my daughter to live. But God saved us both. I had pre eclampsia. My daughter was born at 28 weeks. She weighed only 2.8 ozs. She wasn't breathing. I had emergency c section. Today she is A healthy 15 yr old. She was in the NICU for almost 5 months. She is truly a miracle and an angel giving to me by God.

    Why don't you praise the doctors, nurses, medical staff and pharmacists who developed medication to save the both of you? Most likely both you and your daughter would have died without modern medical technology regardless of "faith".

    Well it's her decision. Good for her. However, let us not shame mothers who would do otherwise. Not everything is the same case. Some women won't leave her dependent, already existing children who needs her dearly, her husband, her father, mother, siblings and all those who love her. Would you want to die if your death will ruin the lives of those who needed you? Wanting to save yourself is not a bad, deplorable decision. Sometimes, it's the best thing you can do.

He chose my Mother because there were 3 children and they couldn't go without a Mother. Both my Mother andy half sister survived. It was the only smart and compassionate thing he ever did.

    Thank you, Mrs. Bugal. Your sacrifice for your son is the greatest thing you could of ever done for him. Her sacrifice saved the life of another is what a mother is meant to do. She alone knew the value that went into this little boy and knew to give him his chance at life. One song comes to mind, "I'll see you again" by Westlife.

    With my 2nd son I was told I had a rare disorder it affected my bones,organs and skin. They told me I more then likely would die if I continue on my pregnancy with no treatment. If I had treatment we both would die. I never will get I told my dad n started making my will for my children as requested. To me my child's life meant more then mine. If this disorder could take my life at any time I felt like at least I'm leaving my other son with part of me they both would have for ever. I'm blessed I'm one of three in medical books were both me and my child survived. My child has major life threatening issues but he's almost 5 now n I'm happy I made the choice to fight. I'm blessed I'm still here n happy my daughter will be born any day now n yet again I'm told I'm lucky if I live past this . To me I have faith we will be fine. I personally could never pick me life over my child's I wouldn't n couldn't live with my self. This lady was strong n her family wS blessed I know if I was her I die with a smile know I g my baby was going to be ok n to me that's what matters

    What a caring Mom. Moms are always the best. My mom had lost her vision speech most of motor abilities and senses to cancer just few hours before she left she clutched one of my aunt's forefinger with her left hand. She was communicating just with her touch and we all knew what she was trying to say she was telling her to take care of her son when she's gone. She chugged her whole life for me I love her and miss her forever

    This was birth story as well, my mother had eclampsia, I'm 28 years old now, I never had interest connecting with her as I never knew what it's like to have a mother but now that I am a mother myself, i've been longing to connect with her, it's been a very difficult life, I've had a void and distaste for life but as I welcome my little boy, I have come to realize the depth of love and sacrifice my mother had for me all along. My heart is full knowing my life was worth dying for. I have found a new found freedom and deep acceptance for myself.

    What she did was AMAZING and she is no doubt a hero, but I would’ve chosen the other option. Childhood is not the same without a mother and she was also a beloved loved one to many. I know it might sound inconsiderate and selfish to some but that’s my view on it. She’s still extremely selfless and amazing for doing what she did though.

  • @NC-ns5se

    @NC-ns5se

    TRG doesn’t sound selfish at all. While it’s horribly painful to lose a child, pain like you wouldn’t imagine, a mother dying would leave so many other people without a loved one. Plus choosing your own life would leave you with so much survivors guilt, I’d imagine it’s almost not worth living so it’s not exactly a “selfish” choice. Either choice you lose greatly.

    Actually I think losing a child is harder than losing a parent. A child is part of you. Someday you grow up and have your own child and that child becomes your life. Some mothers wouldn't be able to live with that decision. I guess some would. But you can't say it would be better for your child to die so they won't be left without a mother.

  • @TwistedSecrets777

    +MsFlamingFlamer I do agree with you to a point but a mothers Love is by far the strongest Love of all and in a moment of choice some women will choose their child over them because thats what their heart says is right.....and its like giving your life to save your child this woman made the Ultimate Sacrifice for her baby and in doing so took that child's place just as I would do for anyone because of my faith in God (but not though a worldly religion since i believe you can't put a worldly label on a Perfect father. Since I was little I've had the same dream over and over again of pushing a mother and her daughter out of the way of a car and getting hit (And killed) for doing so and people have told me i should let it happen that its meant to happen....if I can stop it i will even if i die for them thats what my heart says is right. The reason I can't agree that she should have given up the child and saved her own life is because that bond can't be destroyed even by death.

My daughter was born around 2 weeks before your son. I had amniotic fluid embolism too. Because of this, I had strokes as well. I can say I'm really a lucky one coz I'm still alive and my baby girl too. If the doctor would have asked me, I will choose to save the little one too instead of myself. For some parents and mothers, the loss of a child is unbearable. Also couples that lose a child are more likely to divorce. Losing her child could've made her suicidal. It's not easy to move past that. Yes the child never "lived" at that point but they existed inside of that mother for 9 months. Growing and moving. She felt him and he felt her. They were connected. She would've felt the loss if that connection for the rest of her life. Where as the baby won't realize the lost of the connection, but the absence of. She made the right decision because it was right for her. She knew what she could handle and her husband agreed.

    No, it doesn't. I'm sure another option would've been to perform the c-section without anesthesia kicked in yet. I delivered my daughter with a failed epidural and felt everything until she was already born. It was at that point that they knocked me out. If they quickly put the epidural catheter in and didn't wait for it to kick in...maybe...? I don't want my comment to harm the family. She made a choice I don't think I could've made in that situation. I have other children to care for, so I'd rather have a c-section without any pain meds vs giving my life. That being said, I doubt they even offered that option as the situation did not allow the time to consider it.

    I was born at 23 weeks and weighed 1 pound 3 ounces. The doctors would always say I wouldn’t live or walk or talk. Today I’m 16 weigh 87 pounds and can do anything a normal kid can do. My retinas were attached when I was born then they were reattached. I’m visually impaired but that doesn’t stop me to live a normal life. I also have mitochondrial enzyme disease so I get tired easily when running or exercising. I also have acid reflex and when I eat too much I start coughing that’s why I don’t eat that much. Everyone that I know has supported me and helped me when I need it I’m so thankful for that. Idk if I should’ve put this here but I thought I should tell my story.

    I think it is always better to save first the life from the mother. Why? 1. The mother is a person - she has a consciousness. The unborn is not a person - it has no consciousness. 2. If the unborn dies, only the mother and father are sad. But if the mother dies, a lot of people (her parents, her man/woman, her brothers and sisters, maybe her other children, her friends and so on) are sad.

    Of course the unborn is not a full developed person like the adult female. So first save the pregnant woman an than the unborn. If you can only save one of the two then save the woman. It is really a pity that nature made pregnancy and birth so hard (risky and painfull) for the female Homos Sapiens.

    So now two children have to grow up without their mother, and a man has to raise them alone (single dads have even fewer relationship and support options than single moms) instead of (at worst) them just getting over losing a child they never met? Hell, for all they know, the kid might even have made it if she stayed awake. How is making two children motherless, and a man lose his wife the right choice?

  • @laurareinaaaa

    NothingIsSacred you're acting like making the decision to lose their child isn't hard. Yes it'll be tough but she loved her son so much that she was willing to give her life for him and if her husband truly loves her he will respect the decision she made for her son. The husband seems to have a lot of support from family and really loves his children and they'll be able to go through it even if it's hard.

    Laura Reina No, I'm acting like choosing to kill the mother for the unborn baby was a STUPID and BAD decision, nothing about "hard" or "easy". They would have been able to "go through" the loss of the fetus, "even if it's hard" too. Instead the moron has made two children motherless, and caused a man to become a widower. She wrecked their entire family for a total stranger, one who will ALSO have to suffer the loss of her, and grow up knowing if he was never born, she would be alive. There needs to be a word for "selfish on behalf of someone else" because that's what this woman was, and that's what she did. I'm so sick of this female-supremacist "happy wife happy life" bullshit. It's a completely asinine notion that a man must show his love by being a mindless slave to his wife's wishes and whims. That's not what a loving relationship is. A loving relationship involves mutual respect, mutual decisions and compromise on BOTH sides.

    NothingIsSacred It's not. fetus it's a baby, a baby that has been a part of their lives for 9 months. A baby that they've already named, a baby that they have a bunch of stuff for, a baby that they've been talking to and saying I love you to. This isn't like a losing a baby when you didn't know you were pregnant or something, they were asked to make a decision between possible losing one of two things they already love. Overall it was the mothers life, the mother who grew that baby, and the mother who made that decision while the father agreed, Get your judgemental and ignorant ass out of here

    My grandmother found out she had cancer and then a month later found out she was pregnant. The doctors thought they could work around the baby but it soon became obvious that the cancer was aggressive and spreading. They wanted her to give up the baby so they could continue to operate. She knew she would not survive and so she gave her life for her child. She had my aunt and then passed away 2 1/2 months later at the age of 35. 50 years later, my aunt has had a happy life married to a great man and they had wonderful children who have gone on to do great things. My grandmother has lived on through her sacrifice and through her deeds. Even now, if people knew her, they quickly and warmly regale their experiences. She even has two great-grandchildren named after her. I know little Declan will have a similar experience. It takes a special woman to be that selfless.

The doctor mentions, that the mother could have stayed awake during the operation but that doesn't change the outcome. So it was a tragedy but not a deliberate choice.

  • @racheltidwell772

    @racheltidwell772

    you have doubts? well that means 0. Being put under was a dangerous choice. They told her that she may never wake up. But it was safest for the baby because they could get him out faster with her asleep. If they had waited for an epidural to take effect he would've had massive organ failure. She was put to sleep knowing that she may never wake back up to hold her son. And that's exactly what happened. But she wanted him to have a chance no matter what it cost her. Look up the disorder. You might actually understand what they are talking about.

  • @Celisar1

    @Celisar1

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Rachel Tidwell Being an M.D. it’s not necessary for me to look it up, but you should consider doing so. An embolism is life threatening and has to be treated as soon as possible, therefore the general anesthesia was the better choice to save the mother. With a life threatening condition there is always the risk to die, or in other words “not to wake up again”. With an epidural she would have remained conscious, but it would have diminished her chances of survival. Hope that clarifies it for you. And please don’t assume next time everybody with a different opinion is ignorant, because in the end it’s you then.
