Molisch's Test for Carbohydrates 2.0

Ғылым және технология

Molisch's Test is used to identify a Carbohydrate.
5 drop of Molisch Reagent (alpha-naphthol) was added to 2 mL of each sample.
2 mL of Sulfuric Acid was gently added to each test tube to layer the 2 solutions.
It is important not to mix the 2 solutions as the chemical reaction will occur at the interface.
The Sulfuric Acid converted the Carbohydrate into an aldehyde, which will then react with the alpha-naphthol to create a purple or violet colour.
Purple colour change = Carbohydrate
Negative Control = Distilled Water
Positive Control = 1 % (w/v) Glucose
Unknowns Tested = 13
Alphabetical list of Samples all 1% (w/v) or (v/v):
Acetic Acid, Albumin, Arabinose, Fructose, Galactose, Glucose, Glycerol, Glycogen, Lactose, Maltose, Starch, Sucrose, Xylose

Dazzle, you state you need this information for your assignment? The purpose of this video was as a virtual assignment prior to students doing this themselves in the lab. By giving you the identity of each test tube, I would in affect be helping you to cheat on your assignment. This request is highly unprofessional. Please take time to make your observations and to independently attempt to identify each one. If you make a mistake, that is fine. It would be a good learning opportunity. By giving you the answers, you will learn nothing.
