Want to see a very dirty and moldy dehumidifier? This unit from my workshop began to have trouble removing moisture from the air after about 12 years of use. I cleaned the filter regularly but that didn't prevent the unit from collecting a lot of dust on it's coils. That dust and hair eventually clogged the dehumidifier and then became extremely moldy. There was also a slime present that I believe is created by colonies of bacteria feeding on the dirt. I think this slime is generally referred to as zooglea. It was really bad. I cleaned the dehumidifier in another video linked below and then began using a pre-filter material designed for A/C window units on the air inlet to help prevent this mold in the future.
