Moiré Kit
Ғылым және технология
This pack comprises an in depth investigation into the fascinating properties of Moirés, or interference patterns.
There are 7 sets of screens (18 x 12.5 cm, printed on photographic film, although one set of screens is double size) each demonstrating a different effect. One of the most amazing effects is where the Moiré pattern becomes magnified, when you rotate one screen against the other.
Another amazing effect is when you slide the top screen sideways, and part of the image moves left, and other parts move in the opposite direction!

I found this channel by accident while Googling something else, and I just spent an hour and a half watching this guy play with toys.

I found this channel through this video on May 19th 2013, three days after my birthday (on which date this was uploaded). Fate brought us together...
i actually respect this man. he is a very bright old chap isnt he :)
This guy is mesmerising.... I think it takes is back to a time of a show about showcasing a product with no pretention👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
He has been collecting toys for nearly 30 years, and he has travelled all around the world, visiting toy fairs and also other toy and puzzle enthusiasts.
Tim is like the grandpa you just can't wait to visit
It is an LP-1218 Light Panel. I think they are still available, although we bought it a few years ago, and there are probably newer models around.
I want Moire of this!
Way cool. They remind me of demo effects, like on the C64 and Amiga.
This is how to keep a stoned person busy for hours.

Tim feels his life is so busy as it is, there is no spare time for anything more. Also he is in the Grand Illusions office at least once a week, so if there is a link or website he wants to see, he uses one of the computers in the office to view it. And people know they can e-mail Tim via Grand Illusions.
I'd love to see more of this kit.
Mostly the toys are from Tim's collection, and are not for sale. This is one of the small number that we do sell.

does it come with a light box like the one used in the video
This is quite amazing.
HBO's old movie intro that ran for several decades used this phenomenon to produce the starburst shot in the beginning. Layers on layers of acetate rotating and counter-rotating. There's even a documentary of the making of the intro...lol
The Bright Eyes album "Cassadaga" comes in a CD sleeve with patterns like this with a little decoder window thing so you can read it. The CD itself wasn't that good, but the package was entrancing.

I like how you answer this question personally every time (no sarcasm).
2:00 You can see how it works just looking at the video. One sheet has small slits. The other has compressed hearts and spades. The slits get a little bit of each heart and spade, each one slightly moved relative to a given heart or spade. So they look much wider than they are printed. It's essentially Nyquist aliasing, where your sampling frequency is too low.

Beautiful mathematics of frequency and interference

Where can we buy this kit? I looked on the website but didn't see it.
Very interesting!
very cool
The first pattern, I'm instantly reminded of Subete ga F ni Naru.
Superb.
What happens when you overlap more than one of them?

A sneak peak at an idea I had: Moiré kit on anime, possibly as a gift. It was going to be a surprise but I've got some others in mind. A fun project.
Mesmerizing.
I can't find this kit on your website. I get zero matches for "moire", and don't see it in optical illusions or optical toys.
aka Tim destroys the bitrate
It would be cool if you included links wiyh shops that sell this stuff in the description.
Your voice is so Relaxinggggggggggg
This doesn't have to be polarized light does it?
How do I get the files from this video printed?
3:25 "...wonderful as if you're looking at four dimensional space and time" Is Tim capable of viewing the fourth dimension as an outsider? This explains so much.
I love moirés, I like the ones that look like animals running or gears turning
now this, this is art. I need to get me one of these, that's a whole weekend of fun right there
Amazing.
what about printing these paterns on some transparent paper/ plastic

Technically you can. There's nothing that prevents you from doing it.
I have no idea what's going on
Oh my GOOOOD
That certainly was a grand illusion.
Take out backlight and diffuser films from lcd, supply it with correct voltage, use monitor plastic as housing and cover it with plexiglass. But it is easier said than done. Beware, capacitors can be still charged to very high voltage even if monitor wasnt plugged in for long time. Best for you is to go to computer repair service and they will tell you more how to do it.
Make me feel like i'm at the library researching with the microfiche
What kind of sorcery is this?
And the artist and kit name is?
grand-illusions ... com ... /acatalog/Moire_Kit.html It's shown in all his videos, but they don't put it in the description for some reason.
