History of the Museum: Shiv Rattan Mohatta
In 1927, Shiv Rattan Mohatta, a successful Marwari entrepreneur, commissioned a palatial house in the affluent seaside neighbourhood of Clifton. Mohatta had made his fortune as a ship handler and trader. The architect commissioned for his palace, Ahmed Hussein Agha, was one of the first Muslim architects of India and had come from Jaipur to take up an assignment as chief surveyor for the Karachi Muncipality. Ahmed Hussein Agha designed a number of buildings in Karachi but Mohatta Palace was to prove the coup de maitre of his professional career. Working in a Mughal revival style with a combination of locally available yellow Gizri and pink stone from Jodhpur, he sought to recreate the Anglo Mughal palaces of the Rajput princes.

The Mohatta Palace Museum is a source of pride for the citizens of Karachi as it aspires to become a museum of international standing and a beacon of hope and commitment to the city. None of this would have been possible without the support of the Federal Government, the Government of Sindh and our key donors who share our vision for a symbol of a cultural renaissance in Karachi.
The Mohatta Palace Museum offers a diverse range of activities for both the casual and informed visitor. Families and school children are particularly welcome and tours can be arranged in advance.

Note: The Museum is also closed on certain public holidays. Please telephone the Museum before visiting it on a public holiday. (Timings change in Ramzan.)

I lived near, back end of mohatta palace. Early 1979 and 1980. It was than abondened and desolate place under government custody. I think lt was under some law enforcement agency, they used to bring their prisioners here and interrogate. Screams and cries of prisioners were heard late night hours after 1200 and last till 0400 hrs. Residents believed that the place was haunted but in reality it was torture influcted upon prisioners for confessions. Later residents complained and interrogation centre moved. This was such a nice area and city elite used to frequent. Now the whole old clifton has become shambles and encroached by hoodlums and land grabbers.

yes required permission from management.. they will allow but outside to auditorium... inside not allowed even mobile not allowed inside the Auditorium ....

Bhai mera ak doubt clear ker dena mai yaha visit kerna chahta hu lakin logon sy bhi or social media per bhi mohatta palace k baare mai bohat suna hai k ya jaga bhari hai matlab yaha jinnat or asraat wagera hain yaha log dar bhi jaate hain to aap batayn k aisa hai ya nahi?

brother mai yahan gaya tha or mai without hesitation inside b gaya tha camera allow nahi krty ye log baki mai hr jaga akely visit kiya hai inside ik guide b mila tha mujhy .. so i think mujhy aisa kuch feel nahi hoa . everything was perfect....

@@mrhash_official Seth Kooverji Khimji Lohana Gujarati School (SKKLGS) in Karachi was originally named after a Hindu social worker. But it was renamed Malala Yousafzai Govt Girls Secondary High School in the latest example of conversion of a Hindu institution in Pakistan.

@@RoJosh @Rohit Joshi you must be a wear about that.. after partition .. places and ownership always be changed but in Pakistan it still MOHATA PALACE ... and everyone respect and even we already build and renovate by Sindh government in 1998 again. Even after we can changed the name but these line are just for political reason still both country people love each other.... if something exist people will use it thats why our beloved Qauid and his sister... lived ..
