العفر هم المعافرة وهي بطن من زيد بن كهلان من القحطانية من همدان باليمن راجع (تأريخ بن خلدون، ونهاية الإرب للنووي) وفي معظم البلدان العربية وخاصة في اليمن وشرق السودان يسمونهم بالدناكل نحن نستند على اقوال مؤرخين ثم لماذا هذا التطاول على العرب من قيلك عمر علي فانا لم اتجاوز على الشعب العفاري هناك تشابه في صفات الشعب العفاري مع الشعوب العربية

They aren’t doing it for fun. The neighbors around them specifically Somalis and Tigrayans come into their land, which is the Afar region, and cause harm to them.

I love how close the Afar are to my home state of Wollo, even the Raya man from my hometown are very similar in their behaviours (dancing, grouping together, clothing attire, warrior mentality). To the morons arguing against the Afar ancestry in today's Tigrayans, and Eritreans I kindly suggest that you do some extensive research before you spew your ignorance publicly. Due to the proximity of the Afar to my state, I wouldn't be shocked if I have Afar blood as well.

THERE is no written history of the AFAR people except oral transmission. WHAT is clear however is AFAR are divided into two major groups, Adho (QADO in Afar) hee mara and Asa (Qasa in Afar) Hee mara which means the 'white ones' and the 'red' ones. THE red ones dominating politics in the past and being like prestigious and well respected while the white ones generally considered as lower class by some red clans. THIS leaves us with a question, are they mixed people? the answer is it is possible in that case they could have both cushitic and semitic roots being very close to aksum in the north and bordering Amhara in wallo area, in fact there are many Afar's who live in wallo for decades. many things about them is speculation and I'd rather remain as skeptic since there is no real evidence to their origins.

***** THAT is also speculation, "maybe because of ancient influences in ARABIA." I agree with you it is not possible to use semitic in conjunction with race as biological concept but what I am saying is if we manage to get any evidence in the future they are mixed people then it is possible the two combined and formed the language we see today. EVEN the north and the east of Afar region have different dialects.

Economist Scientist Al Chemist Thanks for your insight. I'm afraid most of what you're saying is conjecture. If you have any archaeological, historical or empirical evidence such as DNA then please provide it. Mind you, there is very little difference between for example the Amhara and Oromo in regards to DNA(www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15845032). The Amhara aren't even a true ethnic group as it is more of a supra-fused one. The Amhara people didn't even refer to themselves as such prior to the late 20th century. It was merely a way for them to refer to their language Amarigna and the people who speak it. Since the Amhara are known as a mixed group of people it's not an ideal comparison. There is some written history of the Afar people; albeit written by others. The earliest confirmed reference was by Ibn Sa'id who mentioned they lived in the general area spanning from Suakin, Sudan and as far south as Zeila in Somalia. The Afar carry the traditions of their ancestors like the Somalis orally. If you take the biblical account seriously you may find examples, but it's difficult to get a clear understanding with parables. There are many different subgroups that exist in within the Oromos, Bejas, Somalis, ect. Why is it hard to understand that the same exists within Afar hierarchy? I'm sure there may be some intermixing between border ethnicities. However, it makes no difference if they are "Semitic or Cushitic" speaking unless you can provide an example to why it would be significant in their origin. Do you subscribe to the Yemeni origin claim? Did you know that some say they are descendants of Noah? Do you think the Asaeemara supposedly came from the highlands to dominate the Adoeemara? The later could possibly be true because the names may refer to the color of the soil they lived on(similar to how the Egyptians called their land Kmt). Only Danakil is where the salt plains exist. The reason why the Afars are associated with Wollo is because of the markets(Dessie) and their tradition as tradesmen. There are Oromos and Agew who live in Wollo too, so who's to say they aren't related to them(Amharas are probably more related to Agew)? Also, the historical region of Wollo was partially absorbed into the Afar region. Don't forget the Raya and Yejju people who the Oromos commonly associate with who now speak Tigrigna and Amarigna(you can form your own conclusion there). Interesting that you refer to Saho. The Erob speak Saho and yet they have some cultural relation to the Tigrai. They even take up similar names. What is your interest in Afar history? Are you an Afar? If I have made any mistake, please correct me. Thanks.
