Mods to my 1987 FXR Low Rider Sport

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A quick rundown of some of the mods I’ve done to my Harley-Davidson FXRS-SP Low Rider Sport. Sorry about the wind noise, tough to avoid in Illinois this time of year. I’m sure I missed a lot of things so feel free to comment any questions!

    You spent a whole lot of money on your up grades ( as did I on my 88 FXRS ) I also replaced motor with 113 ci S&S. then had to go change the main shaft to a spline shaft trany then add Hi performance clutch. The list goes on and on. I think both of us would be lucky if we get half of what we have in them back. However it was a lot of fun building it and I would not have it any other way.

    So I wanted to follow up on this comment even though I realize now it is old. I did some looking into it and yes, the caliper is interchangeable for right and left side. But the way I had it installed on the right was incorrect. The bleeder should have been on top. The way I had it, I’d never truly be able to 100% bleed the brake lines. Thank you so much for pointing this out! I switched the line and the bleeder, as the bleeder bolt and the banjo bolt are the same size, and it’s good to go! I did this on the right side only, as the left side was already correct. Thanks again for pointing that out!

    Great bike! One of the best I have ever seen. The only thing that is not on this bike is a Legend front cartridge. Gold Valve is nice too. I have it on my 2003 Sportster. Just because Legend doesn't fit the length and style.

  • @FNobody

    @FNobody

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@magz7274 I never rode them. But installed it many times. Every owner was really satisfied. Including stunt riders. What I know, is that very easy to become misguided by the fitments list. Some models require longer tubes or different inner bottom cup. The cartridges can be installed in shorter tubes, but they would be much stiffer with short travel. Cartridges should be properly tuned for running weight. Oil volume should be right. Sometimes official guides can include mistakes. Sometimes the bike could have the front fork from another model. If everything is done right, it works great. If you have a part number of your cartridges, check the fitment guide on the Legend site.

    @@FNobody that wasn’t the case with my Low Rider S. Installed properly, by me, in the correct length tubes with the correct cups. Adjusted based on my weight per instructions. Felt like I strapped a jackhammer to my front end. And the rears completely failed and blew out. Legend backed them and sent me new ones, but they’re still no comparison to Racetech for me. But that’s why there are different companies, because everyone has different tastes. I will try Ohlin’s someday I’m sure, but never again Legends.

  • @FNobody

    @@magz7274 WOW! This is actually very interesting information for me because I have the FXLRS in my garage and Legend suspension for the front and rear that has not been installed yet. So next season I'll test it. But as for rear shock, I think it's not a problem of the company, but the construction. Your Legend shocks construction is twin tube, and Race Tech is mono tube.

    It’s a guardian bell, to keep you safe while you ride. Can’t buy one for yourself, has to be given to you by someone else, per tradition. We always referred to them as “Gremlin Bells” because they keep the gremlins away from your bike. Every time it rings a gremlin falls off the bike and goes crashing down to the road. This is where potholes come from 😉
