Mods to get better MPG 2006 Ram 2500 3500 Cummins

My go pro crashed, but I was on a tangent anyways. Hope this helps some people.

    My 07 5.9 megacab got 16 when first purchased (used in 2016). Tuner got me to 17. Lie-o-meter says 19-20 and the wife is happy seeing those numbers, lol. One thing is certain, pull it back to 55-60mph and the mileage jumps.

    I find that cruise control on the freeway at 60-65mph gets my best long distance reading. 24mpg but my 2007 5.9 isn’t tuned and still has CAT CONVERTER and 8 inch lift on 20’s & 37’s

    I was out after you said get a k&N. They may have more filter square inches, but they don't filter as good as many others.

    K&N are junk on Diesel engines. Several manufacturers offer stock replacement filters that dona much better job

    The oiled filters will dust your motor. Just another scam that is well marketed. FYI your truck already has a cold air intake.

    Looking to upgrade my factory turbo to a drop in fleece cheetah. Should i go ahead and upgrade exhaust manifold, charge pipes and downpipe?

    The factory turbo is good to about 550 horse power and spools up fast. Make sure you dont have a boost leaks. That kills power worse than anything else. Put a vice grip on the waste gate hose, remove the cat and mod the air box. All free mods that will get you a ton of power. You cant truly unlock it until you tune it. Tuner. If you want to keep it tame the banks automind 2 is a great box but its limited to 110mph and 3200 rpms. If you want a real tune firepunk makes tune to 2007 and older Cummins. no limits other than your set up. 2006 up efi live. hp tuners for older. The charge pipe, monster ram and most of the exhaust stuff dont help much if at all until you well past 1000hp. The stock muffler sucks the manflo is just as loud and will get about 20hp more maybe. The combo if everything should yield about 500ish hp. You may need an air dog of fass. Get a fuel pressure gage and replace the filter when its idling at less than 15 psi. Head studs are highly recommended. By this time you will probably have killed your trans, but Firepunk, Randies, PDD, Muldoones, WOT, all are known to make stout units. If you want more power you will need to swap injectors and cp3 pump. Hope this is helpful. I get alot of hate for using banks and K$N, but I will walk a lambo. This truck evolved to a 15000HP daily. Its on my new channel cuz this this cant upload vids any more due to my offensive comments.

    @ChannelZeroOne awesome I'll keep that stuff in mind! It's an 06 5.9l with: smarty mm3, suncoast category 3 48re 600whp, fleece lift pump, s&b airbox, and catback. So, I'll make sure to do everything else you mentioned, currently pushing 400whp with 35s on it

    @@austina4677 Remove the cat. I put a magnaflow muffler in its place. The cat will free up a ton of power, but it will make the truck noticeably louder. Used the band style clamps so if you need to put it back on you can. Why you ask me for info if you already did all that.

    @ChannelZeroOne it's still not making crazy power, so I thought you could give me some insight on what else I should do with it, goal is 600 to the wheels since thats what the transmission is rated to handle. My bad, I should of specified what else i had put on it!

    @@austina4677 With said mods you should be faster than 95% of the cars are there. It has to be your tune. Even with stock injectors and a lift pump you should be close to 600.

    I put cetane booster in my fuel just for the h- - - of it. I have seen my mileage go from less than 13 to 16.7 average. Even got 19 once still experimenting with it.

    Cetane works. If you have noisy injectors or a uneven idle you will see a difference. I have found about 4 to 6 ounces to a fill up does the trick for making tired injector work better. I use the power service in the grey bottle. I buy in bulk. $130 for 6 80 ounce bottle on ebay. Hard to find the orginal size container due to shrinkflation. I only use the stuf on tired trucks or for diagnosing injectors. www.ebay.com/itm/225149896397

    @@ChannelZeroOne Running a good diesel additive helps keep injectors. A good additive will have a cetane booster, lubricate injectors. Help will soot build up. Will prevent rust and corrosion. Stabilize fuel. They have a lot of other benefits also. ULSD is hard on the injectors. Not a lot of lubricity. I have rebuilt and fixed thousands of them.

    Whe you said k/n filter I was skeptical about your information you showed the cut stock air box and then said you had 50k into it anyone with 50k under the hood doesn't use kn filters or stock cut airbox maybe not tell such tall tales and you may be able to build a fan base

    Trans alone was 13,500. You are just a brand whore. Thing is all you got is a jeep. Those POS are super cheap. I got one I know. You have no idea how insanely over priced owning one of these trucks is. I out over 700k between all my race trucks.     @@ChannelZeroOne I have 6 diesel trucks in my fleet 3 are less than 5 years old I daily a 1200hp 06 ram have two 7.3 powerstroke super duty trucks my favorite truck I own is a 94 k3500 6.5 turbo diesel I've owned since new I spent more replacing my dpf cleaning systems on my fleet than you spent on your whole build

    @@ChannelZeroOne my trucks are set up to pull heavy 6 horse 27k trailers to Canada im sure you may be able to make it a 1/4 mile but try making 800k with roughly 28k lbs of horse trailer behind it and then come back and talk but your stock airbox with the corner cut off isn't going to make much hp

    I had my 2006 5.9 cummins built back to stock along with a trans rebuild and those two alone were $21K! Not to mention the $25K I paid for the truck!

    Straw man bs right there. 1,275,000 miles on a gas 1500 on a K$N. Like emissions controls there is a point to where it too much and negating any benefits.
