Looks sick! Well done! For those w/o the time, inclination, or equipment for a DIY custom job, Charvel should release a Pro-Mod San Dimas or SoCal natural alder body w/maple or roasted maple neck, something akin to the Govan model but with 22-frets, etc. Seems like the Music Zoo folks and many of us players all love the sound, tone, and texture of natural, oiled bodies, a la that one-time Mahogany Natural Series they did. And Charvel would seem to agree. But when it comes to their production runs, it's mostly tone-killing heavy paint and gloss. DIY is the way to go!

The work you did on this guitar turned out great! And the videos were excellent. I see that you put a two-way toggle switch. I assume that the original push volume pot was not effective for changing the pick ups quickly? Is that why you put the two-way toggle switch?

hey dude. epic vid. ive jjust bought a san dimas and i really cant get on with the heel. just wondering what you did to modify that on yours ?. Eg. did you use the same screw holes in the neck as before even though due to the new angle the screws dont sit flush with the metal plate? Or did you make new holes in the neck at the new angle and fill the old ones in ? Any help would be appreciated as i plan to do it when possible

  • @brutesmagootes3996

I used the same existing holes. Cut the screws to the new lengths and re-countersunk the plate at the new angles so the screws would sit correctly. If you need more details just let me know….

Hey man hope all is well I’m ordering a SD “78” for my Danhenge. I had so many different pups on my list from the BK VHII to the Thornbucker but in the end figured the 78’s fitment should be close, cost saving and reviews seem to reflect a similar “clarity” quality. One question Sir, when you pulled the JB, is was it a regular 4wire? I questioned it since the push selection option has thrown me off on a lot of stuff regarding this guitar. Almost would have been easier to just start a while new one but not cost effective. Yet. Thank you in advance.

@@brutesmagootes3996 I'm really digging it so far. The neck is great and it has a really insane natural resonance and wide open tone. I have an SL3 with a JB and the Charvel just sounds bigger and more dynamic, although I think the SL3 has a more refined feel. I'm going to lightly sand the neck to smooth it out a bit, swap in a screamin demon on the neck, put in a vol pot and reuse the stock space for a 3 way, do the push in arm mod and might tremolo-no it too. I picked it up used and the former owner had clearly set it up so it didn't need a lot of adjustment, but what got me is how naturally resonant it is, it really feels and sounds alive. It's so good i'm a little afraid to mess with it, but I really don't like the push in pot to switch nor the location of it.
