Modernization Complete! New Voices! Westinghouse/Schindler Main Terminal Elevators at Tampa Airport

Well, here's the moment you've all been waiting for! As of Late 2023, the Full & Complete Modernization to All of the Elevators at The Tampa International Airport's Main Terminal/Short Term Garage has OFFICIALLY BEEN COMPLETED!
These elevators were a HUGE part of my childhood, I was only 3 or 4 years old when I first remember riding them, and to come here and not hear the dinner bells, be able to press the Type A/AE Buttons or listen to the Male Voice was definitely really weird and rather depressing, it definitely shows how much things really do change.
On the flip side though, Schindler did an EXCELLENT Job with the Modernization and JUST VERY RECENTLY within the last few months, BRAND NEW Custom Female voices have been added to the elevators! These new voices definitely aren't as nice as the old male voices nor are they nostalgic for obvious reasons, but I'm glad they didn't continue to default to the Generic Schindler voice which these elevators had during the modernization.
The new elevators are also noticeably smoother than the Old elevators, and these even still use analog indicators with the mod!
All in all, Schindler did do a great job with the mod and in its completed state, it looks great, but I will TRULY TRULY miss the original elevators here for reasons I've discussed many times.
For those wondering, unfortunately no parts were saved from these elevators save for a lantern I got and a COP that a former user managed to get but aside from that nothing else was saved despite efforts to get parts from Schindler as well as the Airport by myself and others.
With this all being said, I hope you guys enjoy my FINAL UPDATE on this Modernization featuring ALL FOUR BANKS of elevators here in their full & complete Modernization, and while I will truly miss the originals, I do look forward to what's in store for these in the future.

April 1971-May 2023
Installed in 1971. (Westinghouse Selectomatic Mark IV with Type A/AE Fixtures)
Modernized:
1st Modernization: Circa 2005-2007 (Schindler mod with New Controllers, added fire service, New External indicators & Voices added. Motors, Fixtures, cabs and Lanterns left original.)
Call Stations on floors 1-3 replaced in 2013, Cabs Redone in 2017.
2nd Modernization: 2022-2023 (Schindler 6400 mod with New Motors, New Controllers, MAD BP Fixtures, New Lanterns, New Brailles, New Doors, etc. Cabs left as is from 2017 remodel)

I’m glad I came here at the right time in 2022, when there were some modded and some original. Actually most of them were still original. The westies were definitely fun to ride and i wish i could have ridden them one last time, but the Schindler mod is great!

And after watching some more, i LOVE the new voices. I’m glad they kept the original voice lines, but now it’s a female voice instead of a male voice. That’s a SUPER nice touch
I did saw one of the old call stations on eBay. Someone bought it though.
I gotta say, Schindler definitely hit it out of the park with this mod but the westys will definitely be missed
Floridian Elevators I never knew they played music in an elevator. I wish I could make field recordings of elevators. How did you make it so the wind noise wasn't too strong? As I am sight challenged, I always try to make sure recordings are made of only the sounds that I want to hear. I wanna try doing recordings outside, but I sometimes worry about strong winds distorting the smooth sounds of a recording.
No way, I was at TPA myself today at the same time you posted this! It's too bad these got modded, but I think Schindler did a good job with the mod. Some of the elevators in the long term garage still have male voices!

Oh wow lol. And yeah I'd completely agree. As for the long term garage voice, sure it's a male voice but it's not the same one the elevators had prior to the mod

All in all, this mod was very Tasteful and very well done. I love how the indicators remained analog on all of the elevators and the overall layout of these elevators is the exact same as it was before. All things considered, the mod went as well as it could've, but regardless of who modded these and what fixtures they go, the Westies will definitely be missed

so is Level 5 just Closed indefinetly? I know the Monorail has been decomissioned but other than that, what's up with level 5?

They're probably doing some renovations there. The monorail being removed likely has something to do with it, but if so they've been taking FOREVER

They are getting to be VERY RARE. They're extremely hard to get parts for and with the way Westinghouse elevator selectors are designed, many techs hate/don't know how to work on them and they're not exactly the greatest quality elevators from a reliability standpoint in regards to the controllers. I love Westinghouse elevators a LOT, they have a TON of character and I HATE seeing them get modded, but unfortunately it's not without reason. Now, for the case of Otises from the same time period, that's a different story.

At this point if you want to ride an Original Westy of any kind, your best bet is to take a trip to either Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Chicago or Milwaukee as Westinghouse was big there. Everywhere else though, there's only a select few Westies remaining if any are even remaining at all
