Mind blown by how you’ve solved all the problems of an awkward lot, and introduced the material of polycarbonate. Fascinating house design, congrats!
I can’t tell you how encouraging it is to come across your work - it helps me to feel creating a beautiful home is achievable in this era of housing on the planet … and to not have to compromise on beautiful, thoughtful, exciting design. I’m so grateful you are putting your talents and gifts to this direction… you may never know just how many people you’re helping… and how many ripples of possibility you’re helping open for ALL 🌎🙏🏽🌊❤️🔥🌅☀️😊🤍💖
I’m in awe of your creativity and talent, your ability to think outside the square…..literally.
Brilliant design once again. I like the way you situate the house on the property instead of just plopping a rectangle or square in the middle, like many houses are done. You take into consideration the seasons, country, light aspect and times of the day as the sun rises and sets. Brilliant! I guess that’s where your architecture training comes in. You don’t try to ‘wow’ with bizarre and shocking designs. Just organized and logical simplicity that’s also beautiful! Your voice is so calming and gives a relaxed mode to your videos, as well. I could listen to you speak about your designs for hours! Thank you once again!
I absolutely love watching the design take shape.
I really like your designs. Just wondering how it would be possible to build out of polycarbonate and be warm in a cold climate?

There are polycarbonate panels made for greenhouse use in cold weather, so yes, there are some options. These have channels built in, so there's trapped air within each panel. Using materials made for commercial use in residential buildings opens up all sorts of opportunities.
Wow your drawings are so great!! I'm a freshman at college in the US studying architecture and am a big fan of these types of channels. I also appreciate your transitions between SketchUp and hand drafting. So cool!
Really interesting concept. I love how you explained the positioning planning of the structure, especially using those tracing paper. Oh the good ol days..😅 another great video!

The thought and planning you put into these small buildings is fantastic and inspiring. I've worked with architects on my own homes and your insight and thought processes are a cut above. Well done!
Love how you capitalized on the features of this property and used innovative materials to create something special. This Lantern Cottage is so inviting! I also like the idea of having a small auxiliary space in the garden - perhaps a studio space that could accommodate an overnight guest. With thoughtful consideration to the development of the garden, this could be a marvelous home for a couple or single person. Love it!
These videos are so interesting. I would love to see more of them. Perhaps also catered to different climates.
I love watching what you do! If I wasn’t a genealogist I would’ve been a draftsman. Love figuring out flow.
Another great design. I love the way you talk through your design thought process and you have the most soothing speaking voice which is so pleasant to listen to.
I love how thorough you are....everything is remembered..storage, views, coziness, wood storage. Wow..just wow.
I looked over this plot a year or two ago. Scratched my head. Couldn’t see anything working. Thank you for opening my eyes. An elegant solution indeed.
I'm really enjoying your channel - it's fun, informative, and relaxing :)
So interesting to see how your architect's mind approaches the designs you show us. Really enjoying all your videos Gemma - thank you, and looking forward to more!
This place is great. The attention to light is very appealing.
Blown away with the glow in the evening...Just from computer generated 3d models, this home felt magical, in touch with its place on this earth. You are so talented.
Deciding where the building should be on the land and potential sight lines is so important. As I look around most don’t seem to think about these or worse yet they want you to see an expensive building (at the expense of privacy and landscape/large trees). I really only want to know so much about my neighbors.
Would love to see and hear about the room you are in during the introduction. I love the colors and how calm it feels.
Love your ideas for small and awkward places and spaces
I love your work! Thank you so much and please keep doing this!
Lovely! I enjoy your work, both the architectural creativity and the video production.
mesmerized by your creativity, ingenuity, and presentation. Thank you for all that you are offering💚
I live in the suburbs of a large city in southern USA, and I am convinced that some of these developers only consider how to squeeze as many houses in an area, (that was once old farmland or vacant field) as much as possible with no consideration to headlights shining into a living room window, side windows facing into the next door neighbor's side window, or the direction of the sun, etc. Our house shades our back deck, in late afternoon and evening, and the side window of a bedroom faces the next door neighbor's windowless side wall of their garage, but my husband and I overlooked these features when purchasing our house, so we feel very lucky. But why can't developers be more considerate towards nature and neighbors, which can still be cost efficient, when designing suburban developments? Love listening to your gentle voice and your consideration to privacy, efficient floor plan, position of the house on the lot, how the house will blend into the community and also, nature.
Another amazing solution. This one I really love and would consider using when I build tiny houses at the back of my property.
I’m really loving your work and delighted to be an early subscriber, looking forward to more of these. You have a lovely, calm presenting style and clear explanations of your thought process. Keep up the great work! You might be interested in some of Daniel Titchener’s videos. An interesting concept for sure, but IMO only a concept. Any insulation would block light, and the location demands high levels of insulation. As a previous comment mentioned, the actual planning consent on this site is for something in keeping with the surroundings… the narrow mindedness of planning departments is mind boggling. All that being said, I really enjoy the insight you have given in the thought processes for this design and those in your other videos. Subscribed.

Love, love, love your intelligent, thoughtful videos.
The only thing I would change is adding some windows so cross ventilation could be achieved. I personally love having windows open to air out my house, sleeping with a breeze, and smelling the natural air. Other than that, I am amazed at what you can create.

I think this is a really well thought-out space Gemma! Not for me for living in, but I think for commercial spaces it would be amazing! I'm thinking wedding venues, pubs, or a section of a nice restaurant. It would be a magical experience to have a special night out in a place like this.
Thank you for sharing your designs with the world. They inspire me ❤

extremely thoughtful design. Beautiful work. I live in Southern California. We have very strict building codes. For example, the staircase you've designed would not be code compliant here due to the high fall hazard it poses. I've been to Europe so I know the standards are different. But, I do believe it allows for more creative freedom in my opinion.

Hi Adrian, thanks so much for your thoughts. There are different rules for mezzanines though it depends where you are, what the usage of the space is, and the overall scale of the structure. Ultimately in creating these concept designs I’m not treating the projects as if I’d be taking them through to construction but rather want to explore the feeling of spaces. I always have the rules in the back of my mind as a default so they do guide my decisions, I just decided to set some parameters for where I’d focus my efforts.

Thanks! Hm it was a tricky one to visualise and capture the translucence of the material while also showing it’s insulated! I’ve put another link in the video description that talks more about the product’s thermal properties in case it’s of interest :)
Love this! How does the polycarbonate work for insulation? I love the translucency, (such a clever alternative to glass) but it seems like it wouldn’t insulate. Cheers
I loved it. I also love how you do explain the planes and positioning according to the light. I have some curiosity about the material used. Is it resistent enough to handle snow acmulation, storms & cia.? Does the stair and piched roof have the same inclination angle? Which would be the stone used? I love stones, but where I live is all about bricks an d concrete... Also how wide is the sttair and how big is the bathroom? is there a limit for how many floors you can have? thanks! :)
Looks amazing! My only question would be concerning insulation with the large (beautiful) opaque walls.
I love watching your videos. Thanks so much for posting them. You can really feel the passion you have for your art / craft / work! A question on this - what are your thoughts on the practicality of the polycarbonate in Scotland? I don’t have building experience but I imagine the insulating properties aren’t great for polycarbonate?
sick channel
I am really interested in your videos! Very inspirational. I wonder if one time you could do a video (if it is within your remit) on how the practicalities in Scotland on purchases land and building your own home. I would not know where to begin, or how to finance this. I live in a modern flat in Glasgow, and dream of a small cottage on a modest plot of land. Thanks in advance.
The translucent walls are fascinating but how would you insulate them for cold weather occupation?
If you're interested to learn more about polycarbonate as a building material, please refer to the links in the video description.
Love this design... but where do you park....even a Mini Cooper ?🤔
Hi Gemma, I find your videos very inspiring for my own house plans. I've been thinking about a polycarbonate roof too, but I wonder about condensation. in the cold season, when the heating is on, would there not be condensation water running down the inside of the roof? LIke when camping when everything gets wet...? What do you think?
When can I move in? Love this design.
I am enamored with the design concept, but curious about external noise pollution… I imagine the double walled polycarbonate would muffle sound somewhat, but not to the same degree as typical construction materials.
Great videos! Really enjoy your explanations and visual layering, I use tracing paper all the time for sketching and testing ideas on art projects. What modeling app do you use?

I absolutely love the design, although personally I would worry for my safety given the translucency
just an idea, instead of the shutters at 8:06, i would do some louvre between the semi transparent Roof Part, integrated and electric so you can switch on the lights and privacy at the same time... i would totally buy this one...
Hi live these videos. How would this design go staying warm in that cold climate without insulation? Is that the reason for a double layer of the polycarbonate ?

What a wonderful design. What are the floor plan dimensions for this drawing? Would love to know the ration of depth to width.
