Welcome to Modern Gundog Training. In this series of programmes we will cover every aspect of producing a well-rounded, capable and steady Springer Spaniel in the shooting field. We will
work with a variety of Springer’s with different characters and levels of ability. The different stages are approached with dogs facing the challenges for the first time, therefore issues and difficulties organically arise throughout the programmes. We then look to solve these issues using kind, firm, modern methods of training
In the first instalment we begin our exciting journey towards a trained Springer spaniel. We will take young puppies through the very first stages of training and socialisation, with the emphasis on the dogs having fun and enjoying their early lessons. With these positive foundations in place we will be well positioned to move on to the more advanced training in the rest of the series.

I was lucky enough to train my first spaniel at the Essex get together. When you grandfather was teaching along with Rachael gosling , Wendy Knight. Well worth the the160 mile round trip every Sunday. Brilliant times .
Wonderful dogs. My Springer will cuddle you endlessly; however, put them in the field, and they're all business, and make fine gundogs.

I so dearly want to get another Springer, even if it's a mix. I miss the loyalty, and genuine love they have for children.
Own a springer and no gun my springer loves to run free and chase anything that moves I own no gun and love my dog as my friend and my golden lab also.
I am definitely not a professional but all my dogs were is to train. I do allow mine to range out to 25 yards or so. Only hunt wild birds on public land and after the first couple of weeks when only the smart ones are left you must improvise for hunting the runners (all of them) know how to hunt with springers it is awesome. Still say, doc the tails!
So sad my 2 year old English springer has ruptured his cruciate ligament.
Could you give me some advice on your experiences with both Springer and cocker. I can not decide which one to pick and do not know which would be best for me and my family

Suggest you look at Kennel Club guide and speak to existing owners.
how do you go from the ball to the action on command? this step is missing in videos and in widespread theory
