Modern Classic: Swimming Pool

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Swimming Pool was created by legendary German barman Charles Schumann who is truly the godfather of the modern cocktail movement. Although the likes of Dale DeGroff gets a lot of credit for kick starting the Cocktail Renaissance with his fresh ingredients approach to running a bar, which he started at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Schumann was, in his own words not only his predecessor but also his inspiration. It was Schumann's book American Bar that inspired the first wave of cocktail reconstruction and rediscovery that became what we refer to as the "Cocktail Renaissance."
Charles Schumann was born Karl Georg Schumann in 1941 in the Upper Palatinate located in Eastern Bavaria. In his 20's he attended the College of Hotel Management in Switzerland and then in his thirties went to work cutting his teeth in the bars and nightclubs in the South of France. In the Summer of 1973 he became a bartender at Harry's New York Bar and then in 1982 opened his first bar Schumann's American Bar in Munich. In 1991 he published his book American Bar which went on to inspire dozens of bartenders in the art of elevating their drinks.

I tried to make a swimmingpool the way you did in the video, but I didn't find it too different from a pina colada. And I liked the idea of a more blueish cocktail. So the recipe I found worked much better imo: 8cl pineapple juice 4cl vodka 2cl whipped cream 2cl Cream of Coconut 2cl Blue Curacao Crushed ice Shake it all together: voilá May not be the original, but tastes much more refreshing and is more distinctly different from a pina colada.

It only depends on what visual effect you want, for yourself or guests. If you want a lightning effect like in the video, obviously pour the curaçao only at the end. But if you want an homogenic blue color, just put the the liquor in the tin like other spirits (and certainly add a quarter ounce of it, but then substract the same spec of vodka).
