I am working on mixed mode fracture in concrete using XFEM method. For that the crack would propagate at some angle not straight like in your case, and that is because the fracture energies are different for different modes and hence their contribution vary as the crack propagates with time. I am curious about the fact that how one would know which region and to what extend one has to select to make sure that the crack propagate in that region. I mean how you new that you crack will propagate along that straight line, it could have, practically, gone anywhere in that plate.

Have not simulated that before. It is tricky problem as the strain accumulates in the material over time due to rolling contact fatigue and results in material hardening and eventual failure.

@@FaisalQayyum thank you for getting back so fast! Basically I have to simulate crack propagation on a 3D CT specimen subjected to fatigue with R=0.1. This crack growth must be done using XFEM and fatigue criterion must follow Paris Law with VCCT constants (c1, c2, c3, c4, delta G ,etc..) that I already have. After simulating crack propagation I have to take from Abaqus a da/dN curve and compare it with experimental results. I would be glad if you could help me to the best of your ability.
