    After you see a model train go around in a circle 100 times , you can really really appreciate the effort, the beauty, the time spent, the dedication and passion, and the excellent and silky smooth narration, of the host... Thank you, Awesome !!

    What an awesome video. I just stumbled across this. It reminds me of my childhood when my Dad surprised me at Christmas one year with a half built N-scale model railroad project that he purchased from one of his friends at work. It was roughly a 6'x10' layout with two controllers. I learned to lay track and create terrain. All those memories just came flooding back. Thank you so much.

    Grab irons and assorted tubing details add so much realism to a locomotive. When I see a loco with full grab iron detail all I can think is, "DON'T TOUCH!!!".

  • @Modeltrains

    Agreed. I think all the manufactures struggle with finding the happy medium between truly scale and detailed handrails and handrails that can stay straight and survive the engine being picked up and set down a lot. Cheers, Kevin

    Some really nice camera work. An impressive selection of motive power. I need to go back an re-watch the one you did on speed matching as it looks like you have good results from MU-ing different manufacturers' locos. As a "UP guy" I have to comment; you said that UP de-rated their SD90s, however those units came as SD9043MACs from the factory. In theory they were upgradable if the 6000hp power plants had worked out, but the cost was prohibitive so they served their lives with 4300hp prime movers. Sort of an equivalent to the SD70MAC but on a bigger frame. Many have been retired and sold to NS, the remainder are mostly stored. I'm not criticizing - I am keeping an SD9043MAC active on my layout too because I like the looks of the beast (one of the advantages of being able to control our little worlds). Your operating session looks like you took your own advice about "keep enjoying your trains". Have fun!

  • @Modeltrains

    @Modeltrains

    7 жыл бұрын

    Gary, thanks for the correction. I was thinking about the AC6000s. You're right all the UP SD90s were 4300 hp. Cheers, Kevin

    As always, very video! Now, let me nit pick just a bit. Most all of the locomotives need thier windows tinted or crew members installed. DPS all have their lights backward, the reason lights need to be on dim. The railroad appears to operate flawlessly and is beautiful, however everything needs weathering. It's too bad that I have moved to northern Idaho or I'd volunteer to weather rolling stock for you. I truly enjoy watching your updates and hope that you continue doing them . All nit pics are purely in good humor! You and your friends are doing great work. Best wishes, Bill.

    Bill, completely agree. Lots of things I still have to get too. I've been focusing most of my time towards the layout itself rather than weathering my engines and cars. But, you're right, it would look better if everything was weathered. Cheers, Kevin

    They didnt de-rate them. The SD90 was offered in 2 options. The 90Mac-H 6000hp 16-265H engine and the 90/43Mac which uses the 16-710 G3B. The offering was made because the 265H was very unreliable where as the tried and true 710 series had been around mainline heavy hall and were near bullet proof.

    maybe you can help me.. I'm trying to think of a color scheme for the freelance railroad I want to start up. It's called North Central Railroad.. right now I'm using grey, black and orange for the colors but it just doesn't seem to fit.

  • @Modeltrains

    Steve, to me, usually the simpler the paint scheme the more striking it is (think CSX, NS, ICG, MRL, D&RGW). Two exceptions to this that are busier and look really good are Santa Fe's warbonnet and KCS's retro belle schemes. I'd go for 1 predominant color, then maybe a brighter color for the handrails, sill, steps, etc. Then maybe a third for the lettering and any nose stripes, etc. Hope this helps. Cheers, Kevin

    No, the layout isn't finished yet. I'm probably going to make a few changes to the unfinished areas before completing them. Not sure how many scale feet of track I have as I've ever calculated it out. But the overall layout isn't very large. Cheers, Kevin
