This took me back to my childhood. Riding in the back of a Cadillac and getting dropped off at school. Can’t wait to restore mine so my future kids can enjoy.

Great timeline review! Once the "Standard of the World," Cadillac has certainly lost the majority of its cachet, which is a crying shame. Your tour through the glory days was excellent and bittersweet. I really appreciate the effort you put into your posts and enjoy them immensely!

Very well done & detailed history, nothing like a Cadillac & glad they seem to be having some success again. I made the mistake of buying a new 1973 Mercedes believing the hogwash about how sturdy & reliable they were, it rode like a covered wagon, jarred my teeth when on any slightly bumpy road and didn't run more than 10 days without having to take it in for one problem or another! My 1962 Corvair was a better car. Hope Caddy reinstates it's past successes.

Great review! It was only a matter of time that Cadillac names became initials in order to “compete” with the German and Japanese luxury cars. It will be hard for younger viewers to imagine, but there was a time when Cadillacs were once considered the premier luxury brand in the entire world.

Thanks. Sales would suggest moving to meaningless alphanumeric names are not marketable. It hurt Cadillac, as well as Acura and others. Agreed. In a period when Cadillac seems barely comparable to Audi, it is hard to imagine it was once a step up from a Bentley.

@@thehopelesscarguy I always liked Acura’s model names; Legend, Vigor, Integra (making a comeback!)etc. Alphanumeric names are bland and show zero creativity.

My first car when I was 16 was a beautiful 1978 Coupe DeVille. Great car but it got hit in the rear end by some old guy, Then I financed a 1987 Sedan DeVille and paid it off. I got rid of it when I changed bases while I was in the Navy. That was about 2001 or so. I hated the little honda I got but now all the guys wanted to put rims on it and make it go fast. Myself I've always been a cruiser not a racer. So years pass not owning anything and I ended up moving to the Philippines and you don't want a car in Manila trust me. When my Wife and I got married and had a kid I found online and bought a mint 1994 Cadillac Sedan DeVille. We live out in the rice farming providences now and we are the ONLY ones in the entire country that has a registered Sedan DeVille! Driving the Caddy out here in the Philippines the farmers and trycyle drivers look stunned when a 45 year old White Man drive by in a huge Cadillac. There are almost 0 other Cadillac's here in the Philippines just rich guys in Esclades. Now my friends in the states could care less because it is a 1994. They want New, but just having one here is awesome and fits my Wife and 4 kids easily. Now Toyota or Honda simply cannot do that! So thank God I I don't have a Japanese Toyota van or a dumb SUV because the Cadillac has such better seats and style. I could care less about being fast because the max speed I got here in this country is about 55mph because of the roads and all the motorcycle everywhere. The only problem with the Cadillac is lack of parking and parking on the curb right on the road. It's funny how life is sometimes, 45 years old and owning 3 Cadillacs over the years, Ok thanks for letting me vent and tell someone about what I'm doing in my life. My friends in Michigan could care less. So my car means a whole lot to me here.

What a nice review you put together. Thank you for doing this. I own a 1973 Coupe DeVille. I thought they handled the front bumpers rather tastefully, considering the extension.

I talked a friend of mine into buying a 73 Deville once. It was the torque that sold it.

Thank you for this video. Once again another great job. It is much appreciated. I am still waiting to see Oldsmobile 98 and Oldsmobile Toronado. and Pontiac Bonneville and Parisienne.

Thank you. It is a pretty big list. I am just starting to work on the Plymouth Fury and I think Pontiac Grand Prix is after that. And I haven't done any Buicks yet, so those are coming up as well.

I’ve owned two Cadillacs , a72 and an 88 both were disappointments. The 72 couldn’t pass a gas station but the aluminum engine in the 88 cause the heads to leak and needed to be replaced at 47k miles. The mechanic told us to dump it asap. We did. Standard of the world? What a low bar that would set!

Mileage was clearly not a concern for Cadillac and by the 80s, they were clearly but a shadow of their former selves.

I remember when I was a kid,the old woman next door had a boyfriend,he was very old,who drove a late 60's coupe DeVille.It take a least ten minutes to park it.But it was brand new and beautiful.

I knew an old couple that had a Fleetwood and an Imperial, and I don't think they could see over the steering wheel of either, but they sure were impressive.

Needless to say if they ever come out with an 87 Cadillac model kit... I'd have to have one and build it!!

When I was young I got the annual catalogs from AMT and Monogram. I don't know if they do those anymore.

U left out that the ('98?) DeVille was 1st U.S. car with led taillights. They caught my eye when flashing as the difference is crisper. Anyway, Coupe de Ville was one of the best names ever and thise '50s beasts were cray cray but i loved them secretly😅

i myself have the 70 sedan model

AC did not become standard until 1975, whereas Lincoln made it standard in 1971. Not that it mattered; it was reflected in a lower base price, and I'd have to imagine installation rate was near 100% post 1971.

A 68 Coupe Deville 375hp and 525 lb-ft of torque did 60 in 8.2 seconds and the 1/4 in 15.7 while weighed in at nearly 5000 lbs.

1956 was the last year Cadillac built a truly stylish car.

I suppose there could be much debate on that depending on your criteria, but it is safe to say they haven't thad that kind of presence for awhile.

@@thehopelesscarguy Opinions will vary of course but the way I see it 1957 was the year Cadillac said goodbye to stylishness and hello to gaudiness and it never really recovered from that. Thanks for an interesting video BTW.
