    Great video, thinking of getting back into this after 30 years. Any advice as to what would be needed a. Starter kit or do you have a video showing your setup? Things like paints, thinners, airbrush, sanding tools, everything to get up and running from scratch

  • @Big-Modeller

    Enough thinking about getting back. Just do it :) Buy yourself a kit, but chose something new, I mean a kit designed after 2010. Many companies have starter sets - with paintbrushes and paints, it's worth considering if you have no tools yet. And those sets have proper difficulty for a new modeller. I can recommend to check out Airfix's products, but other companies make such models too. As for other tools - go to your nearby drugstore for sanding sticks and cutters. Try online scale modelling shops for glue, hobby knife and putty (and basically everything :)). But start from the beginning, which is an easy model set, you'll see how enthusiasm will guide you into the great world of scale modelling ;)

    Fajnie wygląda. Ja robię coś pomiędzy wasch-em a filtrem i nakładam tylko w kierunku spływu . ( powierzchnia to pół mat )

  • @Big-Modeller

    @Big-Modeller

    7 жыл бұрын

    Tutaj powierzchnia musiała być błyszcząca. Specjalnie robiłem ten etap na sam koniec, żeby już nie musieć nakładać lakieru błyszczącego i żeby okopcenie zostało naturalnie matowe.

    It got a clear coat after decals and panel lining, but then I added oil exhaust smoke by engines without covering it with clear coat (I wanted those smoke stains to stay matt).

    Czy po nałożeniu kalki, a przed olejami kładziesz jeszcze lakier? Jeśli tak, to jaki? Z góry dziękuję za odpowiedź.

    Tak, zabezpieczam kalkę lakierem bezbarwnym. Zwykle kładę Sidolux albo jakiś inny akrylowy lakier, jak na przykład Humbrol Clear.

    Hi there :) I'm glad you've enjoyed my work, sir. As for the starter kit... B-17 is quite a complicated plane, like most of the bombers. I'd rather recommend starting this hobby with some WW2 fighter. There's a lot of starter kits in Airfix's range. Get some experience there, and you'll be making bombers in no time :)

    Awesome work! How long did you leave the wash to dry before you rubbed it off? And how do you manage to get the oil paint to look like exhaust stains? Do you keep rubbing it until you get the desired effect?

  • @Big-Modeller

    @Big-Modeller

    6 жыл бұрын

    I leave it for 2 days, or dry it with a hairdryer for about 15 minutes. As for exhaust stains - that's exactly the technique - rubbing, then rubbing and a little rubbing ;)

    Well, pigments are meant for matt surfaces. This plane is glossy so no pigment will stick to it. I use pigments mostly for armoured vehicles, where you can apply them at the very end of the building process on the matt surface to imitate road dust or mud.

  • @Big-Modeller

    You might try to make some exhaust soot imitation but honestly, I've never seen anyone doing this with pigments on planes before. One piece of advice - try it somewhere else first. Paint plastic spoon with the same colour you've used for the plane and use it for testing purposes. Otherwise, you might ruin the proper paintwork.
