Thank you for the comprehensive tutorial! I'm about to repair mine [belt replacement] and I was curious about the AV out mod! You list of resources is amazing! Cheers.
I found/find these fascinating. As you note in this video one of the novel aspects of the camera is that it uses an audio cassette to record video. In the same era my parents had just gotten a VHS-C video camera which I sought to borrow from them quite a bit. Some of those vintage recordings from 1987 were digitized so I have them for posterity pretty much.
If you want a ghostly hellscape, use the tape! To me that's by far the most interesting thing about this rare gem.
So sick man. You’re super handy!
Superb content, thx mate!
Very cool project!
Awesome! Thanks for the video! I don't imagine you know where on the board the upper battery box gets wired? On the one I picked up both positive and negative are detached and I'm having a hard time finding info as well!
I’m 100% doing this with my P2K. Such a great solution. I do have one question.. What was your reasoning behind not running power to the dc on the back of the camera?
Wow. I remember when these came out. What's next? Modding Pocket Rockers? 🙂
Great video! So sick. Pretty sure we can come up with a worse video camera though.
I don't know what, but we gotta film something with that thing.
Have you ever been able to record audio out of the PXL-2000 to the powerplay? I have a PXL modified with RCA video and audio out and am trying to record both to the powerplay. But the audio is either distorted or sounds like timecode. Any thoughts on how to remedy this? Or do I just abandon trying to record audio out to the powerplay? Thank you!
Always great videos keep it up much love
Hi there, THANKS A LOT for this tutorial, specially the lost web you found. I have a question, did you cleaned or polish the blue squared lens? I saw it in another tutorial by HowToWith GEO, i don't know if it's a common issue, but the image i get from my PXL is blurry and unfocused. Greetings!

Yeah I cleaned mine with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud, made a big difference

@@NEONAIRSHIP Thanks for asking; i also cleaned the same way you did, but still blurry. With a magnified glass i saw there's a degradation of the whole plastic lens, it's opaque and i cannot see image through. Is this lens essential for the camera? I'm thinking to remove it.

It's the Infrared filter, so without it the infrared spectrum is visible - fine to use without but it might expose quite differently. Shouldn't make much difference indoors

@@NEONAIRSHIP Thanks! I removed it and now works perfectly, the picture is "clear". Also, could i ask you another question? Can i use a standard Sony NP battery with the Smallring adapter? I don't understand properly how an adapter can power 12v using a 7.5v battery. Thank you very much, greetings!

Awesome! The smallrig adapter has a little voltage booster circuit in it to get to 12v just uses normal Sony np batteries :)
@Neon Airship Hi, im looking to connect mine up to my tv or a windows laptop for playback of videos & to digitize them. Could you please help me by providing a list of what things I will need & directions, it would be much appreciated?😊
Hey there, does the Powerplay accept an RCA analog signal?
RIP Ben Raemers ❤️
any new pxl 2000 news?
I don’t understand how just adding a wire to the audio out would cause it to no longer record audio to the cassette. Why is that?

Good question, I don't feel like it should but its what I read on some old blog or forum somewhere. Who knows!

@@NEONAIRSHIP I just did the a/v mod and it records video and audio to the tape while the composite video and audio are plugged into my Monitor. No problems except both the video and audio are kindof week and need a boost. The video is darker than the rf output but cleaner and the audio is low. I’m hoping this amplifier will solve that issue: DTECH Powered 4 Way 3 RCA Splitter Box 1 in 4 Out Composite Video Audio Distribution Amplifier with Power Adapter www.amazon.com/dp/B082XTKN7L/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ESB7NWVKZ3NE0ZS4XQCR

Let me know how it works out! I had to bump the exposure up a few stops on my clips when editing
Anyone from Archive 81?

Yep,me.Had to check on obscure tech like this immediately when he mentioned it. (in the last episode)
WHY bother? Your phone can make video instantly (and no extra cost). If you want old-style composite video there’s tons of VHS-compact camcorders that have the output already wired & ready to connect to a DVR
