Thanks for the positives. I think they made many clones of this sander design, which originally came out of Taiwan back in the 1970's. I used it again today and it worked well. Definitely needs that belt adjuster mod if it has a "V" belt drive. Cheers Rob

Nice fix Rob. The simple things can be the most useful things. I guess the company wants to cut costs as much as possible and they don't go to the extent to add something simple like you have added. Pass the tensioning work on to the consumer and let them dick around with it for ages instead of adding a few more parts..

Nice, thats how they should be made Rob. My Toyota dyna truck has its fan and alternator belt tensioned with leverage from a big screwdriver. So your sander is upperclass now.. See if they omit a belt tensioner, they can then add more weight to the container load of chinese products they ship over. Why waste container weight on a belt tensioner that will probably only ever be adjusted once? So i think no tensioner on your sander was not an oversight, but on purpose🤔

Hey rob! Do you have experience in machining cast iron? I tried it last week and sparks were flying everywhere on my mini lathe. Kept getting sparks flying. Also any videos you have on HSS grinding toolbits/experience with different carbide inserts?
@Xynudu
Жыл бұрын
I have plenty of experience machining cast iron. If the cast iron is sparking it means it is terrible quality. There should not be any sparks ever. The sparks you get are from impurities in the cast iron. I'm guessing it's probably old gym weights or the such. These are usually made from the last poor at the foundry and contain sand and god know's what else. It will also blunten tooling like crazy. I have not done much video on HSS grinding as it's all well documented elsewhere. Carbide inserts vary a lot and are subject to specific use parameters (for the particular job). Larger nose radius will generally give a better finish. Speed, feed rate and DOC are the main considerations. I've not done a video on that subject as it's been covered by many channels. Cheers Rob

Nice Rob. As you were describing the mods I had only previously imagined exactly the same things - down to the right angle at the front rather than a plate. Uncanny. Only concern is if you need to take it back for a warranty claim. Probably best to hold back for a few months after purchase to make sure all is well before applying the clearly needed mods.

Hi Regan. I was fine until I hit 70 and then time and health issues really brought riding to a halt. Thankfully most of the afore mentioned issues are now sorted, but I was under the pump there for quite a while. I'm not sure what's wrong with the 860. It won't go into any gear. Clutch is fine, so seems like selector drum is frozen or some such. It could even be an oil issue, as I can't get BP Coarse any more and I'm using something else. The F1 is fine and ready to go. Cheers Rob

Hi, There do you think the 1420 rpm is enough.??
@Xynudu
Жыл бұрын
Yes, plenty fast enough Wayne. Many AC electric motors for saws, sanders and compressors run at 1420 rpm. It gives good torque and cool running. I have a 1420 Chinese electric motor on my existing linisher. The actual wattage/HP of the engine is a major factor as far as the stalling resistance of the sander goes. Once again that is limited by what the sanding belt can take before it breaks, so it all becomes a bit irrelevant as sanding belts should be used correctly (lightly). Cheers Rob
