[mod] Casio W800-H Countdown Timer Modification

Ғылым және технология

I've had this Casio W800-H wristwatch kicking around for a while, but it turns out with a simple hack you can unlock or disable features! How could I not try it?

I just modded my trusty W880-H following the instructions in your video and now it has a countdown timer 😃 Thank you so much for making this video! btw: You can also return to the default watchface showing the time by long pressing the mode button.

Great method with the copper wire! Btw for those without a soldering iron, it can just be scratched off with a needle or pointy tool. Be careful though.

Great walkthrough. I just completed the mod on my trusted and nearly 10 year old W800-H following along with the video. It has always annoyed me that my W800-H didn't have a countdown timer and now it has one! For those attempting to do this... make sure to set aside the spring mentioned at 3:08. Mine fell out when I took apart the module. Trying to find it on the carpeted floor was quite a challenge.

I did mine and noticed the little spring is designed with a slightly thicker end ..that end is the inner one ..you cant pull the spring out but when you separate the unit it falls out the back!

Agreed! It's a very easy and rewarding mod. There's something so satisfying about it. Everytime I use the countdown timer now I feel a moment of pride.

Wow! This is great! Just saw the post on Hackaday accidentally and I have the same watch and I really missed this feature. I didn't know that it can be hacked to do this. Now it's much more simple to make my tea :D I don't need to set the timer on my phone. That's fantastic! :D

Thanks for the guide! I was wondering what is the spring that fell off for, and then I found that it's for the piezo speaker.

I think you will find jumpers to disable existing features and 3 jumpers to adjust the timekeeping in 8 steps to calibrate it. Nothing all too interesting. But welcome to try. You can get an error of several minutes a month by doing the jumpers wrong though.

I'd be intrigued to know which watch has this module with the timer enabled. The only one with the near identical module is the W96H and that doesn't come with a timer as standard.

Sorry I don't have much guidance to give there. All I can tell you is that the w800h timer hack does NOT let you set a countdown timer in seconds. The lowest it goes is 1 minute.

Hi. I would recommend any Timex Ironman Classic 30 Lap watch (3 alarms, 24 hr-chrono, timer that can be set to the second, 2 extra time zones, indiglo light, affordable, 100M water resistant, very comfortable). Regards.

I never really thought about it before that the W800 won't let you set seconds, but I have several Casios that you CAN set the timer seconds... The A500, AE1000, AE1200, W93, W735, DW5600, GWB-5600, and probably the W94 and W737 (dead batteries). Even a cheap Innovative Time Sports Master that I bought at Kmart some 38 years ago when I was 16 for less than $10, plus a more expensive stainless steel version of the same watch with the same module for around $20 could set the countdown timer seconds, yet curiously no seconds on the W800 or the F201 models.

Can the alarm be set to less than an hour? My main use would be to set it to 35 minutes when I'm doing the laundry. My watch is a W-98H with a 'module number' of 2499 (4 buttons, alarm, Stopwatch, Dual time)

Is there someone I can have do this? I don't have a soldering iron but I am about to buy a W-800H and this is literally the only thing this watch would be needing to be a good everyday watch for me to replace my AE-1000.

You don't have to use soldering tool. I carefully scraped the solder off with a small knife edge. And it worked perfectly on my W-800H watch.

I didn't use an soldering tool on mine. I just used the smallest flathead screwdriver from one of those cheap jeweler set of 6 to carefully scrape through the jumper. I had never disassembled a module from any watch before this, and I got it right on the second try. My first attempt was only a fail because I didn't quite sever the jumper and I didn't activate the timer. The second try on the same watch a few minutes later was completely successful.
