    I did all my lessons with a driving school - RJH - and the cost included the use of a bike & clothing. That's how most do it but you could just book your own test and use you own bike if you have one.

    After watching many Mod 1 test prep videos like this one, I passed without a single fault with ease! Usually I'm so nervous about any kind of test, but two things really helped me so hopefully they will help someone here too! 1. The test area is SO much bigger than the practice area of the driving school I was at. It makes you feel so much less enclosed and mentally like you have more room to manoeuvre. 2. Take your time after each instruction. It's easy to let the occasion get the better of you and rush into things. Stop, take a deep breath. Taking a few seconds to process and remember what you have to do is much less time than waiting weeks to retake. You have paid for this test and the examiners time - USE IT. After each instruction, relay it back to the examiner to ensure you understand. Stop. Breath. Do your checks, move away slowly. Good luck!

    This is perfect instructional - thanks. The day before the Mod 1, I spent a day getting a feel for my hired bike 650cc. I've never riden a big bike and last time I rode a bike was 6 months prior on my CBT. taking this into account my instructors felt I had enough confidence and skill with the bike I learned on ALL day - I surpassed my other (experienced) students and basically smashed my 3 x mock Mod 1 test at there centre with not a single fail on the last two mock test!. I was elated and ready for the Mod 1 with confidence. However next morning for the real deal Mod 1 my instructors changed my bike ( said it was up for an M.O.T.!)..I had 25mins to warm up before riding out to the DVSA test centre. It was a complete different ride - same model but complete different feel - the balance, the clutch, braking and handling. My heart sank and my confidence withered by the minute until I was self doubting my ability to control this bike. I was unhappy. Of course I faild the Mod 1 within the slow monurveres- I put my foot down! Instant fail - this caused me to panic and I missed a life saver before the U - turn monuvere. I was the only one who failed that day..I still feel awful and down about it. Did I get sabataged with the last minute bike switch? I'm taking the test again in 4 weeks. Shall I appeal against this treatment to my instructor(s) to the owner of the school? Just felt I was ripped off or taken for a ride! To get more money out of me - another £144 quid. I mean, should they have pulled this stunt on me?..should they have given me a bike to learn on all day knowing it had to go for an mot next day?..is this right? Well disappointed. Would be gratful for your thoughts and some feed back...

  • @BeinginMotion

    @BeinginMotion

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hello, cheers for the sub and your kind words! Yeah, that's very harsh, I think most of us new riders would struggle doing the test on a different bike - you get used to the riding position, handling characteristics - but then you're putting mental effort on the basics and not the test, so I absolutely understand your frustration. I'm not sure an appeal will get you anywhere, certainly won't with the DVSA and it's them who charge either you or the driving school a fee for the Mod1. It's worth telling the driving school that you feel it was an avoidable mistake on their part, they might do something on their costs but that's down to their goodwill rather than any obligation...

    So this guys checks are all super quick, make assured checks and most of all - before the U turn, do a full life saver (look backwards down the pad). You may be failed for doing something similar to the video. The main thing is to control your nerves, deep breaths before ever exercise and never rush. The test itself is pretty easy but convincing yourself that is the hard bit. ( lil tip, eating a banana about 30mins before helps settle those nerves )

    The DVSA only do the tests mate, if you need a bike to learn on (like most of us ) then a riding school can provide. They do all kind of packages but they all come with a bike with insurance and most will have helmets, jackets and gloves too but yeah the DVSA won’t help out with that and you have to go to a private riding school or, if you have your own bike, you can just book the test with the DVSA direct

    Hi. Nice Video. Thank you :) There are a couple of little things you haven't covered in it that my braincell needs answers to. .Which side of the bike should you mount and dismount? I am assuming the left side (nearside to the kerb) or does it even matter? .If the bike i've loaned from the driving school breaks down or has a flat tyre. Will i get to start over on the same day if a replacement bike is available? or is that instant fail?

  • @BeinginMotion

    @BeinginMotion

    3 жыл бұрын

    Thanks matey! So you should mount from the clutch/gear/foot stand side as that's where the bike is most stable. To be honest I'm not sure it matters BUT you need to be in control of the vehicle and they might see it as not in control. Wow that last point! You're a pessimist right?! If the bike isn't road worth it won't be allowed on the test so it'd need sorting before the test begins but the driving schools keep them well maintained; new tyres, proper tyre pressures etc so it'd be very unlucky if you got a flat. My instructor was with me all the way, I had a lesson before, he rode with me to the test centre and waited. I suspect he had a tyre repair kit too...

  • @Palmit_

    Thank you! @@BeinginMotion Yes. Pessimist. Actually i'm more anxious than negative. Probably over confident. You actually made a good point in your theory video about being too far ahead of the computer in the hazard perception. I got 50/50 question but only 64/75 in the hazard because i clicked early, only momentarily early, but as i thought i clicked in time, i was nervous to click again in case it was seen as a pattern. I have ADHD and moderate on ASD spectrum. I have Coach/Bus Cat D Manual (without trailer) since '95 and car B since '92. Riding H90 4 stroke and Yam 80 two stroke steppies since 17 legally (14 in reality) and farming in John Deere 2210 and Massey Ferguson 3095. Also several years of 7.5 ton removal lorry driver and loader. (Cagodan Tate then Pickfords) A whole life story of why I am pessimistic. aged six my mother was declared unfit and i had to go asessment center.. and that was only mid beginnning of bullying, sexual and violent abuse, then, onto boarding schools.. and for holidays i came home to neglect and further abuse. there was no 'dad'. Just a screwed up mother that couldn't handle her own life, let alone with undiagnosed autist like me as company (dependenant). It was ok, the first hammer attack and she appologised and was more friendly than ever. but she sold my bike (brand new racing bike, only had a few goes on it) whilst i was away at school. Came back and she was angrier than ever at me for the littlest reasons. We used to have a regualr fizzy drinks bottles collection and delivery service (corona i think they were called). she threw from the top of the stairs a 1 litre empty bottle at me, i ducked and it went entirely through the front door "reinforced" glass. IT was the front door and was half wood lower, and half glass upper (frosted, with thin wire embedded between thick glass sheets).. anyway.. long story short...when she tried deliver the 4 pronged hayfork (not garden fork, much much more pointy) driven at my throat.. (i still have the scar).. i decided right then, subconsciously, that being on the look out for bad things in any and every scenario is probably a good idea... so yeah. pessimistic. loads more to tell.

  • @BeinginMotion

    No, the test centre is just where the test goes down. They belong to the DVSA and they won't provide you with any equipment. If you get training with a school they'll provide you with a bike, helmet, jacket, insurance and the training. You could book a test with the DVSA directly if you already have a bike and don't need the training but most learners will get a package from a school that includes training, the bike and all the tests.
