    I wish I'd watched this video before I made my first mobile game.... The first game I made was a premium game with a 1 time payment for the full game. Which I've always been a fan of as a consumer, but as a dev I've realized it's not easy as an unknown dev to get people to pay for a game when there are so many free games out there. lol.

    I've been developing an adventure/platforming game for mobile for more than a year. But the design doesn't include IAP. Any paid improvement would break the gameplay. IAA is also hard to implement, the question is when to put them without taking out the player of the gameplay. Is my only chance to go for Paid App approach?

    Things I'm seeing a lot more often in mobile games these days that don't make any sense to me: - Put 1 advertisement per level / attempt... That can literally be 30 seconds unskippable ads per 30 seconds of gameplay and it is absolutely annoying to most mobile gamers. You WILL lose many players because of it. - Make game unplayable without internet access.. Not sure how developpers think it's a good idea. If they want to prevent people from disabling internet to not watch ads, that just means that the app has too much of them..

Yes you can have short yet not so deep games/videos but they are not the same as big open world games with great story/characters/raytracing and the same goes for few second/min videos compared to long and well though out movies. Yet the Nintendo switch tends to be in the middle

  • @mandisaw

    @mandisaw

    4 жыл бұрын

    No, it's very possible to succeed as an indie in mobile, but you have to do a lot of work to understand your sector of the market (game genre, global region, target audience, etc), and have a clear understanding of what you/your game offers that is different or more appealing than the rest. I see a lot of people basically just dropping their "completed" game on the market, with no idea of who their audience is or who their competition is, and then wondering why nobody shows up to make them a millionaire. The big companies pay entire departments, or contractor companies, to do their marketing & user acquisition - if you're doing it as a small-timer, then you have to do the work.

    I wanna put my hypocrisy down, clear as day on the table: as a consumer of videogames, I HATE the freemium model that convolutes money and time into progress, and I hate the whales that enable this model. But if i ever went into gamedev? You bet your bottom dollar I'd try to hook those damn whales as aggressively as possible. I'd measure my product by whale dollars spent per month and aim to maximize that metric as much as possible. So thank you, askgamedev, for teaching the common folk how to hook whales the way Fate Grand Order and ArkKnights do.

    My consultant has told me that a viable strategy is to shit out crap games, or SOCG. If you do that enough times, you might accidently shit out a game that is fun for half an hour and makes players watch the ads for other crap games, which were paid for by rich Chinese who see Mobile Gaming as an investment sector. But what do I know, I'm only a low quality user.

    It baits people long enough, so that they watch at least one ad within the game. By the time you uninstall the app, the dev already made money off you.

    Repent ye: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23 Jesus Christ loves you: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 Read Revelation 18 "And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." Mark 1:15
