    I grew up in DC during the 80s and 90s. We couldn’t even go into hoods we didn’t belong to. Has to meet the females at the malls or anywhere outside their community, fear of being robbed, jumped, or killed for no reason, but fun. I made it!

    I think the minimum wage at that time was $3.35. You have to factor in inflation. A pack of cigarettes was probably about a dollar at that time. In 85 i got a job making like $4.50 and that was considered a good wage at the time.

    I lived in Dc as a kid mid 80s south east and it was so bad my mother female friend was walking her dog around 4am and got shot in the chest a few times and she survived. No affiliation to the dope game. I turned 42 two weeks ago. I seen some things as a jit.

    Nobody used the term “DMV” when I was growing up… Northern Va and Montgomery County wanted to be included while being on the outskirts because Metro took them into DC. DC was DC and people specifically said what neighborhood they were from. Different neighborhoods in DC had their own thing too. For example, Uptown and the Southside had different styles of fashion. The DMV term came from DC groupies from Northern Va and Montgomery County in Maryland.
