If I want to craft steel, which books should I focus on reading first? Right now I have been mining calx/granum and extracting in the crusher trying to level my stuff that way, while reading metallurgy/refining book. Should I be reading something different?

Well very first step would be Pig Iron lore Then Iron based alloy Then grain steel more And steal at the end. And I think you did well by reading metallurgy first, but also cancel it fast, cause all those others I mentioned are child of metallurgy, by the time you read all those metallurgy should be maxed out
