Couple of ways to use MMG teams you didn’t mention. 1. As Americans, bring three and pair them with your Riflemen. I had good success with this in my last game forcing my opponent to pick a target. If my opponent got the first shot off then I would just go down with my squad and fire back later with the supporting MMG and if I got to shoot first I would be stacking two pins to his one. 2. Soviet MMGs with a gun shield are pretty survivable. A Veteran Soviet MMG with a gun shield only takes a casualty on a 6, which makes them a very hard to kill 70 point unit. Snipers and mortars are still a major problem though.

That is if you are not flanked for that gun shield to work. I take MMG's and HMG's as a sort of flank protector where they are on one of the extreme ends and so pose a barrier if my opponent thinks of trying to flank with anything soft skin or infantry types.

I've always been people talk about these not being good for attacking etc etc, but that's tye point, they are a defensive support weapon designed to hold a choke point against an infantry push and they are good for doing that, take two of these and leave them on defense with an infantry support squad and works wonders. Yeah you risk mortor fire but that also means the opponent has to really focus them or get lucky with rolls and if they focus then they've wasted the mortor team they brought.

As a German player, I always take an inexperienced MMG team. 35 points for an order die and 5 shots isn't bad. If you place it in hard cover with a good view on where you expect enemies to come from or an objective, it has enough staying power and damage potential to easily make up their points, and the thing is, at 35 points, the enemy will very likely simply ignore it, if possible and if not, he is shooting a 35 point unit, instead of basically anything else that has more value. While it isn't an auto take, it's a great filler unit to squeeze in another cheap order die, and in my experience you usually get more out of it than you paid for

MMG team is the biggest must fix for BA3.0 . At least German LMG teams are good. Those tournament special rules that make them auto-pin or make them pin twice are both good, but change the math (auto-pin=inexperienced is amazing) "let's say [as Japanese] you filled up all your infantry slots" Worth noting Japan actually has at least one TS that lets them field *unlimited* Militia Squad. If not for the 1E Japan-in-China TS it would be a contender for the best TS.

yeah I've been trying them out as pin generators with my GIs It's tough to read good spots for them. Best spot so far has been on the flank. After three tournaments and three game wins, I'm thinking if I run my GIs again in a Juggernaut selector in a tourney with Bolt Action Alliance missions and Juggernaut objectives, the MMG teams will be at veteran, and the infantry will be at inexperienced in full sized mobs with just Garands.

i think inex MMGs are great. 35 points for 5 shots on 32" is some of the highest points/shot effiency you can get in the game imo. sure it has limitations being a fixed team, but just put it somewhere on ambush. honestly, if my opponent dedicates a 90+ pts squad or his HE unit to killing my 35pts throwaway, i consider that a win. my MMG does more work than my mortar in most games tbh... and AT rifles never do anything, ever. i think i ran an AT rifle team for 10 matches and it straight up failed to ever kill anything or even glance a vehicle. never touched them again.

Will you be (or have you already) looking at the HMG team? For as much as the MMG is in this grey area of sometimes useful but it has too many downsides, the HMG seems to be that turned up to 11. Sure you get +1 pen so it's gets the benefits of possibly pinning tanks, and having that bonus vrs infantry/support weapons, but being restricted to 3 shots, and costing a crazy 70pts, they are so far into that "too many downsides" category that nobody takes them. In fact, at my local group of 15+ players, I'm the only one who even has a HMG model.
