Lin2Waterfall Let's be perfectly honest: "Trophy Wife" is pretty much the sum total of her appearances in canon. It's a lot more interesting to have her as Fancy Pant's genuine lover, or bodyguard, or a thousand other interpretations, but it's easy to see why people think she's just foreleg candy.

One thing I noticed in the comic was the 'winged Fleur' that appeared when the changeling assumed her form during their fight; this is a nod to a glitch that appeared in the Gameloft MLP app where the model of Fleur was erroneously made an alicorn instead of a unicorn. When the mistake was addressed, it was jokingly commented that the winged Fleur had been a changeling impostor.

And I’ll just add that the author stated that Fleur is the Chizalis army changeling (look at the ears during the battle). So yes, I also accept the headcanon about the fact that she is a guard and bodyguard, but not this headcanon.

Yet a deeper consideration of the same conversation, plus what she said at the end, "Just as planed", seems to imply one of two things: either she's getting fights sent to her to help her keep up the blind faith angle while she spies for the queen, or she's part of another faction, which itself has implications.

It also ruins my thoughts that Blueblood is descended from Luna because that's literally the only way he could be related to Celestia and call her his aunt (outside of adoption)... because it'd be a hell of a lot easier than putting on twenty greats before the aunt.... although it'd sure be weird to call Luna your grandma.

I really love this comic and the idea of Fluer being the pony equivalent of the Black Widow (as in Marvels Black widow, so there's no misunderstanding). My best guess for why there's no female royal guards is mostly for the physical bulk, but I like the idea that females could serve as a form of black ops.

Is it true that many MLP fans don't like this character? For a supermodel with little to no information in the show, I instantly liked her in "Sweet and Elite" for the little screen time she spent cleaning off Fancy Pants and complementing Rarity; in other words, not being snobby.

weldonwin I think the Changeling meant running out of the restaurant. He’s implying she’s not in her place among the elite and that she’s looking for an excuse to escape it. She could have just got rid of the drink and alert the guards instead she put herself in danger. Fleur de Lys clearly doubt herself so obviously it hit close to home. But at the end she didn’t do it because she’s second guessing herself but because she loves Fancy pants and wanted to make sure he was safe, as well as the others civilian. Oh and I forgot, the Changeling recognized her because it’s the same one she punch at the start of the story.

Fleur actually speaks in one episode “Hmm, a pony with expensive tastes I see!” I love her voice, it’s funny! I even say it out loud in her voice when I think of it.

Almost thought this was an actual part of the comic before I saw the credits. Would've made sense for it to take place (spoiler alert)... After Chrysalis escaped from her prison in the comics.

No I do realize she fought a changeling that looked like her, but the way the changeling talks to her "no one liked you, that's why you ran" or "you always played after the rules, even if that put you in a disadvantage" or how she says "as planned" at the end with that facial expression. Fleur definitely is a changeling in that story, she is involved in the wedding to help Chryssi get in, I'm very sure of it.

I can't really understand Fluer and the changeling's conversation. Its quite confusing. "We got wings!" The changeling said. And, did they just want to control a princess? Nobody likes Fluer? That's why she ran? Quite confuses me.

This is why I love the comics! You're able to learn more about characters you rarely see on the show and, for me, it instantly dispels any ridiculous head cannons people tend to come up with solely based on stereotyping.

OH MY FREAKING GOD, LUNA IS ADORABLE IN THAT DRESS!!!!! 😱🥰😍

I don't really care at all about the subverted gender role, but I DO like that the comic subverted expectations on this particular character in a way that makes sense. Most fan interpretations of Fleur I've seen portray her relationship with Fancy Pants as a genuinely heartfelt, emotional thing, but also that the elite of Canterlot think of her as nothing but a trophy wife. There are a bunch of different given reasons why Fleur is with Fancy (ranging from 'i was a common pony who caught his eye' to 'Fleur is secretly a changeling and keeps this secret so she isn't burned at the stake') but the general assumption is of a love story. A romance. The comic uses that assumption against the reader and the characters and subverts it, making Fleur not only a genuinely caring pony but the protagonist of an action story/spy thriller. It's not only unexpected, but a great addition to the character. On top of that, the comic never outright states their relationship, so the love story angle the fans explored before is left open. Sure, the new backstory provides a different CONTEXT, but it doesn't cut out the idea entirely, which I freaking LOVE about this fan comic. It expands on Fleur's character without cutting out anything fans may have already decided about her. I also genuinely thought this dub was of an official comic, at first. It would not have surprised me at all.

Don't think snobby ponies are what they look like, they can be at their core, amazing. 🐎

I find Fler's back story to be quite surprising and engrossing. I absolutely love this elegant mare.

Impressive work on this comic. I too had the theory that, considering that the kingdom is RULED by a female diarchy and since the usual heroes are young women, there were probably some government agents somewhere doing business in Celestia's name. My theory was confirmed some time after this video's release, when it was revealed in the episode "Slice of Life" that Bon Bon was an anti-monster secret agent whose real name was Sweetie Drops. She hadn't told her close friend Lyra her secret, leading to a minor conflict between the two before they made up near the end of the episode.

Royal Wedding? Sounds like this is before A Canterlot Wedding. So that's what happened to Princess Luna during wedding party.

Notice how the changeling says "no one liked you. Cheshire Cat I never said she was Chrysalis! I said she was the inside source to help her accomplishher plan. And while we ddn't see her turn into a changeling it is STRONGLY suggested by the dialogue she has with the other changeling. The "playing according to the rules" or how the changeling knew about her past, the remark that she "ran away" it only makes sense if the two grew up together. It just is most logical to assume that she used to be a changeling sho didn't fit into their society so he ran away, changing into some rando Pony, assuming her identity and from then on living in disguise. The part that she helps chrysalis is more far fatched that this and I only can imagine that because of the specific remark on the royal wedding which would otherwise be of no importance, and because of the face Fleur makes in the last panel. So maybe she was exiled back then and now got a chance to get back to her home if she helped the queen who discovered her disguise and saw the potential of a spy with that much trust and in such a high position. Or she was blackmailed by the queen, that she would somehow reveal her secret if she didn't play along. It's called "Reading between the lines" people
