Great video. I've modified my process a bit over the past few years and found that if I use too strong of a magnet to separate them I wind up losing quite a few. I prefer to use a weak refrigerator type magnet instead of neodymium as even the good ones can often have nickel on the contact pads causing them to stick to the strong magnet. After I soak in HCl I like to roast them to make sure I drive off 100% of the chlorine as this prevents any silver chloride from forming and makes the filtering simpler. I find I get a better yield this way. But as far as a first attempt and experiment I like what you did here. Thanks.

Yeah, nickel chloride is pretty toxic. I'm thinking of a way to quickly reduce my wastes to oxides. It's why I'm thinking of the acetate-peroxide method. The solutions with the base metals could be dried and then roasted. Acetate will burn off, leaving metal oxides.

Not really sure about that, you would be adding allot of lead, tin, and nickel just to get a tiny bit of silver. Not worth it for me, mainly because of the nickel, which is not really a good thing to deal with in solution. I'm really one for trying to get all I can out of my scrap, but sometimes the risks just are not worth the payoff, if you know what I mean.

I don't remember what acids I was testing, with without going back and watching the video, but either way I have done these several times and several different ways, and the end has always been the same, a bit of silver & thats about it. Most of my tests have been on 100 gram batches so there my be a touch of PM's that I am not detecting. I have seen kilo batches yield a tiny bit of PGM's but not worth the effort as far as I am concerned. If they were like the "Old Ones" 100 grams should yield about 1.5 to 2.5 grams of palladium and at least 10 grams of silver, I get less then a gram of silver every time & no positives on any thing else. And lets not forget that the XRF comes up the same. I'm not saying there is nothing in them, but time, acids, and other processing materials is far greater then what your gonna get out of them. But hey, to each his own. Thanks for watching!!

I've seen that done both ways, I.E. crushed and not crushed with the results being about the same. From what I have read and seen, if you have the time, the ceramics will break down on their own, crushing just speeds up the process, and as I had plenty of time I just did um as they were to see what would happen. In the end crushing or not crushing didn't seem to matter in my experiment anyway, as there is nothing left in the beaker now except white powder, the solids, the mlcc's are gone?? This is something I have not read about or seen this, so I'm wondering, I would imagine like everyone else. What's Up LOL.

He goes after stuff I would have no idea how to do, rare earths and things like that I guess. To be honest I really don't know, he has never been one to talk to much about what he gets from things. For many years I saved my black sand from prospecting for him, not all from every where, he just wanted the stuff from vain mtn nc. I was very good at getting most all the gold out of my concentrates, so what he was getting from it I have again no idea, and he never said. I can say that as long as it was from that area he would pay $5 a pound for the black sand, which for the most part was more then the gold I was getting from it, so there was something in there that he wanted! Since that time I have just saved my "left overs" for him, and once or twice a year he shows up and picks it up. Again what he gets from it, he's not big on sharing. He is far smarter then I, because as far as I'm concerned what I give him is of no value, at least to me anyway. 🙄 well maybe not?? As far as danger goes, I'm pretty much at my limit, I don't care to go any further then I have, and I really don't even like the idea of working with PGM's and have no desire to go any further than that. Thanks for your question, hope this answered it.

I was taught refining by an old gold & silver smith years ago who learned how to do things on his own because he didn't like paying the fee's that refineries charged back in the day. It was actually quite costly back then. My knowledge is practical, trial and error, watching, and reading, applying many different methods I have learned over time to what I do now. I'm still learning, and hopefully I will continue to learn till the day I croak. That old man told me that "No Question Is Dumb" as long as the person asking truly wants to know the answer!

Yes I have, & yep its true. Problem is, finding the ones with the gold. Over time many manufactures have found ways not to use gold, but back in the day gold was used allot, as was silver and palladium, the latter two being far less expensive back then. Many many parts that contain no gold now days had gold in them back then, so it is possible to find gold where you would not expect too. for most its a hobby, its fun getting PM'S from junk sure moneys good if can get for free why not :) but unless you buying large quantities material ready to process.. , just collect ALL mmlcs .. stockpile, don't be in a hurry, its all about quantity.. and when got enough process go for it and be happy you made PM'S from what really was junk. if you motivation is to get rich quik or find lots PMs.. going be disappointed and after all effort involved be disappointed in long rung

@@prospectorpete I do my best to watch as much content as I can from other channels, but as you know its getting to the point of being impossible to watch everything, but I do watch, haven't been commenting much on peoples videos lately, but I do hit the like button and give as much view time as I can to as many as I can. I don't know how these channels with huge subscribers have time to do anything! I have a hard time just keeping up with my comments, making and editing videos, and just doing other necessary things, like eating and sleeping LOL. I truly never thought my channel would grow like it has, but I really do enjoy making the videos! There is allot of time spent alone in my little lab, doing the videos makes me feel as if you all are out there keeping me company. There is a cost for making them though, it adds allot of time to the process as well. I thought when I retired things were gonna slow down, LOL boy was I wrong, I've said it several times now, but I may get a job so I can take a break at work!! Thanks for commenting and watching!!!

I am sorry But there is NOTHING but a hint of silver in these "NEW" mlcc's. If you watch the entire series you will see that not only my test proves this, but as of right now I have also sent six (6) batches of 100 grams each to be tested VIA xrf analyzer and all have come back exactly the same. All show only 1% silver and no other precious metals. I will give you this, its possible that my test was flawed, but I strongly doubt that the xrf test was wrong six times. By all means, if you still want to take the time to collect them that is totally up to you.

lol, I have had many people say I did this or that wrong, or that they get so much of this or that out of them, but after "several" tests on them and even testing more then once with xrf, I have gotten nothing even close to worth the time of harvesting them, a bit of silver here or there, and no pallidum. What I really think is happening out there is people have a bit of non magnetics mixed in and that is where the PM's are coming from. I know there is a bit of silver in the magnetics, but I am really beginning to believe its from the solder. The last batch I tested yielded 1/2 gram of silver out of 100 grams of mlcc's. I know back in the day when silver was $3.65 and ounce, I would have gotten 6 to 10 grams out 100 grams, even the good ones were not worth going after back then LOL!! Take care & thanks for watching!!

I left you a message in Part II regarding your results (no spoiler here...) but you didn't mention the tantalum in your video or final results I don't think? I don't know a ton about it but if you have time here's a link to 2 yr old info on it... agmetalminer.com/2018/01/25/tantalum-lithium-markets-set-grow-over-next-four-years/ and a video regarding the tantalum capacitors that's way older (2015) kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaR51bFyfLmTj8Y.html

Thanks for the link, but I didn't mention tantalum because the video was about MLCC's and has nothing to do with tantalum. I think you are getting confused about what and which video you are watching and commenting on. I have never even made a video about tantalum, as I said in an earlier reply I think you need to watch both these videos again to see exactly what I said in them and what was going on in them.
