Very touching hearing Ron Guidry reminiscing about Yogi. Their friendship actually started way back in '70s when Yogi was a coach for then manager, Billy Martin. R.I.P. #8.

Bonnie this was wonderful. Thanks for sharing. We all know what a great man Ron is, not only as a baseball player, but his character. I know you are so proud to call him your husband. Sparky & I are so proud to call him a friend.

You and I both my man: I met Yogi while between flights at the Colorado airport at one of the gates just sitting there all by himself. It was such a surreal experience somebody that iconic alone sitting at an airport terminal looking just like Yogi Berra I think to myself this can’t be real.. but real it was I walked up put out my hand to introduce myself he return the shake didn’t have to say a word I was gushing about living the Yankees and how much a fan I am blah blah blah so I asked if I could sit for a minute which was more like 5-10 minutes. I know I’d asked where he was flying to which he said was going golfing somewhere I don’t recall. The larger portion of the conversation was about how much George Steinbrenner had ruined the Yankees and for me personally refused to watch and support my beloved Bronx Bombers, until which time he no longer owned/operated the team to which Yogi replied he was never going back as long as he was there. Then I remember buying a magazine just so I could tear enough blank space of a page for him to sign which graciously he did. Just about a great a moment as life gets 5-10 minutes just he and I sitting together at an airport terminal completely uninterrupted.

Guidry a class act from start to finish. Yogi probably the oddest conundrum in baseball history with his play given his body type.

I miss my dad. He was a small cute guy like Yogi. I basically stopped living in my home the last 5 years of his life to take care of him. He moved around slowly like Yogi and needed me everywhere. Sometimes I'd get frustrated and wonder why I was always the one picked to do everything. Dad was partner in a large company so he wanted to go there every day during the week, just like Yogi wanted to go. Sometimes (not too often) I'd get a bit pissed I didn't have a lot of freedom but I'd get over it quickly, realizing time was running out for my dad. He passed away 11 years ago. I've never been the same since. I now know an awful lot about Ron Guidry. He was great to watch as a pitcher but far more than just that.

This makes me emotional. I've been watching baseball since 1977. Back then, Yogi was a coach. He was still spry, still hitting fungos to outfielders. He wasn't so far removed from Yogi the baseball player. There's just some people you don't think will ever get old. People you think will always be there. People like Yogi & Whitey Ford. But Yogi & Whitey are getting old, & it's apparent. The scooter is gone, so is Mickey. Yogi & Whitey are the two links to the most golden of Yankee eras.

ok.. the first part made partial sense. as for the book I loved it. I felt there were a lot of heartfelt interaction between the two. the rest of your comment shows tremendous disrespect to a person that is one of the most kindest and well loved sports figures in history. I love Yogi he reminds me of my own grandpa.

Yeah. I think Mickey Mantle said the same thing. You're right. Just reaching that age and having all your faculties is a blessing.
