To be fair, for most KZreadrs, a raging boner is like 5 inches, this fire was at least twice that size.

I was at a game Mets game in 2008. Citi Field is just about structurally done... I get out of class (actually got permission from a professor to cut out early), race out to Shea to meet up with my grandpa who was meeting me at our seats. Plop down in my seat and they announce the game is delayed... Turns out the heavy construction equipment had punched a hole in Shea’s water main. There was zero water above the loge and almost no pressure on the field level. Ended up delaying the game about half an hour because the grounds crew couldn’t finish preparing the diamond. And to add insult to injury... It was a “Bad Ollie Day”

Back in 2001 there was an explosion in the light bank at now torn down San Diego Stadium causing the Padres game to be suspended. That qualifies as a strangest delay/suspension.

MLB posted a video about that delay, there were fire alarms going off under the scoreboard. Interestingly enough, the camera shot of outfield only picked up the strobes once, probably because of its position. Other camera angles showed the strobes going off, probably 5 or 6 of them

1:29 actually scared me.

Not technically a delay, but what about the San Francisco earthquake that stopped game 3 of the 1989 World Series?

@@SkullkraneEntertainment You're right that them showing it on tv would encourage it and that's probably a bad idea, but it's just a short delay and it's pretty entertaining for fans to see someone get tackled or tazed. And then there's that one time at a soccer game where the cops started beating the guy up and the fans rushed the field and fucked up the cops. It's fun stuff, imo, but you can usually only see it when a spectator records it.

It was a clear air strike. Positive lightning is more rare than negative and much more powerful and deadly. Probably sounded like a fucking bomb went off, hence the reaction.

It's not just the players though. If the fields get too wet from the rain players running on it will end up ruining it. It takes too long for grass to regrow and. No one wants the outfield to just have mud patches everywhere. If it's too dark the umpires can't see the ball, if they can't see the ball they can't make the right call. Fans get upset as it is. Imagine how upset they would be if their team lost an important game because the umpire couldn't see the ball. Not to mention it's hard to get out of the way of a 98 mph fastball if it's dark. Sure we played outside when it was pitch black as kids, but we also couldn't throw 98 mph as a kid.

A 98mph pitch that cannot be seen clearly is a LIFE-THREATENING situation. Playing on mud is how careers get ruined. (The Red Sox lost a pitcher for the season-and it probably derailed his career-due to a wet mound.)
